Caves/ Porto wine• Port wine is a Portuguese fortified wine produced exclusively in the Douro
Valley in the northern provinces of Portugal. It is typically a sweet, red wine, often served as a dessert wine, and comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties.
• The reaches of the valley of the Douro River in northern Portugal have a microclimate that is optimal for cultivation of olives, almods, and especially grapes important for making the famous Port wine
The Maria Pia bridge (Ponte Maria Pia), commonly known as Ponte Dona Maria, is a railway bridge built in 1877 by Gustave Eiffel.
The bridge was built to avoid a 12 km detour, and started on 5 January 1876 and completed on 4 November 1877.
In recent years, UNESCO recognised its historic centre as a World Heritage Site.
The later Ponte de Dom Luiz replaced the Ponte Pênsil. This last bridge was made by Teophile Seyirg, a former partner of Eiffel.
