Material? Where can we get it from?

Why are we using it?

Trash can Already got After the interval the street gets trashed. So in act 1 there will not be a trash can but in act 2 there will and with litter scattered across the set. We have chosen this to give the effect of the aftermath of a riot. I would like it to be silver and placed beside the door and the bin linear hanging out to make it look rough which is really appropriate for the state of the scene.

Bin liners Asda After the interval the street gets trashed. So in act 1 there will not be a bin liners but in act 2 there will and with litter scattered across the set. We have chosen this to give the effect of the aftermath of a riot. I would like the trash to be pouring out over the flat to make it seem like a younger person within the community has kicked it over in anger.

Pipe B&Q / Homebase

I our research we have seen drainpipes separating the apartments. But we have decided to give the effect that ivy is growing up it to give the effect of a “run down” area.

Ivy Outside I love the ideas of vines of the side of the building but I would also like them entwined round the ladder and the balcony also I would like it hanging over the side to make it look over grown and old so it looks more realistic and nice. Also I would make sure that the ivy is real and not painted so it adds to the realistic. In our research we have seen drainpipes separating the apartments. But we have decided to give the effect that ivy is growing up it to give the effect of a “run down” area. I would like it wrapped around the drain pipe.

paint (black,brown,yellow,orange, green,red,blue,white,grey, purple)

B&Q / Homebase / Hobbycraft

I have taken bits of this design of how the brick is a different colour to the actually building so that it’s not completely painted and looks really busy but still looks like a building and looks very rusty and older like Manhattan at the time. Paint for the graffiti as well I want graffiti writing within my design to represent the culture and the vibrant lifestyle of the area but also it can represent the language and artistic lifestyle of the character but also the gritty lifestyle. I think the different colours of these are bright and vibrant and will stand

out against the brick wall. I would like it to say rap within the graffiti though to represent the culture of how rap started within the play and to show the culture. In act 1, scene 1 Graffiti Pete is painting graffiti. From looking at the designs we have learnt that they are very colourful. So the vast amount of colour is needed to make aesthetically pleasing.

Spray cans Hobbycraft We need paint spray cans because in act 1, scene 1 Graffiti Pete is painting graffiti. "GRAFFITI PETE is revealed painting various walls."

Flowers Florist / outside When analysing the characters we found that they have South America backgrounds and in South America they grow lots of fruit. So we thought that flowers/ plants in a window box would support the characters backgroundAlso I would like them hanging in a basket and maybe also entwined within the ivy and moss.I may use some tissue paper for making the different flowers.

Window box (plywood) When analysing the characters we found that they have South America backgrounds and in South America they grow lots of fruit. So we thought that flowers/ plants in a window box would support the characters background

Door numbers Lasercutter / Poundshop / Timpsons

We need door numbers because above the salon and the shop. I know this because in act 1, scene 12 “Usnavi enters his flat

Sand paper Already got We need sandpaper to give the door numbers an old look because the neighbourhood is quite poor and the street gets trashed at the end of act 1

Moss / Vines Outside In our research previous sets have been dirtied down to give the effect of a “run down” area. Our design

has taken this into account. It will also make my set look much more realistic if I use really moss that I have gone out an found to use.

Washing line Asda / borrow I have included a washing line within my design because it shows the community and the love of family within the area and I would like to put gritty 90’s clothes on there to help show how they are not an upper class society and the context of the play. We need clothes because in act 1, scene 8 it says “Women are folding clothes”. Also in our research we have seen people hanging washing out.

Pegs Asda / borrow We need clothes because in act 1, scene 8 it says “Women are folding clothes”. Also in our research we have seen people hanging washing out.

Sugar paper Asda We need sugar paper so we can create a smashed window. The street gets trashed at the end of act 1 and it’s visible at the start of act 2. [Act 2, scene 1]

Clothes Already got We need clothes because in act 1, scene 8 it says “Women are folding clothes” These will add to the realism of the set and also need to relate to my context research of the play to make the clothes from the time period.

Fire escape (Wood) B&Q I have taken the ideas of the fire escape ladders from this picture to make my design seem much more realistic. I also want them to look weathered and rusty so that they fit in with the down trodden vibes of the play. We are using the wood to make a fire

escape as it would be too time consuming to make out of metal. Also it would be too flimsy to make out of card. So we will make it out of wood. Act 2 scene 2 is called the Rosario fire escape.
