A person cannot be described in one word, phrase, paragraph or even an entire novel. People

develop differently and continue to change in many ways through the course of their lives.

With each coming year I have acquired many skills and personality traits. I was not born with the personality I posses today.

Today I am a very lively, happy, strong, diligent, artistic, funny, creative and imaginative person. I have always looked at things differently than other people. Many people follow trends or leaders but I have always been independent and thought on my own.

Some of my skills consist of writing, drawing, painting, and reading, organizing, and solving problems. I am a unique person and I am confident in my skills.

Page 3: My Career Project

I have many goals for my future including some short term goals and some long term goals.

Short Term Goals: In a year I hope to have a GPA of a 4.0 or higher

and be the editor of Penumbra. I would also like to have an internship and work at the local animal shelter. I hope next year I will be swimming and exercising daily.

Long Term Goals:I hope that in five years I will be in college and

working part-time. Hopefully I have studied abroad at least once by then and I would like to be living away from home in a dorm with my own car. I would read and go out with friends when I have spare time.

In ten years I would like to have acquired a masters degree and have become fluent in at least three languages other than English.

My learning styles are visual, auditory and kinesthetic or tactile. Usually a person will only prefer one of these styles of learning but I use each one to learn.

When I say that I am a visual learner, it means that I learn by making mental images and that I like to use diagrams or illustration to reinforce my learning.

Being an auditory learner means that listening and participating in discussions help me to further educate myself.

Finally being a tactile or kinesthetic learner means that by doing hands-on activities and performing multiple tasks assist me in my learning process.

Some careers that are associated with these three styles of learning are a graphic designer for visual learning, a translator for auditory learning and an actor for tactile learning.

Two work values that are important to me are independence and achievement.

Independence is something that I have always cherished. Since I was young I have done most things independently. This does not mean that I cannot get along with others but that I prefer and work best when I am alone. I will need to look for jobs that will allow me to work and make decisions on my own. Some careers that would allow me to continue to value independence are foreign language teachers and animal trainers.

These are my foundation building blocks that will serve as the foundation for my career. These traits and skills will help me in my future careers.

Being a good listener means that I am good at taking notes and visualizing what I hear.

Thinking creatively means that I use my imagination quite a lot, I try new methods when I do something, and I have different points of view.

Having good self-management means that I like to make future goals and schedules for myself.

In the future I hope to develop more foundation building blocks such as negotiation, decision-making, and leadership.

My Holland Code is:

A I S

This means that I am mainly artistic, I like to investigate and I am a social type.

As a translator you must interpret written, oral, or sign language text As a translator you must interpret written, oral, or sign language text into another language for othersinto another language for others..

Being a translator requires self-expression and it involves working with forms.

A translator must proofread, edit, and revise translated materials. They also must adapt translations to students’ specific grade levels.

You need to be able to talk to others to convey information efficiently and you must be able to adjust actions in relations to others’ actions.

Most occupations require a four-year bachelor’s degree but some do not.  In New York, translators are paid $37,700 per year at first but more

experienced translators are paid $69,580 per year.

This occupation matches my code because with the code AIS it means that I am social and I like to investigate. Becoming a translator means I would have to investigate to learn new languages and be social to communicate those languages well with others.

A foreign language teacher is a social occupation and involves working, communicating, and teaching people.

A foreign language teacher must evaluate students’ class work, assignments, and papers.

You should be able to instruct and speak well in front of others In order to become a foreign language teacher you acquire a bachelor’s

degree or a higher level degree.  A foreign language teacher in New York is paid $40,740 per year but the

pay increases with experience to $94,370 per year. This job matches mainly the social part of my Holland code because each

day I would need to interact with students and other teachers. It matches the I in my code because in order to learn languages fully I would need to learn more about culture. Language is very artistic as well.

People with blue Interests like job responsibilities and occupations that involve creative, humanistic, thoughtful, and quiet types of activities. Blue Interests include abstracting, theorizing, designing, writing, reflecting, and originating, which often lead to work in editing, teaching, composing, inventing, mediating, clergy, and writing.

People with yellow styles perform their job responsibilities in a manner that is orderly and planned to meet a known schedule. They prefer to work where things get done with a minimum of interpretation and unexpected change. People with a yellow style tend to be orderly, cautious, structured, loyal, systematic, solitary, methodical, and organized, and usually thrive in a research-oriented, predictable, established, controlled, measurable, orderly environment. You will want to choose a work environment or career path in which your style is welcomed and produces results.

Writers usually research a certain topic in order to develop their work more thoroughly. They can work from home or in an office and most writers rather write about personal topics but a lot of more advanced writers are assigned different topics by editors. Writers work on drafts or manuscripts and send them to their editors to check for errors or to see if revisions are needed.

Currently there are more writers than there are assignments. Writers usually always depend on other sources of income to support themselves. There are likely going to be more jobs in commercial writing because commercial venues are always expanding. Electronic publishing has increased and even more jobs will appear for writers in the future.

There are many majors that could come in handy for a writer. Such as, philosophy, English, American literature, creative writing, government, ethnic studies, and countless more.

Photographers take pictures of many subjects including people, animals, landscape, and events. They try to capture and induce mood and feeling. Photography is artistic and technical.

Photography is needed in many areas such as entertainment, marketing, or research. It is clear that there will constantly be a need for skilled and practiced photographers.

There are numerous majors that would be useful for someone fascinated by photography. Such as, photography, radio and television, film, journalism, illustration, photojournalism, and more.

An artist makes works of art, typically alone. Artists strive to convey a certain meaning or vision in their work.

Art has been a great part of culture and always will be. In the future artists will only have to worry about funding. Many fresh forms of art have been appearing but the traditional forms will always linger. The potential for art is always uncertain because no one can actually know how much support artists will gain.

Some majors associated art are ceramics, film, crafts, art history, painting, drawing, graphic design, music and many more.
