paintings from quirky and talented locals. Have a cocktail

at the infinity pool bar at Anantara Phuket before heading

to a wine tasting in their hypnotically lit cellar. Go to the

White Box Restaurant for a trendy Thai-Mediterranean

meal in architectural splendor. Drive down Millionaire

Mile and choose Surin Beach as your spot of leisure.

MERGUI ISLANDSEight hundred islands make up the Mergui archipelago

of Burma. Many of them are unpopulated, untouched,

and incredible. The tranquil waters are dotted with Sea

Gypsies diving, fishing, and bartering. The Sea Gypsies,

also known as the “Morken”, are people who are ex-

perts in all that is aquatic. Their villages are a sight of won-

der and if you are lucky, they may show you some tricks

of their trade. Along with the magic of caves and tropi-

cal forests, these islands are a real-world Neverland.

ANDAMAN ISLANDS & NICOBAROver 500 islands fuse their magnificence and mystery to

shape the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A heritage of in-

digenous tribes and colonial rule threads an interesting

ing over an enchanted utopia. Corals rise up like steeples

take your time and let the sea creatures show you

the way.

LANGKAWILangkawi is the exciting main island of a striking 99-is-

land archipelago on Malaysia’s west coast. Retreat from

the crystalline waters onto the pearly sands, then onward

into the lush jungle to find paddy fields within. Before you

island hop from one sanctuary to the next, you must

take a cable car ride up to the Langkawi Sky Bridge. It

is one of the world’s best viewing platforms, reaching

from one dense mountaintop to another, over a jaw-

dropping gorge. Get yourself grounded again at Pantai

Pasir Hitam, otherwise known as Black Beach. The

opaque shoreline is something you haven’t wandered

before.
