Narration: ‘Although none of these answers are completely correct, they may be true. Books and stories are literature, and students read because they are told to, all facts. But what is literature and why do we study it?

Literature is a term used to describe written or spoken material. Broadly speaking, "literature" is used to describe anything from creative writing to more technical or scientific works, but the term is most commonly used to refer to works of the creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction.

Narrator: How will the prosperity of our generations ever learn to be literate if there were no classes instructing the proper use of our language? Language in general is a mystery as to how it was derived from simple concepts such as primitive grunts made by the earliest of humans. This infinite puzzle of usage, vocabulary, and vocalization is what separates man from the beasts that we so often distance ourselves from in our world.

Narration: Literature is an important tool that enables us to record history for future generations, communicate with each other, and enhance the learning process. Now that we know what literature is, we can now discover why we study it.

Narration: Literature is everywhere it is all around us. In the media, daily life, and in school. Understanding, using, interpreting literature will have lasting impressions on students.
