What is NAIDOC WEEK?NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of Indigenous Australians. We encourage all Australians to participate in the celebrations and activities that take place across the nation during NAIDOC Week.

A word from the Wagga Wagga NAIDOC CommitteeThis year the national NAIDOC theme is ‘We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect & Celebrate’. In honour of this, the community are invited to take part in celebrating the wonderfully vibrant, culturally rich and colourful Aboriginal culture. Our committee, along with various other local service providers, have created events that will take you on a journey, combining traditional knowledge with modern elements.

NAIDOC Week 2015 offers an event for everyone, from learning to dance at the hip hop classes to dancing up a storm at the NAIDOC Masquerade Ball. Community can enjoy a cultural tour of our city or join us for the closing ceremony by the Wollundry Lagoon. We look forward to sharing our wonderful culture with you!
