WSSA President’s Messageby Bill Fisher
Hello, and welcome to the 2018 WSSA State Championships. I hope everyone is in good health and shooting well. The Washington State Skeet Championships this year are being held at the Lynden Shotgun Club, August 10, 11, and 12. I hope you all are planning to attend, even if you only shoot 1 gun or all 4 guns.
This year is an election year so at the General Membership Meeting Friday night we will be having
election for the position President, Vice President and Secretary Treasurer. Phil Strelau has taken over for Barbara Clark as Secretary Treasurer and is willing to do the job for the next term. There has been interest in the other two positions, but if you are interested or know of someone interested in one of the two other positions let me know. Please plan on attending the meeting as there is other business to discuss as well. There will be a fun jackpot shoot-off and food after the meeting.
Saturday night after shooting we will be having the awards banquet at the club, catered by a local restaurant. During the awards banquet Larry Clark a longtime member will be inducted into the Washington Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame.
So, mark your calendar for the weekend of August 10th-12th and have a great time shooting, and catching up with new and old friends alike.
WSSA President
Bill Fisher

Washington Skeet Shooting Association History
Skeet shooting in Washington state can be traced back into the 1920's when a picture dated 1927 was published showing shooting skeet at a club in the Bremerton area. Skeet became a recognized sport in 1926. Prior to that time, all shotgun clubs were trap clubs.
The first world skeet championships were held in 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. 1935 was also the first year Washington skeet championships were held in Tacoma. Since 1935 the state shoot has also been held at Bremerton, Wenatchee, Fort Lewis, Custer (later relocated to Lynden), Seattle, Spokane, and Waterville. There were no state championships during WWII years of 1943-47.
The Washington Skeet Shooting Association (WSSA) as we know it today was formally formed in December 1967. The first state shoot under the WSSA banner was held in 1969 at the Spokane Gun Club. This explains the discrepancy you will see indicating this is the 79th Skeet Championship or the WSSA's 50th state shoot (under the WSSA banner).
Today clubs active in registered skeet shooting in Washington include: Spokane, Bremerton, McChord, Lynden and Seattle. In 2018 these clubs will hold 22 registered shoots and 3 clubs are providing monthly registered targets

Welcome to the Lynden Shotgun Club!
On behalf of the members of the Lynden Shotgun Club and the community of Lynden we look forward to hosting the 79th anniversary of the Washington State Skeet Shooting championship. We appreciate the opportunity to serve as the venue for this historic event. We welcome all competitors, spouses, family, and friends who will be part of this celebration. Many of you have shot at our club in the past know what a beautiful part of the State we are located in. For those of you who haven’t been here before, we know that you will feel at home in the area immediately.
The Club has excellent facilities for skeet, trap and five-stand and it draws shooters from a broad area around the community including shooters from across the border in Canada. We are particularly focused on our youth programs which include trap shooting with Future Farmers of America trap shooters, Scholastic Clay Target Program youth shooting skeet, trap and five-stand plus we do hunter training at the site as well. We will be in the middle of a major construction program when you arrive as we look forward to a new clubhouse facility. We believe that you will compete in a great shooting environment made all the more enjoyable by the vibrancy and friendliness of our members and the community of Lynden. We look forward to seeing you all in July.
Ken Higginbotham
President, Lynden Shotgun Club

Cash Payouts
Cash payouts will be paid by check sent to the address on your entry form. All persons winning $600 or more are required to complete an IRS Form W-9 providing your SSN or TIN.
"Places to Pay" for all events and cash awards are established based on the number of entrants as follows: 1-4 entries per class pay 1 place, 5-8 entries pay 2 places, and 9 or more entries pay 3 places.
Fixed Cash Payouts for Events 3 through 6 are Ch $100; Ch R/U $75; Class First $65; Class Second $40 and Class Third $15. HOA pays: Ch, $125; Ch R/U $100; Cl 1st $85; 2nd $65; 3rd $40. NOTE: Cash Payouts for Class 2nd and 3rd are paid only if the number of entrants in that class establishes those places; i.e., a class with only 4 or less entrants pays only Class First ($65)
AAA Class is not offered and AAA will compete in AA class per NSSA Rule V-C-3.
Events 1 and 2 $9 of each entry is returned as follows: $2 to Ch; $1 to Ch R/U; $6 back to class*
High All Around: Entire entry fee ($10) is returned as follows: $2 to Ch; $1 to Ch R/U; $7 to class*
