TRANSMISSION KEY FEATURES The Transmission and All Wheel Drive (AWD) Systems on the MY16 Captiva are carried over from previous Models.

6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH ACTIVE SHIFT CONTROL AND ACTIVE SELECT

Available with your choice of engine, it features Active Shift Control, which monitors the way you drive and adapts shift changes accordingly, and Active Select, which lets you switch to manual gear shifting for a more ‘hands on’ driving experience.

ECONOMY DRIVE MODE

ECO Drive mode is designed to improve the vehicle’s fuel economy. When selected, the transmission will up-shift sooner and downshift later, the torque converter will lock up sooner and stay on longer, and the accelerator pedal will be less sensitive. Available only with automatic transmission.

THE ACTIVE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM

Captiva LT and LTZ diesel models automatically divides engine torque between the front and rear wheels, depending upon driving conditions.

Normally, the vehicle is driven from the front wheels only, resulting in improved fuel economy compared with traditional four wheel drive systems. However, the moment the vehicle’s sensors detect under normal conditions the vehicle is driven via the front wheels only, up to 50% of engine torque is directed to the rear wheels.

As a result, the vehicle’s full power is transferred to the road, even in tight corners, during hill starts or on slippery surfaces, such as wet or icy roads.

The Captiva’s Active All Wheel Drive is also fully integrated with the vehicle’s Electronic Stability Control and Anti-lock Braking System, and is activated automatically to counteract vehicle instability in a range of situations.

6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION

An manual transmission with ultra-smooth monoblock precision forged gears, this 6-speed gearbox teams with the 2.4 litre petrol engine for exceptional launch feel, rapid shifting and quiet, fuel-efficient highway cruising, thanks to a low ratio overdrive.

SUSPENSION SYSTEMS KEY FEATURES

FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION

Front and Rear Suspension are both carried over from the previous Captiva.

Front: MacPherson strut, gas pressurised dampers, stabiliser bar.

Rear: Independent four-link, gas pressurised dampers, stabiliser bar.

Camber and Toe-in are adjustable, refer to Service Information for Wheel Alignment Specifications.

LEVEL RIDE SUSPENSION

The Level ride suspension is a safety and comfort feature that automatically adjusts the suspension level to help maintain the vehicle's nominal ride height when loaded.

On the rear wheels, conventional absorbers are replaced by a compact self-levelling shock absorber. All elements such as the oil reservoir, pressure accumulator, pump, height sensor, control mechanism, and the damping unit of the self-pumping, hydropneumatic levelling system are completely integrated into the damper. When a load is placed in the rear of the vehicle, the suspension is lifted upward to its previous unloaded level as the vehicle is driven. Depending on road conditions, the fully loaded vehicle attains its nominal ride height after only a few hundred meters.

STEERING SYSTEMS KEY FEATURES Speed Sensitive Power Steering

Tilt function

The Captiva comes with a Speed Sensitive Power Steering which has been carried over from the previous model. The SSPS system varies the driver effort required to steer as the vehicle speed changes.

• At low speeds the system provides maximum assistance for easy turning and parking.

• At higher speeds the assistance is reduced to provide firmer steering and directional stability.

The SSPS control module is mounted to a metal bracket half way down the steering column. It constantly adjusts the amount of current flowing through the SSPS actuator with the desired current it has calculated using the vehicle speed signal from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). The SSPS control module alters the amount of current flowing through the SSPS actuator by varying the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal.

The SSPS actuator is located in the power steering valve body on the steering rack.

Inside the base of the power steering valve body is a large electromagnetic coil.

Just above the coil is an inner and outer pole assembly.

The outer pole is attached to the spool shaft and the inner pole is attached to the pinion.

Steering feel is varied by changing the strength of the electromagnetic field at the electromagnetic coil

SAFETY AND SECURITY SYSTEMS KEY FEATURES

Blind Spot Alert (LTZ model) Rear Cross Traffic Alert (LTZ model) Rear View Camera Active Rollover Protection monitors body roll Hill Start Assist Descent Control System ISOFIX child seat anchorage technology Passive safety systems instantly determine the severity and direction of impact, then activates

the required occupant protection features.

SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT (SBZA) (LTZ model) SBZA is a lane-changing aid that assists drivers avoiding crashes that occur with moving vehicles in the side blind zone (or spot) areas. The SBZA warning display will light up in the corresponding outside side mirror and will flash if the turn signal is on.

Side Blind Zone Alert collision-avoidance technology operates via radar sensors located on both sides of the vehicle’s rear fascia/bumper. The SBZA sensor covers a zone of approximately one lane over from both sides of the vehicle, or 3.5 m (11 ft). The height of the zone is approximately between 0.5 m (1.5 ft) and 2 m (6 ft) off the ground. This zone starts at approximately the middle of the vehicle and goes back 5 m (16 ft).

The Side Blind Zone Alert system can be personalised through the DIC menu

NOTE: SBZA does not detect vehicles rapidly approaching outside of the side blind zones, pedestrians, cyclists or animals.

NOTE: SBZA Radar are mounted to rear fascia/bumper. Repairs cannot be carried out to rear fascia/bumper as wall thickness is critical for correct operation.

REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA) (LTZ model) The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system warns the driver of vehicles approaching from behind the vehicle when reversing. A red warning triangle with an arrow may also display on the RVC screen to warn of traffic coming from either direction, behind the vehicle.

When an object is detected, three beeps sound on the left or right side, depending on the direction of the detected vehicle. This system detects objects coming from up to 20 m (65 ft) from the left or right side behind the vehicle.

Use caution while backing up when towing a trailer, as the RCTA detection zones that extend out from the back of your vehicle do not move further back when a trailer is towed.

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system can be personalised through the DIC menu

Rear View Camera

The Rear View Camera shows you what’s behind when reversing, automatically on the 7-inch colour touch-screen.

NOTE: The reverse camera is not intended to replace the driver’s judgement or attention toward the rear of the vehicle when reversing.

Active Rollover Protection

Should it detect excessive body roll during cornering or a lane change, Active Rollover Protection applies braking to each wheel as required, with extra brakeforce directed to those wheels with most grip.

The vehicle’s speed reduces, and with it, the amount of roll. The system monitors body roll and automatically initiates braking counter measures if required.

Hill Start Assist

Hill Start Assist prevents the Captiva unintentionally rolling backwards or forwards down a slope.

Engaging automatically on gradients, it keeps the vehicle stationary after the brake is released, giving you time to use the accelerator to pull away.

Descent Control System

Captiva's Descent Control System is activated with the touch of a button, limiting downhill speed via engine control and automatic braking. It enables smooth, controlled hill descents and allows the driver to concentrate primarily on steering.

ISOFIX

ISOFIX child seat anchorage technology across the range ensures your precious little ones are kept safe with a rock solid connection between the vehicle and child car seat.

SELF-LEVELING SUSPENSION

Once the kids tents, bikes and even the dog are packed, the Captiva still ensures a comfortable ride. Self-contained load-sensitive rear shock absorbers automatically adjust to the load and road conditions, giving you a superior ride.

6 AIRBAGS

The Captiva comes standard with all the safety features you expect including 6 airbags. These include curtain airbags for front and left and right second seat occupants, plus driver and front passenger front and side airbags.

VEHICLE ACCESS PASSIVE ENTRY PASSIVE START (PEPS) Captiva Keyless Entry and Start The Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) system is in many of the Holden model range including VF Commodore, WN Caprice, Cruze, Malibu and more recently the new Spark . These vehicles use the Global A electrical architecture. The Captiva does not use a “Global A” electrical architecture

The Captiva utilises the following components as part of the Keyless Entry & Start system:

1. Keyless Entry Transmitters (Fobs) 2. Ignition Mode Switch 3. Key Capture Solenoid 4. Console Passive Antenna 5. Headliner Passive Antenna 6. Console Active Antenna 7. LH and RH Door Antennas 8. Rear Compartment Antenna 9. Door Handle and Tailgate Switches 10. Body Control Module 11. Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 12. Engine Control Module (ECM) 13. Remote Control Door Lock Receiver

(RCDLR)

KEY DIFFERENCES WITH THE CAPTIVA KEYLESS ENTRY AND START SYSTEM

Unique keyless entry transmitters Door handle switches are for passive unlocking only (they cannot be used to lock the

vehicle) Ignition Mode Switch - Keyless cylinder on steering column instead of push button Mechanical instead of Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) Personalisation is managed through the IPC instead of the radio

KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER The first thing you will notice with this system is that the keyless entry transmitter is a totally different design for a Holden. It shares is origins with a few other GM products including the Cadillac family and it features a mechanical key contained within the transmitter for use in case of a flat transmitter battery. Key removal is a simple process of pressing the small detent button (arrowed) and then pulling the metal key/end piece from the remote key body.

MECHANICAL STEERING COLUMN LOCK This system does not have an Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) module. Instead the steering column is locked mechanically by using the ignition mode switch (in the same way as a conventional keyed steering column lock would function) when it is in the lock/off position. DOOR SWITCHES The switches in the door handles function in a very similar way to the door switches in other Holden PEPS systems however they are only used for unlocking the vehicle.

PERSONALISATION The ‘Keyless Locking’ feature can be switched ON or OFF via cluster. To access the menu, place the vehicle in Park and with odometer button, to enter personalisation. Personalisation has Locking Change and Features Settings Exit. Switch between holding the button for a few seconds selects the displayed

ACTIVE KEYLESS ENTRY The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the door locks to unlock the vehicle. Keyless entry will lock/unlock all doors and the rear compartment when the corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a high frequency (433 MHz) radio signal to the RCDLR. The RCDLR interprets the signal and activates the requested function via a serial data message.

Keyless entry allows you to operate the following features:

Door Lock/Unlock Rear Tailgate Release

Illuminated Entry Lamps Vehicle Locator

PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY Passive keyless entry allows entry to a locked vehicle without pressing any buttons on the keyless entry transmitter. When passively opening a locked door or the rear compartment, you must have a programmed transmitter with you in your pocket, purse, or briefcase. When the customer presses a door handle button or rear compartment touch pad, the antenna sends out a challenge to the keyless entry transmitter. If the transmitter is within range and receives the challenge, the transponder will send a coded response to the RCDLR. The RCDLR will then send a “Door Unlock” serial data request to the BCM to unlock all the doors and allow the rear compartment to be opened.

IGNITION MODE SWITCH This system does not feature a push button ignition mode switch. The driver is able to start the vehicle with the turn of a keyless cylinder located on the right hand side of the steering column. The ignition mode switch is similar in operation to a conventional ignition switch, it can be rotated from LOCK/OFF to ACC, ON or START positions, but the knob cannot be removed or turned to the ACC, ON or START positions unless a valid keyless entry transmitter is detected. To start the vehicle the knob is pushed in, rotated clockwise held in the START position with foot brake applied until engine starts.

In some circumstances the vehicle may not start and the message ‘ELECTRONIC KEY NOT DETECTED’ is displayed in the DIC.

• To start the vehicle, you must place the key in close proximity to the PEPS active antenna located at the bottom of the centre console.

• Ensure the transmission is in Neutral (N) or Park (P) and then attempt to start the vehicle. •

SELLING POINTS Captiva has a perception of poor quality. Reasons for rejection of Captiva can be attributed directly to reviews on poor vehicle quality.

As part of the MY16 Captiva launch, we need to emphasise the advancement of the vehicle - not only in its appearance and technology – but from a quality perspective also.

Captiva is without question a Reliable Family Car!!

HOW IS MY16 CAPTIVA BETTER? Engine Front Cover Replacement and Engine Oil Level Sensor Replacement:

Issue: Both of these labour codes can be attributed to oil leaks on Diesel engines. This failure has been significant over a long period of time.

Fix: The most recent breakpoint has all but eliminated the issue!! The breakpoint for the fix was in April 2015 and the latest mature data point shows zero failures post breakpoint.

Navigation Information Display Replacement:

Issue: Customers do not like the integrated Sat Nav on LTZ
