Russia Did you know that Russia is the largest nation in the world? It is almost twice as large as Canada and stretches from the Pacific Ocean in the east into Europe in the west. It covers eleven time zones and touches fourteen other countries. It is home to more than 142 million people who speak more than 130 languages. It is also home to Europe’s longest river, the Volga, and the world’s deepest lake, Lake Baikal. Russia was founded hundreds of years ago and had many different governments. The country of Russia today became independent in 1991.
Russia is divided into 46 provinces (called oblasts), 21 republics, and several other types of regions. It also stretches over two continents, Europe and Asia. Many natural resources are found in Russia, including large amounts of oil, natural gas, coal, timber, and important minerals.

I hope you’ve enjoyed visiting four of the many cities in Russia! Before you leave
to go home, could I ask you to do something special for the people here? There are a
lot of people in Russia who believe in Jesus, but there are many, many people who do
not. It was even illegal to tell someone about Jesus during a difficult time in Russia’s
past. Some say that at least one-third of the people still need to understand how
much Jesus loves them. That’s tens of millions of people who need to know about Him.
Will you remember to pray for the people of Russia? Here are a few things you
can pray for. You can add more prayer requests to the list as you think of them!
Pray that people will have Bibles to read in whatever language they speak.
Pray that people will have what they need to stay healthy and warm.
Pray for the people living in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, and every city and town to believe in Jesus.
