MUSIC CRITERIA FOR FRICKER SCHOLARSHIP
Candidates must be minimum AMEB grade 3 or equivalent for strings, brass or woodwind and
minimum AMEB grade 4 or equivalent for piano.
Strings, brass and woodwind candidates can perform with an accompanist if the repertoire is
intended to be played this way.
Candidates can perform with a CD backing.
Successful candidates will be expected to do Music as a subject from Years 8 to 12.
Candidates will be expected to take part in the co-curricular program at Westminster School. They will
be expected to participate in the program from Years 8 to 12 in at least 2 ensembles, but preferably a
willingness to do more.
If a candidate can play 2 or more instruments they are encouraged to audition on all.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Audition requirements for first instrument:
- 2 contrasting pieces
Audition requirements for second/ third instrument:
- 1 piece
REVIEW
The Scholarship winner is subject to an annual review. The annual review is conducted by the Head of
Performing Arts and a nominated delegate on the quality of music performance, academic
achievement and general participation in the Westminster Music Department program. A report will
be submitted to the Head of Senior School.
Students accepting the Fricker Scholarship with more than one discipline (drama, dance) are also
expected to undertake, where possible given timetable constraints, dance and drama as a subject, and
engage in performances. Student’s academic achievement in these areas, as well as in other subjects,
will be considered in the review process. Students are expected to achieve well in Performing Arts
areas.
