A Note From The President

TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN! BOY, I must have had lots of fun in 2012 because it sure did go fast. We had a very busy and fun-filled year, starting in January with a visit to the AutoBarn Classic Cars in Concord, NC. In February, we visited the Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville, NC, and in March we were back at the AutoBarn Classic Cars for another visit and meeting. In April, we all enjoyed a rain-filled weekend at the Spring AutoFair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. On May 12th, our Club attended the Piedmont MOPAR Fun Run Car Show at the Farmington Dragway for a fun-filled day of MOPAR show cars and racing. In June, we were off to Cody Creek and the Depot Restaurant for good food, fellowship and a very hot day. July brought us to Kannapolis, NC, and the Kannapolis Cruise-In with many beautiful cars to be seen. On August 25th, we had a planning meeting for our annual Car Show at the North Carolina Transportation Museum, and September 8th was our Car Show at the Transportation Museum (the weather was not so good so our show car numbers were less than we had hoped for). The last of September we were again at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Fall AutoFair where the weather was great and the MOPAR cars were, as always, beautiful. This past month (October), we held our Fall Tour in Kannapolis, China Grove, and Salisbury (more information in this newsletter). Our November/December activity will be the Appreciation Dinner at the Faith American Legion

building in Faith, NC (my hometown). As you can see, we did many things as a Club, and if you were unable to make it to any or all these events then you missed lots of fun things, but there is always next year.

As you can see in our Future Meetings and Activities section, we have not set up any activities at this time for 2013. This is YOUR Club and we would love your input. At the Appreciation Dinner on December 1 this is one item we will be talking

about. So get your thoughts together and bring them to this meeting or email me at [email protected].

October was a very busy month for me with many activities including several car outings. On the 7th, our Club was invited by the Mid-Carolina AACA Club on their Fall Tour. I attended this tour and will have more information on it in a later newsletter.

On October the 26 – 28, the Goodguys group was at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This was the same weekend as our Fall Tour. I attended this event on Friday, the 26th, and had a very good time. I saw and talked with several Club members who were taking part in the Goodguys event (I only wish they could have taken Saturday afternoon off to attend our Club Fall Tour). I met two different guys whose families owned a Chrysler/Plymouth and a Dodge dealership in different towns in New York State. Barry Ward’s father owned the Chrysler/Plymouth dealership from 1924 until 1976, and Bob Meyer’s family owned the Dodge dealership in the ’60s and ’70s. We all had a good long talk about the early ’60s Plymouths as Barry is the owner of a very nice 1962 Plymouth. Bob is looking for an early ’60s Plymouth, and I hope both guys will become members of the POC. Below are a few pictures that I took on my Friday visit.

On the 27th, as Hurricane Sandy was beating up the coast of North Carolina, we held our Fall Tour in Kannapolis, China Grove, and Salisbury, NC. With a High pressure moving in from the West and Hurricane Sandy moving North up the coast of North Carolina, we were right in the middle with cloudy / windy but dry conditions which made for a great day for out Fall Tour. We started the day with a visit to the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in Kannapolis. Eddie Ray was our tour guide and a great one at that. Eddie has been in the music business all his life and his knowledge is unbelievable. Folks, if you missed this one then you missed a great visit with Eddie and the NC Hall of Fame (Eddie has such a great love for music that you can just feel it coming out as he talks). More information can be had by visiting their website at: http://northcarolinamusichalloffame.org.

After leaving the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame we traveled just a few blocks to the Mike Curb Motorsports Museum. Mike was also in the music business but he also loves motorsports. He was also a former Lieutenant Governor of California. He has owned or sponsored cars driven by stars such as Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Greg Biffle, Dale Jarrett, Johnny Sauter and others who have competed for more than 40 years in NASCAR and other major motorsports events including the Indianapolis 500. More information can be had by visiting their website at: http://www.mikecurb.com/motorsports/museum.cfm?PAGE=097 . Below are some pictures taken at the Mike Curb Motorsports Museum.

After completing our tour of Curb Motorsports Museum we cruised as a group to Gary’s BBQ in China Grove. Gary’s is a well-known restaurant that has a wide choice of good old Southern food including Carolina BBQ. Gary’s has been in the same location for many years and is a favorite for many mid-Carolina fans. Below are a few pictures taken while at Gary’s.

Ok, what better way to conclude our Fall Tour day than to top it off with some good old Dairy Queen ice cream? We cruised North on US 29 for about 10 miles to the Salisbury Dairy Queen. This is an older Dairy Queen that was built in 1950 and is still doing business out of the same building. The ice cream is great but GIRLS, don’t look for the bathroom as they do not have one (remember this is a 1950s building)! Below are some pictures taken as we conclude our Fall Tour with beautiful Fall leaves, beautiful cars and beautiful people.

Our next outing will be the Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, December 1st. We need a good head count for the food so PLEASE reply back to me at [email protected] and let me know how many will be in your party. Till we all meet again, remember to keep those old Plymouths running and on the road. God Bless you all.

MIKE BUCKEL

Of The RAMCHAGER GANG

Back on May 22, 2010, our Club hosted the Ramcharger Seminar with Mike Buckel. The last two-plus years Mike has been writing monthly articles for another Club newsletter and he has given me the OK to reprint them in the Carolina Plymouth Power newsletter. Thanks, Mike, for your most gracious offer. These are most interesting and will start in next month’s newsletter.

Rozell, Dean & Tanya Yates and Bobby & Chris Seymour. *Note: While we were going up the highway, a Plymouth Neon was going up in the lane beside us; as it got beside each car it slowed down and got a good look at our cars.

This month I have a Road Runner and a Wile E. Coyote bobblehead set made by FunKo LLC in China. Unlike the spelling for the Plymouth Roadrunner, the cartoon character uses two words for Road Runner. I received this set as a Christmas gift a few years back.If you have any toys or unusual stuff, just send me a picture and a few lines on what it is and I will try to get it in our newsletter. .
