lhambra Season Partners & Guests,

There are classics and there are Classics, and Kiss Me, Kate is a Classic - with a capital C.

Kiss Me, Kate was the first show Cole Porter wrote in which the music and lyrics were firmly integrated into the script, and it was his response to Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! The show proved to be his biggest hit and the only one to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway. In 1949, it won the first Tony Award ever presented for Best Musical. In March of 2015, it was announced that the 1949 original cast recording would be inducted into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry for the album's "cultural, artistic and historical significance to American society and the nation's audio legacy." So, if we're defining "classic" by a show's cultural impact and longevity, Kiss Me, Kate certainly qualifies.

Speaking of classics, I am excited about the upcoming schedule: Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? is a classic in Alhambra lore; it's always been a sell-out and tickets are going fast. 1776 tells the story of our nation's beginnings - this show is big and also a first-class musical. My daughter will tell you that Elf The Musical is a modern day Christmas standard, and if anyone doubts that, just try to find someone who can't recite at least one line from the Will Farrell movie.

We are getting ready to announce our 2019 season, and while I can't tell you what those shows are yet, I can promise you we will have a BIG season with even more classics that will leave you dazzled and excited. Stay tuned to our Stagelight e-newsletter for the official release of the season, and if you're not already one of our 96,000 subscribers, please make sure you sign up tonight by filling out a Kilwins entry form. Stagelight subscribers receive announcements before anyone else (except our Season Partners, of course), so you might want to consider joining.

I hope you have a great end of summer and thank you for choosing to make your memories at the Alhambra.

Kind regards,

Craig

Kiss me,Kate
