• It sets the scene for the rest of the film

• The music fits in with the genre of film

• It is interesting and fun

• The whole opening scene follows the normal protocol of a horror

• It establishes the storyline

• Suits the genre of film that it is

• The dull/muted sounds in the background help to set the scene
