OUR CHOSEN SONG – WONDERLAND WHY THIS PARTICULAR ARTIST?

• We decided to go with this particular artist because of her unique videos and indie pop style.

• This particular song is different to her usual types of songs. Therefore, this song has uniqueness about it.

WHY THIS PARTICULAR SONG? We chose this song as it is unique and has an indie vibe and we thought about shot locations which we could use, prior to deciding on this song as locations are an essential part of a good/successful music video. The song is very versatile which allows us to take many outlooks and conceptual ideas for video.

HOW COULD WE INTERPRET THE LYRICS?

The song, “Wonderland”, tells of a relationship with a green-eyed man that wasn’t quite as it seems. The two jumped into a relationship too quickly and “fell down a rabbit hole” where “nothing’s as it seems”. She sings of how the relationship spiralled out of control and how they both went mad.

In true Taylor fashion, she managed to make this song fully embrace the essence of the story and the emotion and chaos of the relationship. When we think of ”Alice in Wonderland”, we remember all the madness that Alice went through. Everything was so mysterious and backwards and strange and confusing. This song completely represents that same feeling with the switch between the “lullaby-like” sound at the beginning of the song and then the beat picking up during the pre-chorus. The chorus itself switches back to a calmer sound with a keyboard melody and then explodes into awesomeness. It’s brilliant. The best moment was during the bridge when the music slowed down and Taylor sang “I reached for you but you were gone. I know I had to go back home. You searched the world for something else to make you feel like what we had, but in the end in Wonderland, we both went mad.”

WHAT IS THE GENRE/SUB-GENRE OF YOUR CHOSEN SONG? Pop genre "Wonderland" makes frequent allusions to the novel Alice in Wonderland, and is known for a "bass drop" in the first chorus.

OTHER SONGS IN THAT GENRE AND SOME DETAILS ABOUT THEIR VIDEOS

Ed Sheeran- Give Me Love This video is purely narrative, there is no element of performance which seems to be common in Ed Sheeran's music videos. The video begins with girl with wings on in an apartment who looks as if she was tragically murdered by an arrow. It then flashes back to the girl very much alive, peering at a couple from behind a brick wall. The narrative follows the girl as she sprouts wings and becomes cupid, firing arrows at different people who, in effect fall in love. But it is apparent that seeing other people in love isn’t enough for cupid. It then cuts back to the opening scene and we see the girl who appears to bed, until a handsome police man sees the girl and the arrow disappears showing that she has finally found love. The narrative engages emotion and makes the viewer feel sorry for the girl.

Representations in this video are almost unnoticeable, the couples that cupid hits are all different genders, races and age. The reason I use the word unnoticeable is because they don’t make it look as if it is wrong to be a same gender or interracial couple. The message this sends to viewers is that love is love, and all love is right.

WHAT COMBINATION OF PERFORMANCE/CONCEPT/NARRATIVE DO YOU ENVISAGE FOR YOUR VIDEO?

A combination of all three types of music videos will be involved in our final production, concept will probably be our main focus as we feel as if we can do potentially more if we focus in on that type as it will enable us to have more freedom with potential colours for backgrounds in order to keep our potential audience entertained.

We will also use elements performance videos in our final video in order to combine the two types and so that the audience are still engaging with our video throughout the whole duration.

POTENTIAL FILMING LOCATIONS

Page 11: Music videos pitch presentation (1)

WHY/HOW COULD WE USE THESE POTENTIAL LOCATIONS? We could use these potential locations in order to get the correct colour scheme we are looking for as each location offers an indie vibe.

The different locations will go hand in hand together and due to the use of jump cuts, our video will not look too disjointed as a result, therefore hopefully offering a successful music video feel towards our potential audience.

WHAT ISSUES/PROBLEMS COULD YOU HAVE? Weather Timings – e.g. traffic could delay us from getting to some locations, therefore as a result when we get there the lighting may not quite be right for that potential part of our video.

Camera difficulties – This could delay our process if we lose any footage, which would mean we would have to re-film which would mean that we would lose valuable editing time.
