Auditory risk assessment of portable compact disc players:

On most CD disc players (depending on the type of music and the earphone used), caution should be exercised above volume 5 or 6.

One disc player he used (using a vertically oriented earphone) yielded excessive outputs even when as low as volume 3-4.
