Nick Foster has stormed to victory in the City of Darwin Cup during a watershed weekend for Mygale at Hidden Valley Raceway.

Foster, driving the Mygale Australia/Team BRM Mygale M11, took pole position, won two races and finished the other in second to dominate Australian F3s marquee event.

Foster’s win gave Mygale its first ever Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship victories and has moved him to second in the championship standings, just nine points shy of series leader Tim Macrow.

“We’re rapt,” said Mygale’s Greg Woodrow.

“Pole position, two race wins and a lap record. It doesn’t get much better than that!”

After being unlucky in Race One on Saturday where he led only to be punted at a restart after a safety car period Foster dominated on Sunday, taking his maiden race victory in the morning’s second race before cruising to victory in the feature race.

Foster won by six seconds, led every in a crushing display that took his F3 win tally from zero to two within the space of five hours.

The Queenslander, already successful in both Formula Ford and Carrera Cup competition, says championship calculations have instantly emerged following his success this weekend.“I hadn’t even though about it before today, to be honest,” Foster said.

“To be second in points behind Tim going into the next round is exciting for all of us and now we have to keep scoring points and getting trophies.

“We’ve known the car speed has always been there but this weekend we put it all together. It’s a credit to Mygale and to Team BRM for all their hard work getting the car up to speed.

“The car is very capable and today it was brilliant.”

Earlier on Sunday, Foster recorded his first Formula 3 victory but also the first race-win for a Mygale chassis in the championship. The result was the first time in 237 points-paying F3 races in Australia that a car built by someone other than Dallara had won a race.

The Erebus Academy Mygale M11 of series debutant Andre Heimgartner also showed great pace. After being spun in Race One on Saturday the young Kiwi finished in seventh in Race Two before taking an impressive fifth place finish in the feature race.

Jones jumps to 21 point lead inAus Formula Ford titleCAMS Rising Stars/Minda Motorsport Mygale driver Macauley Jones has continued his red-hot form by scoring pole position and taking two of the three available race victories to grab the series lead in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

Jones led local hope Liam Sager home in a CAMS Rising Stars 1-2 in two of the three races and the overall round result this weekend, Sager taking out a slippery second race on Sunday morning after light rain made conditions challenging and setup a gamble.

Still, when he wasn’t wining Jones was on the podium, continuing a sparkling run of form at Queensland Formula Ford rounds for the 18-year-old Albury driver this year.

Jones has now won five of the past six races, the last two rounds overall and has only finished outside the top three on two occasions this year.

Sager finished second overall this weekend and pushed his CAMS Rising Star / Minda Motorsport Mygale teammate hard all weekend.

He finished second in races one and three – the third race a thrilling slipstreaming

battle between the pair for the lead that began on lap one and ended when the flag flew.

Sager’s first win of the season in race two was more comprehensive, defending off early advances from Jones before pulling away to take a strong victory, his first of the year, by two seconds.

Formula Ford rookie standout Tomas Randle finished third overall after yet another strong overall weekend performance saw him jump to eighth in the championship – despite missing the opening round in Tasmania in April.

Randle’s Volvparts / Evans Motorsport Mygale qualified only ninth after missing Friday practice with a clutch failure, but charged forward to fourth in race one and an outstanding second position in the slippery race two behind Sager.

He ran third on the road in the finale’ – behind only the warring Rising Stars drivers – but was later penalised 5 seconds post-race for a start line infringement and was ultimately classified fifth.

Former championship leader Anton DePasqaule endured a challenging weekend with pace and luck not going the way of the #2 Shamick Racing / Sonic

Motor Racing Mygale driver.

He qualified second (just 0.05s behind Jones) and finished third in the opening race, handing the points lead to Jones for the first time this year. The 17-year-old Victorian was unlucky not to finish race two – whilst running in front of Jones - on Sunday morning.

He rebounded to third in the finale’ from the back of the field and remains the only multiple race winner not called Macauley Jones this season.

Toowoomba driver Jordan Lloyd showed superb pace on home turf, qualifying fifth and bounding back from a race one non-finish (after a collision with Sam Power) to finishes of sixth and fourth in races two and three, respectively in his BF Racing Mygale.

The EWP Hard Charger Award winner was taken by another of the Mygale brigade, Jayden Wallis, another of the CAMS Rising Star squad.

The next round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be contested at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, on the August 23-25 weekend, with the V8 Supercars.

Three wins for Macauley Jones in Townsville streetfight

After taking a maiden race victory on the Saturday, Albury youngster Macauley Jones carried his good form over to Sunday at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 to sweep the second round of the 2013 Australian Formula Ford Championship in style.

After a nail-biting race one victory on Saturday, Jones was in imperious form on the final day of the event and converted his front-row start to a comfortable race two victory – before doing the same in race three to sweep the round.

It is the maiden overall victory for the son of V8 Supercars team owner Brad, and

the first of the year for the CAMS Rising Star / Minda Motorsport Mygale squad.

Jones’ perfect score of 60 points elevated him to second in the championship, now just six points behind round one winner and points leader, Sonic Motor Racing Services Mygale driver Anton De Pasquale.

17-year-old Adelaide racer Luke Marquis (Sonic Motor Racing Mygale) placed second overall with finishes of second, fourth and second across the three races.

Championship leader De Pasquale finished equal on points with his Sonic

Motor Racing Services team-mate but scored third overall, maintaining his points advantage though at a heavily reduced margin. The Sonic driver was the main beneficiary of the Power / Marquis duel in race two, leaping up three spots to snare second overall.

Liam Sager just missed out on a round podium finish – a non-finish in race two costing the Mygale pilot.

The 18-year-old from Moranbah in Queensland was shadowing teammate Jones in race two this morning before retiring two laps from home.

In an inspired charge, he worked his way forward from 12th position to a hard-fought fourth in the final 12-lap race to salvage good points from the weekend.

Toowoomba Mygale driver Jordan Lloyd was fifth overall, driving for the single-car BF Racing outfit. Despite racing without the support of teammates, Lloyd’s consistency resulted in a strong overall result and an improved championship position in a strong weekend.

A starring debut performance from Victorian rookie Thomas Randle was a feature of the weekend, the VolvParts Mygale driver finishing an astounding

third in race two on Sunday morning, and sixth overall for the weekend.

After two of seven rounds, Anton De Pasquale (100 points) leads the Australian Formula Ford Championship by just six points over Macauley Jones (94). Sam Power (78), Ash Quiddington (61) and Liam Sager (57) complete the top five.

Luke Marquis, Jordan Lloyd and Simon Hodge are all within three points of Sager in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

Matt Campbell and Thomas Randle complete the top ten in the standings ahead of the next round at the Coates Hire Ipswich 300 on July 27-28.

Austrian Grand Prix legend Gerhard Berger is the man behind the FIA’s scheme to simplify the pathway for young drivers to Formula 1 with plans unveiled for a new global junior single-seater formula to start in 2014.

FIA Formula 4 will start off as a single-make category before morphing into a multi-make slicks-and-wings formula based around a carbon chassis, according to Berger, the FIA Single-Seater Commission president.

It will use engines up to two litres in capacity and limited to 150bhp. Each championship will use a single make of engine, but different manufacturers may build engines for the formula in different countries. The engines will be equalised so that one version of Formula 4 is not faster than another.

“We’re going to have a single supplier of the engine per country, but we don’t want a fixed chassis supplier,” Berger said.

At the FIA’s recent category launch a Mygale-built chassis was on display and the French manufacturer have been highly involved with the development of the category’s chassis regulations.

Berger hopes to develop the formula in Europe starting in 2014, before rolling it out to other parts of the globe.

“We have requests from the ASNs because markets have changed a lot in the last years,” he added.

“Now the regulations have been completed we are offering the package to the nations.

“I would like to start in Europe from 2014 with a limited number, maybe four or five, as the first step.

“We need to prove it works before it goes to a larger scale.”

Berger has asked manufacturers to build a new chassis to a very modest price pointfor the Formula 4 category but at this stage Mygale have been the only manufacturer to commit and build a prototype.

CAMS representatives were present at the launch and will look at all available options for a future class in Australia.

Another Lap Record for Foster at Sydney Motorsport Park

After a dominant display in Darwin, Team BRM/Mygale F3 driver Nick Foster came away from Sydney Motorsport Park with another lap record to his credit during the fourth round fo the F3 Australian Drivers Championship.

Foster qualified the Mygale M11/Mercedes in fifth and was moored in a hard battling pack throughout the three races, the nature of the western Sydney circuit making it hard to break away from the group.

Foster also broke the three-year-old Sydney Motorsport Park F3 lap record in his race one charge, leaving the new benchmark six-tenths faster than the old, at 1m22.6290s.

Foster finished third in race one – after carving his way through from fifth after a

slow start – and fourth in the second sprint race, behind Jordan Oon. Race two was notable for a 1-2-3-4 result for Team BRM – the first in Australian Formula 3 history.

The Sunday race saw Foster progress to a very credible fourth place finish.

The results see Foster drop one place to third in the Australian Driver’s Championship, but both driver and team boss Greg Woodrow are still pleased with the progress of the Mygale F3 program.

“We can’t be disppointed. We’ve taken a couple of race wins and we have secured the lap record at the last two tracks we’ve been to,” said Woodrow.

“We knew we’d be competitive but to be honest we’re probably a little ahead fo where we thought we’d be results-wise at this point.

“Nick is doing a great job, the guys at Team BRM have been fantastic to work with and we’re getting a heap of support from the factory in France so we’re pretty confident of snatching another couple of wins before the season ends.

“If we can do that we should be right in the race for the Championship.”

The F3 Australian Drivers Championship resumes at Queensland Raceway on August 2 - 4.

Dan Cammish remains the only driver to have won in Formula Ford GB so far this season as he scored his 15th victory as the campaign reached its half-way point at Croft.

Starting from pole position, Cammish quickly opened up a gap over the rest of the field and took another commanding win to the tune of 6.7 seconds.

Harrison Scott passed Nico Maranzanafor second place on lap two and managed to then keep the gap to

Cammish at just over three seconds but then dropped off over the rest of the race.

Debutant Sam MacLeod was passed for fourth on the first lap by Andy Richardson, only to take the place back on lap two. Lassi Halminen then took the position at the hairpin at the end of lap six, but was later forced to retire with a broken gear lever.

MacLeod took fourth back to secure the best result of his maiden weekend,

ahead of Jamun team-mates Juan Rosso and Jayde Kruger. Richardson fell back to seventh ahead of Shaun Thong and the JTR pairing of Camren Kaminsky and Sam Brabham.

The 2013 Victorian Formula Ford Championship continues to provide thrilling racing with three thrilling races rounding out Round four of the Championship at Sandown.

Sonic Motor Racing Services/Mygale driver Nick Rowe took the win in the feature, a feat made all the more remarkable after starting from the rear in race one after dramas in qualifying.

Thomas Randle started from pole in the Volvparts Mygale SJ13a, and was a full second clear of P2 after a very wet qualifying. He finished with two second placings and a third to finish third overall for the weekend.

Rowe finished ninth and fifth before winning a typical Snadown slipstreaming

duel with Randle and Nick Ellen to go on to take the victory in race three.

Hamish Hardeman won the opener before slipping to third and then fourth when the weather cleared up on Sunday.

Jake Spencer and Christian Morina came away with a pair of top ten places on Sunday after disappointing races in the torrential Saturday rain while Julian Lunetta drove a great race to third on Saturday but did not finish in race two. He bounced back to record a top ten result in race three.

Reigning New Zealand Formula Ford Champion James Munro made an appearance with Minda Motorsport and showed his talent qualifying seventh and finishing eighth on Saturday before a pair

of unlucky DNFs on Sunday.

Consistency paid off for Ellen, taking the round win by one point from both Randle and Rowe and with one round remaining Ellen holds sway in the Championship chase over Tom Grech and Randle.

The fifth and final round of the Championship is due to be held at Phillip Island on the weekend of October 26 & 27.

How did they make it? Jamie Whincup, Nick Percat, Will Davison, Craig Lowndes, Luke Youlden, Cameron Waters, Mark Winterbottom, Jack Lebrocq, Jensen Button, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and many more! How did they make the transition from Karts and take those first tentative steps towards a full-time motorsport career? Have you ever looked at motorsport as a career and thought ‘How do I get my shot?’

When it comes to building a career out of motor racing Greg Woodrow knows more than most. As a champion Karter and Formula Ford driver and now as the importer of Mygale’s race-winning Formula Ford and Formula 3 cars he’s seen many a talented driver come and go.

And he has personally experienced many of the ups-and-downs that can go with a lifetime involved in the sport.

“What really opened my eyes was my global involvement with Mygale and

Bertrand Decoster, Mygale’s French head of operations,” said Woodrow.

“This has brought relationships with drivers, team owners and the hierarchy of motorsport across the globe.

“This is what showed me that there is an urgent need to get the right information to our young drivers.

“The FIA, CAMS and the AMSF are doing an amazing job of building a pathway for our young guys, but the drivers need to be aware of the opportunities.” Now, in an effort to help young drivers move from Karting into circuit racing, and to help them avoid many of the pitfalls that have befallen plenty of talented drivers in the past, Woodrow and his team have launched Race Academy. Race Academy will consist of a series of seminars around the country that will aim to educate drivers moving from Karting into circuit racing, and to dispel a lot of the rumours that exist around the move into cars.

Woodrow has been involved in the formative years of many of these driver’s careers so he knows how some have struggled through different stages of their developmental years. “They all have a different story to tell,” said Woodrow. “They’ve all had their ups-and-downs and there has been plenty of hard knocks along the way, but they all have a few things in common. “They all have an amazing level of commitment and tenacity and a never-say-die attitude. “They also all have an innate ability to listen and to educate themselves on what it takes to navigate the maze of mis-information, bad information and rumours to ultimately cement themselves a well-paid career at the highest levels of motorsport.” Race Academy hosts a series of one-day seminars in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane featuring a number of guest speakers covering many aspects of a

career in motorsport including fitness, nutrition, sponsorship, dealing with media and will cover the real costs of moving into the premier junior development class of Formula Ford. Race Academy has been developed from the highly successful Mygale Rewards program that has seen a number of highly regarded drivers pass through it over the last few years. Todd Hazelwood, Mathew Hart, Chelsea Angelo, James Golding and current 2013 AFFC leader Anton DePasquale are just some of the drivers that have graduated through the Rewards Program into Formula Ford and beyond. “We’ve been around long enough to know that Formula Ford is one of the most important steps in any drivers careers,” said Woodrow.

“There is a reason that Formula Ford is the longest running motorsport category in the world today, and there is no doubt that when you try to jump the queue you may never recover from missing this most important link in the career chain.” Bertrand Decoster, recently in Australia to watch Macauley Jones clean sweep the Townsville AFFC round and Nick Foster make history in Darwin with his M11 Mygale F3 firmly believes that worldwide the path of Formula Ford then Formula 3 is the best way to forge a career in racing. “Too many people out there don’t have all the facts they need to make an informed, calculated decision on whether they can make the move into Formula Ford and beyond.

“We can categorically say that it is nowhere near as restrictive as some people out there would have you believe - so why not come along, learn about it first-hand and avoid the wealth of bad information out there being sprouted by people who don’t have all the information. “For years my organisation has been all about developing the next generation of motor racing champions and we’re really proud to be able to launch Race Academy and to make the transition from karts to cars a little easier for those that are serious about making a career from the sport,” he said. Dates for the Race Academy seminars are being finalised shortly so be sure to check out www.raceacademy.com.au for more information on costs and locations.

Six times consecutive NSW Formula Ford Championship winning team Anglo Australian Motorsport has started the team’s 2013 Championship campaign with some promising results walking away from round one at Sydney Motorsport Park leading the point scores in both the Formula Ford 1600 Championship and the Formula Ford Fiesta Championship.

A Saturday morning track configuration change to the 3.93km Grand Prix circuit meant the four drivers had to throw out Friday’s practice knowledge and learn the different configuration in the first qualifying session on Saturday morning.

2012 part time competitor Chris Anthony makes the move from the

1600 championship into the Fiesta championship for the 2013 season steering a Mygale SJ09a. Impressing in the first qualifying session Anthony set the fastest time on the very wet circuit, qualifying two was a faster outing knocking two seconds off his earlier time qualifying in fourth position.

Race one saw Anthony battle through from fourth proving his talent battling for first position with the 2011 and 2012 Fiesta champion securing the lead and taking out his first win for the season. The final two races of the weekend enjoyed a drier track with Anthony further improving his speed finishing up in second position setting the second fastest time of the race under the previous lap record. Race three showed more speed and consistency

improving again on his race two times and finishing with another second position.

Past historic competitor Cameron Walters makes the move into the Formula Ford 1600 championship this year running a Harrigan Ford sponsored Mygale SJ07a as part of the 2013 Anglo line up. Qualifying seventh on the grid for race one Walters battled through the field making it up to fifth position before a safety car hampered his hopes of progressing any further through the field. Race two allowed the part time pilot to fly past his competition moving up to first position for the 1600 cars for his first podium finish of the weekend. The results continued to come in race three with Walters securing his fastest lap time for the weekend and another first position in the trophy race
