How did it begin?

• In November 1992, MTV began listing directors with the artist, song, and record company credits, reflecting the fact that music videos had increasingly become an auteur's medium.

Some music videos cost a lot to make!

But I don’t have a lot of money!

Melina Matsoukas says that expensive equipment is not necessary for a quality video and one should never think that way: "A good video has the right visuals, a well conceptualised story and should be exciting and elicit reaction."

Possible director responsibilities• Auditioning/selecting talent• Planning the aesthetic of the video – the overall look• Planning the shooting of the video – rehearsals, call list,

resources, storyboards, shot list etc• Choosing camera angles and shots• Directing how footage will be edited together• Decide mise-en-scene of the shoot…
