Myth and Landscape in Ancient Greece Mainland & Islands, Greece | Program Type: UA Faculty-led | Term: Summer | Minimum GPA: 2.5
“Myth, Ritual and Landscape“ is the special focus of the 2015 summer Study
Abroad program in Greece. CLAS 302 examines Ancient Greek myths, especially
as reflected ritually, and their close relationship to the land. The direct experi-
ence of studying Athena in Athens, Zeus at Olympia, etc. provides students with
unique insights into the meaning of the myths and the ancient Greeks’ beliefs in
the gods.
We will visit icons of Greek art and architecture while the readings illuminate the
significance of the sites and the material artifacts. Students will gain unique ex-
periences and critical skills grounded in the landscape and environment in which
they flourished.
