Indie/Rock

•Indie/Rock is a music genre within rock which from started of in the U.S and came to the U.K in the 1980’s. The term Indie/Rock is used to describe the production of independent underground music; most songs and labels of the genre are self owned.

•The roots of Indie/Rock came from ‘The velvet underground's debut album back in 1967, this successful album was ranked number 7 out of 100. The success of this album caused great influence for other talented artists to come forward and produce their own songs.

•However, recently the independent rock genre has increased over the years of 2000 and so on due to some of the influential bands and artists such as ‘modest mouse’ and ‘death cab for cutie’. This has caused many new and young artists to promote more, such as on the internet; in order to get recognised.

Different Types of Indie Rock

• American Indie/Rock (Associated with heavy distorted sounds).

• Indie/Rock – U.K - the charts featured bands that emerged with a form of guitar-based alternative rock that dominated the indie charts, particularly artists such as Aztec Camera and Orange Juice
