An Origional Screenplay

INT.PRACTICEROOM.DAY

Intention: To establish the character (Lucas) and show that

he is in a band and express his love for music and expresses

his intentions to become a full time working musician. He is

not the main member of the band but is still an important

cog in the workings of one. He is 17 years old, average

height, dark hair and always wearing jeans and Convers,

overall showing he is the opposite of a flamboyant

individual.

(band getting ready for practice, bass heard with guitars

being tuned, general chatter and laughter heard)

WIDE SHOT: WHOLE BAND

CUT

ECU: BASS CABLE

CUT

MEDIUM SHOT: LUCA’S FACE

LUCAS

Hey guys how do you know when the

stage is level, the drummer’s

drooling from both sides of his

mouth.

WHOLE BAND

(laughter)

FREDDIE

Fuck off, dickhead.

FADE OUT TO BLACK

Popping is heard with a high pitched ringing

INT.ROOM.AFTERNOON

CUT TO ROOM

Intention: To establish that Lucas has lost his hearing and

is distraught about it. He is in the last stage of grief

(depression). He has not made any contact outside of his

immediate family (mum) for two months. Mike texts Lucas and

tries to motivate him to proceed with his life and tries to

get him out of the house. Mike then sends Lucas a link to a

deaf bassist on YouTube and the video inspires him to

continue his dream of being a musician.

Two months later...

WIDE SHOT: OF LUCAS WHOLE ROOM

Lucas is alone sitting on a chair. Various musical

instruments and musical related posters around the room.

WORMS EYE VIEW: UNDERNEATH THE BED

Underneath the bed is a bass and an amp along with some

leads.

CUT

MEDIUM: OF LUCAS FACING CAMERA, MUM CAN BE SEEN ENTERING

FROM OTHER END OF THE ROOM

Mum enters the room from behind holding a plate with food on

the way towards Lucas she picks up clothes and hangs them on

her arm. A buzzing sound is heard Lucas has no reaction. His

mum fixes his collar, pick’s up his phone from a side table

and taps him on the shoulder and hands him the phone.

MUM

You’ve got a message.

Lucas not looking at Mum or reacting to her comment.

MUM

(sighs)

Your foods there, ill bee

downstairs if you need me.

Mum exits the room.

CUT

CLOSE UP: THE PHONE SCREEN

MIKE

(in the form of a text)

Hey man look I get why you haven’t

been round but it’s been two months

u gotta get on with your life...

look I’m sending u a link to this

deaf guy I saw who can still play!

Text me soon mate.

WIDE SHOT: OF LUCAS ON HIS PHONE WATCHING THE DEAF BASSIST

INT.ROOM.AFTERNOON

Intention: Lucas then attempts to figure out a way of

playing music again. He pulls out his amp from beneath his

bed and plugs in, he slowly starts to play a single note, he

turns up the volume he realizes that he is able to feel the

vibrations and proves to himself that he can play again. He

realizes that if he physically touches the amp he is able to

feel the frequencies due to changes in the vibration, slowly

he starts to play more complex riffs. This change in pace

will be shown in a montage showing the passing of time.

CUT

WORMS EYE:UNDERNEATH THE BED OF BASS AND AMP

Lucas pulls out his bass and amp from underneath the bed

EXTREME CLOSE UP: AMP SWITCH

Lucas switches on the amp

CUT

MEDIUM: LUCAS WITH BASS SITTING ON HIS AMP

Lucas play’s one open note repetitively and simultaneously

turns up his amp.

CUT

MONTAGE: LEFT HAND, RIGHT HAND, FACE/HEAD, AMP

The speed of the montage goes with the complexity of the

bass and when he makes a mistake the montage stays on one

shot before starting again.

ESTABLISHING SHOT: THE WINDOW FROM OUTSIDE

(Bass sound is heard)

INT.PRACTICE ROOM.DAY

Intention: Lucas enters the practice room, is welcomed with

confused band members. He expects to be welcomed back with

open arms, however he is faced with a new member of the

band... His replacement. Mike takes Lucas aside and explains

that he hadn’t replied to him and they had no other choice,

Lucas feels betrayed and walks away both embarrassed, angry

and betrayed.

MEDIUM SHOT: lucas is plugging in and setting up his base

for practice

LUCAS:

MIKE:

well u didn’t reply to my txt i

didn’t know what i should do, weve

got a new member now.

LUCAS

Well what was the point of the

video.

MIKE

all thought u wouldn’t be able to

play again, sorry man.

LUCAS

Fuck this!

MONTAGE: LUCAS PACKING UP HIS STUFF

CUT

INT./EXT.SHOP.DAY

Intention: Whilst Lucas is on his way home he stops off at a

normal corner shop, whilst entering the shop he sees a flier

for an open mic night at a local club/bar. This motivates

Lucas to sign up in spite of his band and he rushes home

with the flier and immediate starts to practice.

FADE IN

FULL SHOT: LUCAS WALKING PAST THE SHOP

Lucas whilst walking past the shop glances in the widow

EXTREME CLOSE UP: THE FLIER

FADE OUT

(Noise of shop bell)

INT.KITCHEN.DAY

Intention: OBSTACLE!after coming back from the

practice Luca’s sticks the flier on the fridge, he sits

down at the kitchen with a sandwich his mum serves him , his

mum then goes over to the fridge to see the flier, Lucas mum

then begins to try and understand why Lucas has this flier,

it slowly evolves into a heated argument, Lucas then

receives a text from the event organizer asking him to

confirm his performance, Lucas simply responds and confirms

it.

MEDIUM WIDE: MUM PREPARING SANDWICH , IN BACKGROUND LUCAS IS

PLACING FLIER ON THE FRIDGE AND IS SITTING AT THE TABLE

MUM:

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN I THOUGHT YOU WHERE REVISING FOR YOUR

EXAMS, YOU NEED TO START NOW , YOU CANT BE JUST TAKING TIME

OFF

OVER THE SHOULDER : OF MUM TAKING THE FLIER OF THE FRIDGE

MUM:

Whats this Lucas? why do you have

this?

CLOSE UP: LUCAS

OVER THE SHOULDER: MUM

MUM:

If you think that your going to go

to this thats not happening, how

can you even think of doing this!

OVER THE SHOULDER: OF LUCAS SITTING.

your just going to make a fool of

yourself!

You cant be doing these things, you

are def now you need to give up

playing music and start to focus on

your education.

WIDE: TWO SHOT OF THEM BOTH MUM STANDING LUCAS SITTING.

(Phone vibration heard)

Lucas takes his phone out of his pocket.

Hey Lucas just confirming that you

will be on at 8:00pm tonight?

(Sound of crowed gradually

getting lowder)

LUCAS (VIA TEXT)

Yea.

INT.GIG.NIGHT

Lucas is on the stage ready to perform , the audience all

are sitting down chatting waiting for the performance to

begin, Lucas then walks on stage towards his amp , he then

sits down and goes straight into his performance. the

audience after the performance give a strong round of

applause and cheers

(sound of random chatter from

the audience)
