FOOD FOR THOUGHTGAINING STRENGTH

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Here is a true story After more than 20 years in youth ministry, a Minister has weathered his fair share of injuries on the job. Most recently, he was involved in a competitive outdoor game when he twisted his foot. Playing football through the pain, he conceded to his injury only after winning the contest. He limped to a nearby place to sit down and carefully remove his socks, only to see his ankle quickly swelling past the size of an orange. A trip to the hospital revealed it wasn't broken, but he soon realized it will take time before his foot could bear the weight of his body once again.

Pain often serves as a reminder of our limitations. To those of us who pride ourselves on our independence and feel most comfortable being in control, we don't relish the pain when it reminds us we're vulnerable. Instead of admitting our need, we "play through the pain", if not to convince ourselves, then to assure others that we can handle whatever comes our way. All one likes to feel weak.

The whole crux of the gospel, however rest on our desperate need and insufficiency on our own resources- Pride keeps us from admitting our needs, much less our failures- But until we are willing to deal with those things, we cut ourselves off from the fullness of the power of Christ in our lives.

Strength for the believer looks far different than what the world professes. Scripture has it that: "Jesus gave up his divine privileges and was born as a human being" (Philppians2:7), in the greatest show of power the heavens have ever witnessed (2 Corinthians 13:4). We gain strength when we see difficulties and our weakness as a means for his power and grace to be at work in us (2 Cor. 12:9-10). This is the difference between limping and running (lsaiah 40:29-31) Remain ever Blessed.

ADMONITION FOR THE WEEK Until we are willing to deal with pride, we cut ourselves off from the fullness of the power of Christ in our lives.

Your brother, friend, pastor & Archdeacon ‘Seyi Pirisola

BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE

STUDIES IN ACTS

INTRODUCTION:

Last week, we saw the folly of choosing first and then asking the Holy Spirit to bless your

choice. We also learnt a lot of lessons from the fall of Judas Iscariot. Today, we move to the

next chapter of the Book of Acts, we pray that God will bless us richly in Jesus name. Amen.

1. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN FOR THE HARVESTING OF SOULS

The feast of Pentecost is held from 6th to 13th of June after the harvesting of wheat. Acts 2:

1 – 4; Acts 2: 41. This shows clearly that the Holy Spirit choose this day of Pentecost to

come because the principal purpose of the Holy Spirit is to harvest souls an to separate the

wheat from the tares. John 16: 7 – 13; Exodus 32: 26 – 28.

2. THERE WAS A PURPOSE BEHIND THE TARRYING OF THE APOSTLES TOO

Some of the reasons why the apostles had to tarry long in the upper room before the Holy

Spirit descended on them are to have time to (i) Pray (ii) repent thoroughly (iii0 meditate (iv)

Surrender and (v) obey.

2 Chronicles 7: 14; 1 John 1:9; Romans 13: 8; Psalm 66: 18; 1 Corinthians 1: 20; 1

Corinthians 1: 25; Psalm 73: 21; 1 Samuel 2: 3 – 4; Psalm 73: 26; 1 Corinthians 1: 27;

Psalm 73: 27 –28; Romans 6: 13; John 4: 34; Acts 5: 32; Matthew 18: 19; Jeremiah 29:

13; Acts 1: 8, Ecclesiastes 9: 16 – 17.

14 3

Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

THINE FOR EVER, THINE FOR EVER

CHRIST, WHOSE GLORY FILLS THE SKIES

1 THINE for ever! Thine for ever! May Thy Face upon us shine. Help, oh, help our weak en-deavour, LORD, to be for ever Thine.

2 Thine for everl Thine for ever! Thine for ever may we be, May no sin nor sorrow sever Us from union, LORD, with Thee.

3 Thine for ever! Thine for ever! Armed with faith, and strong in Thee, Ever lighting, fainting never, May we march to victory!

4 Daily in the grace increasing Of Thy SPIRIT, more and more, Watching, praying without ceas-ing, May we reach the Heavenly shore.

5 Hard the conflict; but what glory Is revealed to our eyes While we read the Heavenly story Of our home beyond the skies.

6 "Thine for ever," we are singing Here on earth; and while we sing, Voices in our ears are ringing, Hymns of Angels to our King.

7 Thine for ever! Thine for ever! Let Thy Face upon us shine. Help, oh, help our weak en-deavour,

LORD, to be for ever Thine.

8 Glory be to GOD the FATHER,

Glory be to GOD the SON,

Glory to the HOLY SPIRIT,

Glory to the THREE in ONE.

Amen.

1. CHRIST, Whose glory fills the skies, CHRIST, the true, the only Light, Sun of Righteousness, arise, Triumph o'er the shades of night; Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear.

2. Dark and cheerless is the morn Unaccompanied by Thee; Joyless is the day's return, Till Thv mercv's beams I see; Till Thy inward light imparts. Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

3. Visit, then, this soul of mine, Pierce the gloom of sin and grief! Fill me, Radiancy Divine, Scatter all my unbelief; More and more Thyself display, Shining to the perfect day. Amen.

1. GIVE thanks unto the Lord for ' he is ' gracious : because his ' mercy en'dureth for ' ever.2 Let Israel now confess that ' he is ' gracious : and that his ' mercy en'dureth for ' ever.3 Let the house of Aaron ' now con'fess : that his ' mercy en-' dureth for ' ever.4 Yea let them now that fear the ' Lord con'fess : that his ' mercy en'dureth for ' ever.5 I called upon the ' Lord in ' trouble : and the Lord ' heard ' me at' large.6 The Lord is ' on my ' side : I will not ' fear what ' man doeth ' unto me.7 The Lord taketh my part with ' them that ' help me : therefore shall I see my de'sire up'on mine ' enemies.8 It is better to ' trust in the ' Lord : than to ' put • any ' confidence in ' man.9 It is better to ' trust in the ' Lord : than to ' put • any ' confidence in ' princes.10 All nations compassed me ' round a'bout : but in the Name of the ' Lord will' I de'stroy them.11 They kept me in on every side, they kept me in I say on ' every ' side : but in the Name of the ' Lord will' I de'stroy them.12 They came about me like bees, and are extinct even as the fire a'mong the ' thorns : for in the Name of the ' Lord I ' will de-' stroy them.

PSALM 118: 1-12

1. O COME let us ' sing unto the ' Lord : let us heartily rejoice in the ' strength of' our

sal'vation.

2 Let us come before his ' presence with ' thanksgiving : and shew ourselves ' glad in ' him

with ' psalms.

3 For the Lord is a ' great' God : and a great' King above ' all' gods.

4 In his hand are all the ' corners • of the ' earth : and the strength of the ' hills is ' his ' also.

5 The sea is his and ' he ' made it : and his hands pre ' pared the 'dry ' land.

6 O come let us worship and ' fall ' down : and kneel be'fore the ' Lord our ' Maker.

7 For he is the ' Lord our ' God : and we are the people of his pasture, and the ' sheep of' his '

hand.

8 To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden ' not your ' hearts : as in the provocation, and as in

the day of temp'tation ' in the ' wilderness;

9 When your ' fathers ' tempted ' me : ' proved me and ' saw my ' works.

10 Forty years long was I grieved with this gene'ration and ' said : It is a people that do err in

their hearts, for they ' have not ' known my ' ways;

11 Unto whom I' sware’ in my ' wrath : that they should not' enter ' into my ' rest.

Glory be to the Father, and ' to the ' Son : and ' to the ' Holy ' Ghost; As it was in the

beginning, is now and ' ever ' shall be : world without' end.' A'men.
