This year’s show has shaped up to be one of the best in the show’s history with almost the whole of the auto industry companies showcasing their products in equally spacious and well- designed arenas. The show was inaugurated by the newly appointed President of NADA, Mr. Shekhar Golchha along with the Finance Minister of Nepal Hon. Mr. Shanker Prasad Koirala who appreciated the initiative of the association to uplift the overall automobile sector by organizing such events; he ensured that the government would create a better environment for the automobile industry to grow further. Last year’s five day event saw a visitor footfall of nearly 50,000 people and transactions worth in excess of Rs.700 million was stated to be recorded. Organizers billed it as the most successful in terms of volume of transaction and number of visitors. This year too, the numbers are expected to be similar if not better. Nevertheless, NADA and GEMS pulled off a well- organized event and their continuous efforts to revive the auto industry from the market slump deserves a proper round of applause. Tickets have been priced at Rs.150 for general visitors and Rs.100 for student. The 9th edition of the NADA Auto Show, which runs from 11-15 September, is presented by the Nepal Automobile Dealers’ Association, managed by GEMS and sponsored by Michelin, Shikhar Insurance and Servo Lubricants. This year, the theme of the event is “Day out for the Family”. So, they have also focused on family friendly recreational activities, foods exclusively from Nanglo, friendly mascots, clean bathrooms and other attractions.

The NADA Auto Show is the only successfully running Auto Show in the country featuring nearly 100 vehicles from about 25 automobile companies around the world and additional other auto related companies this year. This year’s show has shaped up to be one of the best in the show’s history with almost the whole of the auto industry companies showcasing their products in equally spacious and well-designed arenas.

The show was inaugurated by the newly appointed

President of NADA, Mr. Shekhar Golchha along with the Finance Minister of Nepal Hon. Mr. Shanker Prasad Koirala who appreciated the initiative of the association to uplift the overall automobile sector by organizing such events; he ensured that the government would create a better environment for the automobile industry to grow further.

Last year’s five day event saw a visitor footfall of nearly 50,000 people and transactions worth in excess of Rs.700 million was stated to be recorded. Organizers billed it as the most successful in terms of volume of transaction and number of visitors. This year too, the numbers are expected to be similar if not better.

Keeping in mind the festive Dashain season ahead, most of the companies has also announced festive offers through which customers buying cars or bikes could get attractive cash discounts and gifts through lucky draw or scratch coupon. Although

TATA:Tata’s stall was very popular amongst the visitors. Everyone had their sight not only glued to their products, but they had opened up an innovative café alongside their stall as well. The Storme Café had many enthusiastic visitors storming into the outlet for a refreshing drink or snacks. Alongside the café was the Safari Storme, Vista D90 and Manza in their exhibit area. They also had an outdoor pavilion for their commercial vehicles Tata Xenon and Tata Ace.

The CBR 250R was also launched in new exciting colors and two vintage Honda motorcycles were displayed alongside.

DUCATI:Ducati had one of the smallest stalls in the expo. But lots of people could still be seen hovering around their exhibit area with the Diavel, Hypermotard 821 and 1198 EVO. They definitely stole the show even with the minimum designed pavilion.

BAJAJ:Bajaj only had their premium sporty motorcycles on display. No doubt, the Pulsar 220 and Pulsar 200NS were the show stealers. Interestingly, there was also a huge air blown mascot of Bajaj fluttering beside the pavilion.

ROJ AUTO:Roj Auto stall had a variety of after market accessories on display.

VOLKSWAGEN:Hero had their entire line-up present at the NADA Auto Show. The German carmaker launched the powerful VW Cross Polo GT-TSI and the VW Cross Polo at the NADA Auto Expo accompanied with their new Touareg, Tiguan, Passat, Vento and Polo.

FORD:Ford had the Ranger, Figo, Focus and Fiesta joining the all new-compact SUV, Ford EcoSport at their exhibition arena.

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW LAUNCHES AT THE NADA AUTO SHOW 2013

Syakar Trading Company, the authorised distributors of Honda motorcycles in Nepal had launched the new Activa-i scooter at the NADA Auto Show 2013. The new Activa-i is powered by the same 109.2 cc four stroke engine air cooled engine that the bigger Activa model comes with and makes 8 bhp of power with a torque output of 8.74 nm. The engine comes with the Honda Eco Technology to combine improved combustion, reduced friction and optimized transmission leading to a mileage of 60kmpl. Similarly, other features include an underseat storage capacity of 18 litres, a higher ground clearance of 165mm tubeless tyres, maintenance free battery and viscous air filter. Activa-i comes in 4 colours - beige metallic, pearl sunbeam white, alpha red metallic and purple metallic. It has been priced at NRs.1,50,900/-.

Syakar Trading Company also rolled out the refreshed 2013 Honda CBR250R. The refreshed CBR comes in the iconic limited edition Repsol racing livery. The Repsol edition is offered in ABS trim only. The Repsol edition also gets orange alloys. Honda has also updated other colours of the CBR250R, discontinuing the old colours in the process. The new colours are Sports Red, Sports Black and Pearl Sunbeam White. The bike definitely looks better than before. However, the updates are only just cosmetic. The engine is the same 25 bhp DOHC 249cc single cylinder unit. Other standout features on the new CBR250R’s include blacked-out alloys and exhaust heat shield. It has been priced at NRs.5,90,000/-.

Laxmi Intercontinental, the sole authorized distributors of Hyundai vehicles in Nepal, has launched the all-new Hyundai Santa-Fe at the NADA Auto Show. The 2013 Santa-Fe comes with a 2.2 LVGT, third generation common rail diesel engine which produces a maximum power of 197 bhp. The gearbox is mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The exterior features the new ‘Storm Edge’ design which meets Hyundai’s fluidic design language. The robust looking Santa-Fe gets a unique triple-bar-type grille, 17 and 18 inch alloy wheels, flush dual exhaust tips and a panoramic sunroof. Likewise, the interiors have been completely revamped with three row 7-seater seating arrangement. Hyundai also offers an all-new Driver Selectable Steering Mode, with three operating modes – Comfort, Normal and Sport. The new Santa-Fe is priced at NRs. 1,20,96,000/-.

Continental Associates Pvt. Ltd, the sole authorized distributors for KIA vehicles in Nepal, has launched the all-new Kia Picanto at the NADA Auto Show 2013. The Kia Picanto gets distinctive styling and impressive list of features. It gets a 1.2 litre MPI, inline 4-cylinders engine that makes 87 bhp of power. The engine is mated either to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is packed with features like electric security indicator, safety sunroof, thumb rests, electronic folding outside mirrors with turn indicators, front dual airbags, ABS, under-seat storage and a big luggage space.

Hansraj Hulaschand & Co. Pvt Ltd, the sole authorized distributors of KTM motorcycles in Nepal, has launched the eagerly-awaited KTM Duke 390. The Duke 390 is the second motorcycle to be sold in Kathmandu after the popular Duke 200. The new KTM gets a powerful 373.2 CC single cylinders, 4-stroke, fuel-injected, liquid cooled engine which is capable of producing 43.5 bhp of power at 9000 RPM and a peak torque of 35 Nm at 7000 RPM. . The gearbox is a six-speed transmission that shifts in a one-down five-up pattern. According to the company, the motorcycle can do a 0-100 kmph under 6 seconds and a top speed of over 160kmph. Braking is done via an ABS enabled 300mm single disc brake in front and a 230mm rear unit. The new motorcycle will cost NRs.5, 50,000/-.

VW CROSS POLOConstant Business Group Pvt. Ltd, the sole authorized distributors for SsangYong vehicles in Nepal, has launched the all-new Actyon sports at the NADA Auto Show 2013. The new Actyon Sports has one of the most powerful engines in its class. The new Actyon sport is powered by a 2.0 litre, e-XDi active diesel engine that makes 155 bhp of power and 360 NM of torque. The exterior gets a mesh radiator grille and trapezoidal bumper, stylish black headlight bezels, and transparent rear lamps. The interior gets a black and metallic treatment along with an LED illuminated instrument cluster. Similarly, other features include heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, Eco-cruise control, a sliding sunroof and more. It is priced at NRs. 48,75,000/-. The company will also be launching the all-new SsangYong Rexton W at Nrs. 78,75,000/-.

Import USA, the sole authorized distributors for UM motorcycles in Nepal, has launched the Xtreet 200 and Xtreet 230 motorcycles. The Xtreet is a brand new motorcycle with raw attitude,

electrifying design and aggressive new technology. The Xtreet 200 is a single cylinder, 196cc, 4 stroke, air cooled engine which makes 16.1 bhp of power and 13.96 nm of torque. Likewise, the Xtreet 230 features a single-cylinder, 223cc, 4 stroke, air cooled engine which makes 18 bhp of power and 15.55 nm of torque. Both these bikes feature a fully integrated system of LEDs gracing the contours of the chassis, a sleek under-seat exhaust system and a Monoshock Advance System (MAS). Similarly, they also feature digital speedometer, flashing turn signals, headlamps, neutral light and double disc-brake system. The Xtreet200 is priced at Rs 2, 75,000 while the Xtreet 230 is priced at Rs 2, 85,000.

Pooja International also launched the much awaited Polo 1.2 GT TSI. Priced at NRs. 36,95,000/- this new car is the most technologically advanced hatchback in this segment. It is packed with the company’s award-winning 1.2-litre TSI (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) motor that makes 105 bhp of power and 170 nm of torque coupled with a 7-speed twin clutch transmission. The exterior is equipped with new alloy wheels, halogen headlamps with black finish and “GT” front chrome grille. Similarly, the interior gets superior fabric upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, aluminium pedal cluster and chrome interior trims among others. The GT TSI gets all the standard Highline variant kits which includes a two DIN audio system with Bluetooth telephone connectivity, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, etc. Active safety equipment on the Polo GT TSI includes front airbags, ABS, ESP and pinch guard safety

Import USA also launched the Renegade Commando Cruiser. The Renegade Commando looks inspired from vintage American cruisers. It is powered by a single-cylinder, 223cc, 4 stroke, air cooled engine which makes 18 bhp of power and 15.5 Nm of torque. The gearbox is mated to a 5-speed transmission. It is priced at NRs.3, 25,000/-.

Pooja International Pvt. Ltd, launched the new Volkswagen Cross Polo at the NADA Auto show. The new Cross Polo will be available with a 1.2 litre diesel engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. It features a 1.2-litre, TDI, 3-cylinder, 1198c diesel engine which produces 75 bhp of power and 180 Nm of torque. The exterior gets new ‘cross’ bumpers , front and rear, with silver accents, silver roof rails and galvanized body. The interior gets high quality scratch resistant plastic interiors, chrome interior trims, leather wrapped steering wheel, gearshift knob and handbrake lever handle. Safety features include ABS, dual-front airbags and electronic engine immobiliser with floating code etc. Other convenience features include ‘Climatronic’ automatic air conditioning, multi-function steering wheel, two din music system with USB, Aux, SD Card Slot and 4 Speakers, Bluetooth, multi-function display and rear parking sensors. It is priced at NRs. 37, 45,000/-.

AUTO CHINAThe Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, also known as Auto China, is a biennial international automobile show held in Beijing around April since 1990. Auto
