National Workshop on “ Segregation at all levels”

At the workshop on waste segregation at all levels organized by the Mysuru City Corporation

(MCC) held at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) mysuru on 26/5/2016 representatives of 24

cites were given a detailed presentation and a demo on how the heritage city practices scientific solid

waste disposal.

The representatives, 55 of them, found at ease to clarify their doubts on various things like

GPS fitted trucks carrying garbage, waste segregation, and zero waste management. Deputy

Commissioner C. Shikha IAS who inaugurated the event, did not forget to acknowledge the

contributions of the erstwhile Mysuru kingdom to get the cleanest city tag.

Deputy commissioner C. Shika IAS said Maharajas had evolved a well planned city and it was

a challenge to preserve the same now. She said the co-operation of civic authority, various

organizations and the public came handy and commended the pourakarmikas for doing a good job.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner, Dr. C G Betasurmath said the Ministry of Urban

Development had directed to hold such workshops in 8 cities with Mysuru being one among them. He

opined that the workshop would be very beneficial to the participating cities.

Earlier the participants went through the waste segregation at source in ward 32 followed by a

visit to the Zero Waste Management Plant in Kumbarakoppalu.

As a part of thematic cleanliness drive

under Swachh Bharat Mission. Factors

premises cleaning activity was carried

out from 1st -15th May 2016 (On account

of International Labour day) . According

to suggested theme: Jockey factory,

Rollon Factory, Mysuru flour mill factory

premises were cleaned. Cleaning and

inspection of sanitary facilities for

workers were carried out in Ward No.11,

Zone-2 limits, using workers and MCC

officials.

Theme based drives are being organized

from April 2016 to March 2017, as per

MoUD directions, As a part of this

campaign cleanliness of government

offices fortnight is being held from 16-05-

2015 to 31-05-2016. A cleanliness drive

was organized on 24-05-2016 at Cauvery

Neeravari nigam office. Health officer Dr.

Nagaraj, Assistant Commissioner

Sri.Nagaraj Nayak , Environment Engineer

Smt. Tejaswini and federation

representative Sri Arun Kumar and the

cleanliness personnel participated in the

drive. The office and its premises were

cleaned giving it a spic and span look.

As per the notification of the Ministry of

Environment Zoology and Forests, govt.

of India dated on 11-03-2016. All plastic

carry bags, plastic tumblers, plastic

plates, plastic flags, cling films,

thermocole and others are banned. Drives

were conducted in zone-3 area Udayaravi

Road, Nrupathunga Road and

Panchamanthra Road. Banned materials

were confiscated and shopkeepers were

fined. Health officer Ramachandra,

Development officer Govindappa and

Environment Engineer Girijamma

participated in the drive.

many among shopkeepers and public, raids

are conducted in shopping molls,

showroom and other commercial

As a part of Theme based drive under

Swachh Bharat mission, cleanliness drive

and awareness campaign was held at

ward 56 Chescom office and Provident

fund office. A pledge was administered

to the officers and staff of the above

offices. The office premises and

surrounding areas were cleaned. This

drive was an initiative under theme based

fortnight to clean government offices.

The champions of change, our

pourakarmikas participated in theme based

drive under Swachh Bharat mission and

cleaned the surroundings of the City

Central Library. Awareness has been

created among the pourakarmikas not to

take un segregated waste during door to

door collection of garbage. They follow the

Principle of Refuse and insist the Citizen to

segregate the waste. Mysuru City

Corporation has been following 4-R’s

Principle, viz, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and

Recycle.

Kuvempunagar, Mysuru. The surroundings

of the Chescom were cleaned. These

thematic drives have created awareness

among the government officials to keep

Canada Team Visit Mysuru

A delegation from Canada visited

Mysore’s Dalvoy lake, Sewage

treatment plants and Biogas

generation centre and inspected the

Green Initiative by MCC:

MCC launched its first cloth bags

sewing unit at JP Nagar following a

ban on plastic carry bags.

Launching the centre, Mayor B.C

Bhyrappa said that more than 1500

women have been provided with

sewing machines under 24.10%

welfare programme to encourage

women to produce cloth bags. This

centre would empower women in

involving in an income generating

activity, Dr. C.G. Betsurmat said that

there was a good response from the

public to this green initiative. The

women can earn Rs. 500 by Stitching

250 bags per day.
