When thinking about how to ask certain questions we evaluated which types of question would be best for the type of information we needed. Open questions were used when we needed detailed answers. Closed questions were used when we needed to restrict the participants answers for example when we had a selection of answers and needed to determine one. Scaled – yes/no answers were given when asked direct questions such as do videos need to be narrative.

When we asked our target audience if they believed the video should have a narrative we found that most felt the video should have a narrative. However, we have decided to include a narrative in our video as we believe this would make the video look more professional. This is because, when a band releases their first commercial video they need to represent themselves in a positive light that will attract their target audience and also let their audience know who they are and, in music terms, what they are all about.

When we asked the target audience how many locations they would expect to see in the video, we found that most people wanted to see more than just one location. However, we have decided to use only one location as this would also allow the audience to get to know the band and the music they create, but also because of budget. As this is the first video for an emerging band and therefore, they are not given a high budget to create their music video.

When we asked our target audience where they would expect a music video of this genre to be shot, there was a range of answers, mainly a house party and a live gig. We have decided to combine these two ideas so that our band will be playing at a house party. We have done this as we believe this is very conventional of this genre and this will ensure that the music genre that the band come under is easily recognisable. A simple house party is also relatively low budget and will also allow the band to let their own personalities show in their very first video.
