Biography Sting was born on October 2, 1951 in Newcastle-

upon-Tyne, a large industrial city in northern England. His real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Samir. His mother had a musical education. She taught her son to the wonderful world of music by teaching him to play the piano from his childhood. After meager wages for his work on the road and as a musical teacher Sting had an opportunity to move to London and play professionally. An American drummer Stewart Copeland noticed him, and persuaded him to do rock. He got the nickname "Sting" because he loved to wear black sweaters in a gold stripe, which made him look like a bumblebee.

Favourite

My favourite song is “Englishman In New York”.

Sting wrote this song about himself, about his life

in the USA.

Some lines from it :

I don’t drink coffee I take tea, my dear,

I like my toast done on the side

And you can hear it in my accent when I talk

I'm an Englishman in New York
