It is an American based conglomerate but French owned, currently running as a subsidiary of the French multinational media company Vivendi

The company was first founded in 1934 as a partnering company for the film company Universal Pictures

It has various locations across the globe such as Hollywood, Universal City, NYC, London, Nashville and the main office being situated in Santa Monica.
