My year as an intern at London Sport
Over the last ten months I have been the Marketing and CommunicationsIntern at London Sport. With only a few months left of this fantastic
internship I have looked back at some of my favourite projects and eventsfrom the year.
If you’re a university graduate, or a sandwich-year student, interested injoining London Sport, check out our current intern vacancies here.
Active London, September 2018
In the first couple of weeks of my placement I was immediately part of theActive London event working group, an event that brought togetherstakeholders to share discussions and ideas on how we can get more peopleactive. It was great being involved in the promotion as well as the onsitedelivery of this event so early on in my placement. Taking part in the sunriserooftop yoga was a particular highlight.
Big ideas group, November 2018
Another project that I enjoyed in my year at London Sport was being a part ofthe BIG Ideas Group. This project puts you into small groups and encouragesblue sky thinking into ways we can get more people active. Not only was thisa great creative project that allowed me to develop my presentations skills,my team also went on to win the pitch to the external judges.
London Sport Awards, March 2019
If I had to choose my favourite moment from the year it would have to be TheLondon Sport Awards. The marketing and communications team, of which I’mpart, worked on the London Sport Awards for nearly six months deciding thetheme, building shortlists, selling tickets and creating an inspiring eveningcelebrating activity champions in London. It was incredible to see the wholeevent come together and be such an amazing success.
Facebook workshop, April 2018
As part of a new digital marketing pilot where London Sport are encouragingolder adults to join walking groups through Facebook advertising, I got theopportunity to attend a workshop at the Facebook head office. The day hadsome incredible insights as well as the opportunity to see the impressiveoffices.
Themed Briefing, May 2019
The House of Sport holds a themed briefing every month - each with adifferent theme aimed at sharing knowledge and best practice with theresidents here. I got the opportunity to organise one of the briefings on thepower of volunteering where I organised speakers from Parkrun, LondonYouth and Goodgym.
Sports clubs, House of Sport
One of the perks of working in a building filled with sporting organisationsmeans people are always up for a lunch time activity. From netball to footballto baseball they have been a great way of meeting people from differentorganisations and breaking up a day in the office.
