The Stone Age is a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make implements with a sharp edge, a point, or a percussion surface. The period lasted roughly 3.4 million years, and ended between 4500 BC and 2000 BC with the advent ofmetalworking.[1] Stone Age artifacts include tools used by humans and by their predecessor species in the genus Homo, as well as the earlier partly contemporaneous genera Australopithecus and Paranthropus. Bone tools were used during this period as well, but are more rarely preserved in the archaeological record. The Stone Age is further subdivided by the types of stone tools in use.

How they lived?

During the Old Stone Age, the Paleolithic, starting around 2.5 million years ago, humans were grouped together in small scale societies such as bands and gained their subsistence from gathering plants and hunting wild animals. Humankind gradually evolved from early members of the genus Homo such as Homo habilis, who used simple stone tools into fully behaviorally and anatomically modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens), around 200,000 years ago. Homo habilis is believed to have constructed the first man-made structure in East Africa around 2 million years ago, consisting of simple arrangements of stones to hold branches of trees in position.

Where they live?

They may lack most mod cons, but three homes being built in a field on Salisbury Plain are the ultimate in New Stone Age comfort. They boast wattle-and-daub walls, a thick thatched roof and a central hearth for cooking and warmth.
