INTRODUCTION This portfolio contains information about Educational Technology. This includes a lot of information that will be surely useful not only for the teachers but more importantly to the students. Through this portfolio you can explore and expand your ideas about Educational Technology.

Hi! My name is Anne Joshua

Bautista third year student,

currently taking Bachelor of Secondary

Education major in English at Cavite State University-

Main Campus. And this is my portfolio.

Educational Technology in a

NutshellDale’s Cone of Experience

Page 7: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

What is the Cone of Experience?

•First introduced in Dale’s 1946 book, Audio-Visual Methods in Teaching.

•Designed to “show the progression of learning experiences” from the concrete to the abstract

Page 8: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

What is the Cone of Experience?•The Cone of Experience is a visual model, a pictorial device that presents bands of experience arranged according to degree of abstraction and not degree of difficulty. The farther you go from the bottom of the cone, the more abstract the experience becomes.

Page 9: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Direct and Purposeful Experience Direct, First hand Experience Have a direct participation in the

outcome Use of all our senses

Page 10: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Contrived Experience Models and mock-ups “editing of reality” Necessary when real experience cannot be

used or are too complicated

Page 11: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Demonstration Visualized explanation of an important

fact, idea, or process Shows how certain things are done

Page 12: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Dramatized Experience Reconstructed experiences Can be used to simplify an event or idea to

its most important parts Divided into two categories

Acting – actual participation (more concrete) Observing – watching a dramatization take place (more

abstract)

Field Trips Watch people do things in real situations Observe an event that is unavailable in

the classroom

Page 13: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Recordings, Radio and Still PicturesCan often be understood by those who cannot readHelpful to students who cannot deal with the

motion or pace of a real event or television

Visual Symbols No longer involves reproducing real situations Chalkboard and overhead projector the most

widely used media Help students see an idea, event, or process

Computer-assisted Instruction (CAI)• CAI computer learning should not stop with the drill and practice activities of students in effect, CAI work best in reinforcing learning trough repetitive exercise such that student can practice basic skills or knowledge in various subject areas. Common types of drill and practice programs include vocabulary building, math facts, and basic science, and history or geography facts.

Page 16: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

SIMULATION PROGRAMS•  Simulation software materials are another kind of software that is constructivist in nature.• Teacher strategies and rules applied to real-life problems/situation.•Allow students to manipulate elements of a model and get the experience of the effect of their decisions.

Page 17: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

•While relating to low level learning objectives (e.g. basic spelling or math skills), instructional computer games add the elements of competition and challenge.

INSTRUCTIONAL GAMES

•These are more sophisticated than the drill and practice exercises and allow students to learn and improve on their own problem solving ability.

PROBLEM SOLVING SOFTWARE

MULTIMEDIA ENCYCLOPEDIA ANDELECTRONIC BOOKS

•Electronic books provide textual information for reading supplemented by other types of multimedia information (sounds, spoken words, pictures, animation). These are useful for learning reading, spelling and word skills. Examples are Just Grandma and Me animated storybook which offer surprises for the young learner’s curiosity.

COMPUTER AS A TOOL

Page 20: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

The computer can provide vast amounts of information in various forms such as text, graphics, sound and video. The internet itself provides an enormous database from which user can access global information resources that includes the latest news whether forecast airline schedules, sports development, news entertainment and features as well as educational information. Along the constructivist’s point of view, it is not enough for learners to download relevant information using the computer as an information tool.

Computer as Informative Tool.

Page 21: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Computer as a Communication Tool

The computer itself can be used for manipulating information, visualizing understanding and building new knowledge.

Students can use co-constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge.

Computer asCo-constructive Tool

Page 22: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Computer as aSituating Tool

The computer can create 3d images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment. A flight simulation program is an example of a situating tool which placed by the user in a simulated flying environment.

To caution users, the computer as a situating tool is news and still undergoing further research and development

Learning Through EdTech1 and

Edtech2

Page 24: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Technology can become the wings that will allow the educational world to

fly farther and faster than ever before, only if

we allow it.

Page 25: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Teaching with the aid of modern technology helps our

students to develop their creativity. Through EDTC we can be able to bring the best

out of our students.

STUDENT AFTER

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Page 27: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

After the Educational Technology has been thought, the ideas, knowledge , and thought we have learned will surely help us to be a better individual in the field we have chosen. Through educational technology the students aim for learning not just merely in obtaining high grades. The students were able to developed their creativity and undeveloped intelligences through hands on activities. Educational Technology made the teaching and learning process easier. And as the technology improves, the educational quality also improves.

Page 28: My Portfolio in EDTC (ajb)

Indeed, technology plays a vital role in the field of education. But it should be made clear that the computer will never replace a teacher. It just takes over other responsibilities of the teacher.

Technology is just an instrument. We, teachers and future teachers are still the drivers of their vehicles towards their futures and dreams.
