ABOUT

Visit the Cyclorama next door to Atlanta's

historic Grant Park you can see artifacts of the

war which are displayed in this amazing Civil

War Museum. Just a few of the many things

you’ll see are the steam locomotive known as

the Texas, a veteran of the Great Locomotive

Chase of 1862.

My favorite, was a journey through time in the

center of a panorama of the Battle of Atlanta,

fought on July 22, 1864, during the American

Civil War.

The painting is 42 feet tall and 358 feet long —

it is the 2 largest painting in the world. The

story of the Civil War was told by an excellent

tour guide who had a degree in History.

1862

The first thing I noticed was the

steam locomotive Texas, and it was

part of the Great Locomotive chase

of 1862, it’s also called the

Andrews’ Raid. The Texas was

used by the Confederates to get

back the locomotive General that

was stolen by James J. Andres who

led the Union Raiders. The raiders

planned to tear up the tracks to put

an end to the Western and Atlantic

railroad supply between Atlanta and

Chattanooga. The General can be

seen at the Kennesaw Civil War

museum in Marietta, GA
