Neptune
Neptune’s History• Neptune was discovered by Johann
Gottfried Galle on September 23 1846.He discovered it in the Berlin Observatory.
• Neptune was named after the god of the sea (Neptune) then was associated by Poseidon.
Facts and Figures• If Neptune was hollow it could contain nearly
60 Earths!• Neptune orbits the sun every 165 Earth years.• It has 13 moons, 6 of which were discovered by
the VOYAGER.VOYAGER.• Some of the names of the moons are :• Despina, Nereid, Galatea, Proteus, Larissa,
Thalassa, Naiad, Triton and 5 other smaller moons.
• A day on Neptune is 16 hours and 6.7 minutes.
More Facts and Figures• Neptune has the strongest winds in the whole of the
solar system. Its wind can blow up to 700m/sec.• Since it was discovered in 1846 it hasn’t completed a
whole orbit since then!• Unlike Uranus, which is almost perfectly blue,
Neptune has white clouds which were created by the heat from inside the planet.
• One of its moons, Triton, is the only moon that moves BACKWARDS!BACKWARDS!
• Triton, one of Neptune’s moons, is the coldest place in the solar system. It has surface temperatures of -236°C Celsius!!
