e Naperville Century Walk 2017 he sidewalks of downtown Naperville provide a walking tour of the city’s best. Murals, mosaics and sculptures tell the story of Naperville’s past. Since 1996 the Century Walk art project has added 48 locations of public art throughout the community, using paint, ceramics, bronze, clay and glass to depict some of the city’s most important people, places and events. “It’s art with a story,” says Century Walk Founder Brand Bobosky, a local lawyer.

“Dick Tracy,”9-foot tall bronze sculpture of Dick Tracy. Dick Locher,who succeeded Chester Gould in drawing the DickTracy comic strip and became a Pulitzer-prize winningeditorial cartoonist at the Chicago Tribune, has beena Naperville resident for almost half a century. “Spirit of the Y,”bronze sculpture celebrating 100 years of the YMCA.Artist Jane DeDecker

“KidsMatter Way - Finding Murals,”a group of “wayfinding” murals, located in theparking garage at the comer of Main and Van BurenSt., will ultimately feature the artwork of high schoolstudents from all five Naperville High Schools. ArtistTimm Etters and students from District 203 and 204High Schools.

“Parade of the Century,”mural shows a parade across time beginning in 1900and continuing through the end of the 20th century.Artist Adela Vystejnova.

“Whale of a School,”the concrete whale, with a head almost nine feet high and a tail raisedfive feet in the air, is a testament to Highlands Elementary slogan, “Awhale of a school.” The whale is a symbol of school pride and connectionbetween students of past, present and future. Artist Victoria Fuller.

“Faith, Hope & Charity,”the mural includes the names of 12 famous American masons on oneside, and 12 well-known Naperville masons on the other side including cityfounder Joe Naper. An 18” border painted to simulate wood and ropeshows how masons are tied together around the world. Artist MarianneLisson Kuhn.
