The use of blues and greens really capture your attention when looking at the poster, the colours also blend very well together which makes the poster look more complete, the greens in the background have a hint of blue so that they can merge together. The characters used in the poster are the main characters, the biggest being Totoro’. He is the biggest, after all this film is all about him! This fuzzy creature is the largest thing in the poster which late the viewer know that the film is about him. He also looks very strange as he is using an umbrella in bright sunlight which makes the viewer wonder why. It’s also rather strange as he has a leaf on top on his head, which is also rather weird, which is quite conventional to Japanese films. The title of the film is in clear bold font that stands out against the background, the name of the main character ‘ Totoro’ is slightly larger than the rest of the title to let the viewer know that this film is about him.

Again like the English version of the poster, bright colours that ‘pop’ are used such as the girls umbrella and totoro’s leaf. These pop out of the poster and attract a viewers attention. The Japanese poster looks a bit mysterious as it has a mainly gloomy background and totoro looks a bit freaky as his eyes really contrast with the background. The title of the film is wrote in pink as it stands out against the background and almost blends in with the girls umbrella.

Its similar in style to the English version as it is very cartoony, it has been drawn in a manga style, these are basically Japanese comic books.
