Globalization Activity 26 Sep. – 2 Oct. 2016

Globalization:

PROS CONS

1. Once upon a time, nations were

not able to trade freely with one

another, due to all the barriers that

stood in their way.

1. While there are a variety of

benefits, countries have struggled

with certain globalization concepts.

2. Consumers can lower their costs

and enjoy a much wider selection of

products to choose from.

2. Economists have argued that

developing countries are at

increased risk of being left behind.

3. The companies have greater

access to more countries, which

allows them to sell their goods and

services to wholesale retailers all

around the world.

3. The free movement of labor also

has its downsides. When workers

can move freely from one nation to

the next, countries that have a

dearth of job opportunities often

struggle.

4. A nation the opportunity to hone

in on their strengths, while ignoring

their weaknesses.

4. For countries that rely on public

funding for their secondary

educational system, this can be

disastrous.

5. Workers can move from country

to country with relative ease and

market their skills, goods and

services to the highest worldwide

bidder.

5. Larger companies have learned

how to leverage globalization for

their own personal gain.

Page 6: My Career Outlook Report 2016

6. This allow for a rising sense of

global civics, the notion that we

have certain rights and

responsibilities towards each other

by the mere fact of being human on

Earth

6. The environment impact of

globalization is negative by most

experienced observers.

7. globalization will help us to raise

the global economy only when the

involved power blocks have mutual

trust and respect for each other’s

opinion.

7. Greater cultural hegemony is

benefit, but countries are beginning

to lose their identities due to

immigration that is taking place on

a progressively larger scale.

Global opportunity Activity:

1. China 2. Eire 3. France

2. China: I will create a building material trading company. China is my

hometown, so I have lot of friends, and my family will help me.

Eire: I want to be an author because Eire is writing resort.

France: I will open a café shop in France because there are so romance.

3. Communication skill, visa, family resource, relationship, writing skill.

Dear Manager,

First, I am very grateful to the company every opportunity to me. However,

at this moment, I asked for my job performance and salary adjustment

accordingly.

I don't require changes to the title, but I hope in the field of purchasing the

position, and competitive compared with others. Salary in this field now is

2500 yuan to 5000 dollars a month. My salary is relatively low.

In summary, I ask the salary adjustment to 3800 / per month. Because I have

a variety of functions and positions, this also save a large sum of money for

the company. I believe that I absolutely is the assets of the company, and will

ETHICS AND CSR PROJECT 31 OCT. – 6 NOV. 2016

1. What is unethical business practice?

Unethical business practice is about actions that do not

conform to acceptable standards of business operations,

failing to do what is right in every situation.

2. What is CSR in business?

CSR is stand for Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR in

business means companies’ key areas of concern are

environmental protection and the wellbeing of employees,

the community and civil society in general, both now and in

the future.

3. Unethical Companies behaviors.

Chevron, once part of the Standard Oil empire, has grown

over the past quarter century into the world’s fourth

largest petroleum company. However, a federal agency said

that there had been some 880 violations of pollution laws at

the facility since 1981.

In December 2013, the Utah Department of

Environmental Quality announced that Chevron Pipe

Line would pay $5.35 million to settle violations

connected to a diesel fuel spill near Willard Bay State

Park the previous March

Page 14: My Career Outlook Report 2016

Chevron reported that as of the end of 2011 it had been

identified as a potentially responsible party at about

180 Superfund toxic waste sites in the United States.

In April 2010, at least 18,000 gallons of oil

were spilled into the waters of the Delta National

Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana because of an accident

involving a pipeline owned by a joint venture of Chevron

and British Petroleum.

Things need to be done to prevent and handle the unethical

dilemma in the future.

As our company, has been fined so many times during last 30

years, I think we need to put more money to new technology

investment. Instead of polluting the environment and being

fined by governments, we would better to invest some new

technologies to prevent this situation.

FOR YOUR CSR COMPANY…

Answer the following questions:

Scenario: You are the new CSR Consultants hired to

implement CSR initiatives for your company.

1. What did your company do in the past that was CSR?

We changed the product’s materials for protecting

environment and reduce natural resources.

Page 15: My Career Outlook Report 2016

2. What were the outcomes of their actions?

The product sells more and more besides save more

cost.

3. What is one CSR initiative your company could offer to the

company?

We can care employee’s workplace and make plans for

improving them positive & creative when they work.

Part 3: Ethics and CSR Project:

Many businesses recognize the importance of being

socially and environmentally conscious, and will often

advertise charitable initiatives, such as annual fundraisers

for a cause, or a volunteer project their staff worked on.

But companies that incorporate social responsibility into

their business model prove that a dedication to these

initiatives goes a long way, both for the cause and their

reputation. I will make the promotion like that when the

consumer donates food or clothes to families or place

with material difficulties, I will get them 20%off. When

Page 16: My Career Outlook Report 2016

the consumer buy the products, I will donate 10% of

profit to families or place with material difficulties.

However, times have changed, and now employees

demand that their company do more than simply not be

bad. They need to do good, too. According to Forbes:

32% of employees would seriously consider leaving their

job if their company gave no / little money to charity;

65% would seriously consider leaving their job if their

company harmed the environment; 83% would seriously

consider leaving their job if their employer used child

labor in sweatshop factories. Because that, if your

company is a CSR company. then you will get lot skill

people to help you. Reputation is one of a company’s

most important assets, and one of the most difficult to

rebuild should it be lost. Upholding the promises, it has

made is crucial to maintaining that reputation. This level

of Business Ethics is the most commendable and should

be something all companies strive for currently, so that

higher standards can be achieved for all in the future.

Page 17: My Career Outlook Report 2016

1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them

anyway.

2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior

motives. Do good anyway.

3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good

anyway.

5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and

frank anyway.

6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot

down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.

Think big anyway.

7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a

few underdogs anyway.

8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

9. People really need help but man attack you if you do help them.

Help people anyway.

10. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the

teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

Plan, direct, or coordinate one or more administrative services of an organization, such as records

and information management, mail distribution, facilities planning and maintenance, custodial

operations, and other office support services.

General and Operations Managers

Plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of public or private sector organizations. Duties and

responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of

materials and human resources, but are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one

functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing, or administrative

services.

Real Estate Brokers

Operate real estate office, or work for commercial real estate firm, overseeing real estate

transactions. Other duties usually include selling real estate or renting properties and arranging
