Student Course Selection
MYAP Procedures
2019
Go to the CCHS website/Counseling Department tab to find graduation requirements and the Pathway & Course Handbook
Click on the icon for the handbook
Look through the pathway section for your suggested graduation plan. Look through the course section for descriptions of each course.
Click here for graduation with honors guidelines
If you plan to graduate with honors, check the requirements and be sure to select the courses you will need. ● You must take the school-day SAT in April.
● You must meet the minimum GPA requirements.
● You must meet the course and credit requirements.
● You must complete the application and meet the deadlines.
Log in to your student portal
To see what courses you still need, click on Academic Progress
The course requirements in red have not been met and should be selected in your academic course plan.
These may be inaccurate.
Check with Mrs. Carlton if you are not sure.

Make sure your academic plan is for the correct graduation year.

Click “Next”
Student courses are listed by grade level and subject
If you are missing a required course for your graduation plan, an alert will appear in red.
Juniors will add courses for the 19-20 school year.
You must take an English class and American Government
Student course selections:All students need to choose enough courses to add up to ten credits (twenty sections). The count will show at the top of each grade level column (but will not include non-credit courses).
All students need to select at least four alternates.
Students need to be aware of course numbers/letters that denote the following and choose accordingly:
H - honorsX - flex C - concurrentA - intervention

Click in the blank space in each subject area to see options
As you click in the subject space, a drop-down list appears. (If you type in part of the name of the course, anything with that in the name will populate. If you can’t find the one you’re looking for, it may be in a different subject tab.) Be sure to look for X for Flex, H for Honors, and C for Concurrent Enrollment (and combinations of these.) If none of these letters follow the course number, then the course is a traditional course. Select & enter.
Course selections are populated and then locked or unlocked as needed.

If you select a course and you do not have the requirements for it,
it will be flagged in red.
Any courses for which you do not qualify and any previously taken courses are shaded out. In some cases, you may still select them, but you will be able to tell that you have already received credit for them or that
you need a prerequisite.
SENIOR ENGLISH:● LIST A – if you did not take English 11 or American Literature this year, you
must select either English 12, American Literature, or Early European Literature as a senior.
● LIST A or B – If you took English 11 or American Literature this year, you can choose from any of the following for your senior English class:
○ If college prep – you should try to take American Literature or Early European Literature!!! English 12 is designed for those following a vocational program.
○ If not, you can take any of those or one of the following: Creative Writing, Analytical Reading & Writing, Technical Theater, Drama III, Video Production, Competitive Speech, or Journalism
If an alert appears for English:
If you have received one full credit for English in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade -
make sure you sign up for the appropriate class for your senior year and you may ignore the alert.
If you have not received your English credits, sign up for the extra English or for credit recovery.
MATH● If you have completed three full credits of math to include
a proficiency (geometry or career math or higher), you are not required to take another math class.
● If you are planning to attend a competitive four-year college:
○ You should take math through at least Algebra II (preferred), Math for Liberal Arts, or Statistics.
○ You are highly encouraged to take a math class as a senior.
SCIENCE● If you have completed two full credits of science to include
earth science and either biology or environmental science, you are not required to take another science class.
● If you are planning to attend a competitive four-year college:
○ You are encouraged to take at least three years of science
■ Chemistry and/or physics is preferred
SOCIAL STUDIES● American Government is required
○ You may not select your teacher – the master schedule will determine your class
○ A public policy project will be required
● You must have credit for Contemporary Studies, US History, and at least .5 credit in some other social studies class. If you do not, you should select these (or credit recovery for them) as part of your senior schedule.
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION
● You must have one full credit in a course that introduces or prepares you for a future career:
○ Business/Computer courses
○ Skilled Trades
○ LET
○ Family/Consumer Sciences
PaICE - Counts as elective or career and technical
Internships - 2 blocks per day per quarterGreat experience in a field of your interestCan do internships in more than one area
Work - 1 block per day per 15 hours of workYou must keep a job and work at least 15 hours per weekYou must provide documentation of hours worked
PE/HEALTH● If you have not taken a health course yet, you must select
“CHOICES” as a course for next year
● If you have not taken a PE course yet, you must select one of the following for at least one quarter:
○ Sports for Life (team sports)○ Weightlifting (previously “Fitness”)○ Body Works (primarily for female students – yoga, aerobics, etc.)○ Foundations of CrossFit (strenuous total body workout)○ Foundations of Jiu-Jitsu (taught off-campus; must have your own transportation)
● You may take extra PE courses as electives. Please limit to no more than 2 per quarter.
HUMANITIES● You must have at least one credit in one of the following
areas:○ Art
○ Speech
○ Drama
○ Spanish
○ Music
○ Video Production
If the credit is used as a junior or senior English credit, it will not count as your humanities requirement.
STUDENT PROGRAMS
● If you like to help others, please consider applying for Tiger Pride Link Crew.
● During the course, you will learn about effective relationships and plan for activities to help our freshmen with their transition to CCHS.
● This course will count as an elective credit.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
● You must have ½ credit in either Business Applications or Computer Applications.
● If you have not already taken it, sign up for it.
● If you took it and did not pass it, sign up for Credit Recovery or plan to go to summer school for it.
ELECTIVES● You must have a total of 15 elective credits.● Anything other than your required courses are considered
electives. These may be listed under other categories rather than under the “electives” tab.
○ Extra English, math, science or social studies classes
○ Extra PE classes
○ Teacher assistant
○ Extra humanities classes (choir, band, Spanish, drama)
○ Extra career tech classes (PaICE, ADDA, Welding, Auto, Carpentry, Machining, Culinary, CNA, etc.)
TEACHER APPROVALS
● If a course requires teacher approval, you may select it;
HOWEVER,
● If you are not approved for the course, you will be removed from the course and your alternates will replace it.
NON-CREDIT SELECTIONS● If you want an independent block, please select it for each
quarter you want to have it.● If you need to take a credit recovery class, select it for each
quarter you need it.● If you plan to graduate early:
○ Make sure you will have your required credits by December.
○ Select early graduation as a non-credit choice.
○ Write your letter to Mr. Summers giving your reason for wanting to graduate early and submit it to Mrs. Carlton. (see the counseling website for instructions and a sample letter)
ALTERNATES
● You must list AT LEAST four alternates.
○ These should be courses you are willing to take if something you have selected does not work in your schedule.
○ List your alternates in order of preference.
SPECIAL EDUCATION COURSES
● After discussing your plans with your IEP manager, you may select specific courses listed in this tab.
● IEP managers and your parents will have the final say for IEP students’ schedules.
Once you have all courses and alternates selected, click save and the courses are now ready for
registration
A pop-up screen tells whether program and/or course requirements have been met
ERROR MESSAGES – see your counselor!● Course planning rules not met:
○ prerequisites needed, transfer courses, etc.
● Academic Program requirements not met:○ Missing required courses
○ Haven’t selected enough courses for the senior year
● Not enough alternates selected:○ Choose AT LEAST FOUR alternates
Once you have looked over the pop-up message, you may make changes and then save or you can just click “OK” to save the selections.

● If the pop-up box says, “Course plan not saved”

If you have any questions about which courses you should take and which are required, see your counselor
and your teachers for recommendations.
