This is your chance to bring up anything you want considered. We are looking for volun- teers to make up the next Gathering Committee, and probably also need some volunteers for the October car show. If you can't attend and have issues for discussion, send an email to Kelly or I and we will bring them up for you. If we are a Corvette Club (or Association), then why is it so difficult to get somebody to volunteer to be the Ambassador to the National Corvette Museum? Larry 1

2011 OFFICERS

Seems like I'm always just muttering away – just ask my cat!

The summer is seemingly leaving us ever so slowly, and I suppose I can't go into hiber-

nation like I do each winter since I now seem to be the position of trying to direct this

herd of cats – I mean Corvette Club members. I have been wondering (ever since the

Jacksonville Corvette Club told us that they hold monthly BUSINESS (Holy Crap!)

meetings) if we have any business to conduct on a monthly schedule. It has occurred to

me that since I cannot out shout all those noisy customers in the various restaurants that

we to go, that it may be beneficial to hold meetings specifically for the purpose of dis-

cussing club business, so I muttered into the secretary's ear regarding this, and she did

some muttering back. Anyway, to shorten a short and probably worthless story, I have

been wresting with the following thoughts:

There is a portion of the club that are of the opinion that we are a Social Club and that

owning a Corvette is simply a means of gaining entry to this Club. Then there are others

that think (of which I must confess that I am one) that we are an actual Corvette Club and

that we exist to do what we can to enhance to mystique of the Corvette itself. I've been in

love with Corvettes ever since I say my first maroon '62 so many years ago in the little

town of Aberdeen, Idaho, and talked the owner into taking a 15 year old kid for a ride

that lives on in my memory to this day. I think this issue is why we have been having

difficulty in getting our Service Directory off the ground and sailing away.

So what are we? What do we aspire to be? I would like to see us hold meetings specifi-

cally to discuss the business and direction of the club. Maybe that's what the officers are

for, but member input is very important. Maybe not on a monthly business, but perhaps

at least quarterly, and more often as we approach our big club event – the Gathering.

Your current officers have held two meeting so far, mainly to figure out just what the

heck we are supposed to be doing. I'd like to see a hard core group of Corvette enthusi-

asts (or social activists) in the club get together regularly to help set the club Business –

Direction – Whatever - and assist those in charge of running this club.

With this in mind, we will be holding a business meeting for the club on the 24th of Sep-

tember at Lovezollas in Pooler. The back room has been reserved from 5:30 until 7:30.

This is your chance to bring up anything you want considered. We are looking for volun-

teers to make up the next Gathering Committee, and probably also need some volunteers

for the October car show. If you can't attend and have issues for discussion, send an

email to Kelly or I and we will bring them up for you.

If we are a Corvette Club (or Association), then why is it so difficult to get somebody to

volunteer to be the Ambassador to the National Corvette Museum?

September Cruise with Corvette Trivia and

Dinner at Mullet Bay in St. Simons Island

On Saturday, September 10, 21 Vettes met at Medicap in Georgetown. Most members were dressed patriotically. Susan and Howard Clements met us there and joined the club. We played a round of Corvette trivia, then departed for a mystery dinner location. On our way we stopped at the Smallest Church in America, located in South Newport, Ga on Highway 17. Mem-ory Park Christ Chapel was built in 1950 and measures 10 X15 and has seating for 13 people. It is open 24/7 to all denomina-tions. We played another round of Cor-vette trivia, then headed out to dinner which was revealed to be Mullet Bay in St. Simons Island. We arrived at Mullet Bay and started our next round of trivia, which we had to finish after dinner. The Jackson-ville Corvette Club met us there and we quickly filled up the restaurant and porch seating areas. 50/50 was collected and the winner was Phyllis from the Jacksonville Club taking home $123. Our trivia then continued and our newbies Curt & Su-sanne Bender won a T-shirt and were treated to ice cream. Thank you Jay and Donna Zeigler for this exciting cruise.

Vettes at the Pier

Member Spotlight…. Meet Jeff & Kelly Givens

VETTES AT THE PIER-10 CCA members ventured to St. Petersburg Labor Day weekend for "Vettes at the Pier". This is a nice show and spending the day on the pier is great. The cars are lined up at the end of the pier around a large pavilion, which has some wonderful shops and a food court AND NICE, CLEAN BATHROOMS! The view isn't too bad either. There was a custom C5 that a guy from Boston had done with a Blue Angels theme. It was all chrome under the hood with the planes embossed on it and had blue LED lights on the running boards, the engine compartment and along the floor mats. He had a large photo of the planes in flight with the #6 in it. I asked him when it was taken, and ironically, it was taken the year be-fore the crash at the Beaufort Air Show that we were all at. He also had sig-natures of the pilots on the rear spoiler and had it clear coated. The photos we took of it don't do it justice. It was gorgeous. One of our members left early to go back to the hotel prior to the awards be-ing given. Needless to say, "I don't ever win anything" JOHN CONLEY was the one and only winner from our club with his C5. Nice going, John. The hotel we stayed at again this year in downtown St. Pete lived up to our expectations. It's more like a bed and breakfast than a regular hotel and they give us a great rate. All in all, it was a good trip with great company and fan-tastic weather. So, Pat & Joe, Kim & Larry, Nancy & Monty and Cathy & John, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Pat & Bill

Jeff and I were born and raised in Ohio, we actually lived very close to each other in the city of Akron, then our families moved to Randolph, a very small county town. We both attended the same school, but never met until I got a job at Giant Eagle Super-market in 1982 where I worked in the bakery and Jeff worked in Produce. We did not begin dating until 1984 and we were plan-ning for August 1986, but it became such a hassle that we decided to elope. So when Jeff’s family had a vacation planned to Myrtle Beach in May of 1986, we got married at the courthouse and sur-prised everyone when we met up at Myrtle Beach. In 1987, Jeff’s brother and his wife Wendy lived in Savannah and invited us to stay with them while we looked for jobs, because there were plenty of jobs here (ha-ha). So we took them up on their offer and came to Savannah, I found a job at the Courthouse in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office where I still work to-day. Jeff found a job with Golden Flake and then eventually with Frito Lay. Our daughter Lauren was born in 1992, she currently attends Sa-vannah Tech studying to be a LPN. We also have a herd of Chihuahuas. Jeff and I have always been car enthusiasts, we have had approximately 50 cars and motorcycles throughout the years. When Jeff and I began dating he had a 70 Chevelle that I loved to drive. Some of our other fa-vorites have been 2 Fieros, Mustangs, V8 Vega, Porsche and 69 Camaro and of course the Vettes. We got our first Vette in July 2009 and Bill and Pat Powers invited us to check out the Club, our first outing was to Har-old’s and what a hoot that was. We have really enjoyed our time in the club and look forward to future events.
