What the Parish Council has been trying to achieveThe Neighbourhood Plan contains a number of policies to helpdetermine the extent and type of development within theNeighbourhood Plan area until 2030. The referendum provides theopportunity for you as a resident to decide by voting whether youwould like for the plan to be adopted.
Of those that vote, a majority of 50% + 1 is required for the plan to beadopted as a planning document. If a majority is not achieved theNeighbourhood Plan will not be used to help determine planningapplications in the Neighbourhood Area.
What it will meanThe Neighbourhood Plan has been developed by the Parish Counciland Neighbourhood Plan Group through an extensive period ofconsultation and independent examination. Residents through areferendum now have the option to support or reject the plan. Ifapproved by a majority of the electorate of Martlesham enlisted tovote, the Plan becomes part of the legal framework for determiningplanning applications in our NP area.
Purpose of the Neighbourhood PlanThe purpose of the Neighbourhood Plan is ultimately to guidedevelopment within the parish and provide guidance to anyinterested parties wishing to submit planning applications fordevelopment within the designated Neighbourhood Plan Area. It isalso expected to help implement the strategic policies in the SuffolkCoastal District Local Plan Core Strategy adopted in 2013 and willreplace some of the ‘saved’ policies from the earlier Suffolk CoastalLocal Plan within the Martlesham Neighbourhood Plan area.
Area covered by the Neighbourhood PlanThe Neighbourhood Plan area covers the whole of Martleshamparish excluding Martlesham North ward and the land covered by the Adastral Park development. A map of the plan area is availableat www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/assets/Planning/Neighbourhood-Planning/Designated-Neighbourhood-Areas/Martlesham/Decision-notice.pdf
