    1. Night of Rage II - Night of Mayhem,Te second annual Night o Rage jams an astounding amount o rough shod, lo-, cutting-edge punk

    and noise acts into its impressive line up.     Presents showcase.     4. KVRX Day Shows & KVRXplosionWhen it comes to top notch student run media in town, the stellar U run radio station KVRX only

    comes second to Accent. Friday and Saturday nds the station setting up day shows with sets by Javelin,Golden riangle, and eenage Cool Kids. Tursday night things are liable to get wilder than an F-bomb onthe airwaves when KVRX reclaims the old Obama HQ or their legendary KVRXplosion.

    5. Red Gorilla FestSince 2007, this estival has expanded to a multi-venue display o up-and-comingindependent music. Former alumni that have perormed in RedGorilla Fest include

    Cage the Elephant, Dead Conederate and Family Force 5. Centrally located ondowntown 6th Street, ans can enjoy bands and musicians rom a variety ogenres such as acoustic, blues, hip hop and punk. March 17-21, Venues BA

    6. FUSXSWWith the abundance o cliched indie rock scheduled during SXSW, Giant

    Steps Productions provides a much needed relie with a week o loud, inyour ace rock bands. Located in the small connes o Plush Bar, the lack ostages gives a more intimate eeling as the ans are right there rocking with theperorming bands.

    7. The Versatile Cache: Volume 2 Release Partyo celebrate the second volume o their compilation, Versatile Syndicate

    is throwing a day long showcase at Hole in the Wall. Bands eatured on the

    8. Octopus Projects Hexadecagon ShowTe Octopus Project are bringing another visual experience to the masses during SXSW.

    Te band is joining orces with visual artist Wiley Wiggins, who some may remember asthe upcoming reshman in Dazed and Conused. Te audience will be surrounded by eightspeakers set up in a circle as eight images will project over their heads.

    checking in. When Im not clocking campusnews or the Accent, I also moonlight as aproessional music writer at Austin Vida. Thisis my sixth SXSW, so Ive got the experience,the knowledge, and the stamina required totackle a estival o this magnitude. While allyou amateurs are sufering rom heat strokeand blown ear drums, Im going to be rontand center, taking video and photos o thehot acts descending on Austins downtown.From of the map parties to wild and raw dayshows, Ill be proving that, here at the Accent,we dont need no stinking badges (though Iwill have a ull music badge).

    1. SUNGLASSES - Wear them during the day to avoid squinting.ake them o at night to avoid looking l ike Cory Hart.

    2. WAER AND SNACKS - Pack a couple o Powerbars anda bottle o water to keep your energy up and avoid the dreadedDorritos or dinner phenomenon.

    3. SUNSCREEN - Most o the ree events scheduled when thesun is blazing, a little SPF protection is always essential or avoidingthat lobster red rookie look.

    4. EARPLUGS - You can buy some cheap oam ones at HomeDepot, but real music aconados spring or something that wontmake every band sound like a dull, mufed mess.

    5. BACKPACK - Because cargo pants are or losers.

    6. PHONE CHARGER - wittering, talking, texting. t hey alldrain battery lie quick. Dont be le without a clue when yourphone dies and your charger is back home.

    7. UMBRELLA - Dont bring an umbrella. I itrains, you get wet. Its part o the experience.

    8. BUS PASS - What? You thought you were goingto nd parking downtown?

    9. CASH - Whether you encounter a cash-only ood vendor oryoure trying to grease some wheels in order to get into a sold outshow, it always helps to have cash on hand.
