OH, give me music in the twilight hour!
Then, skilled musician! thou of the magic power,

An unforgettable evening of outstanding choral music will begin with the men and women of the accomplished Valley Choral Society presenting a stirring program of sacred and Americana favorites. Then you will experience the elite, women’s choir, Vox Musica, whose concerts are jewels of refined, pre‐cise, and sublime singing that will take you to the musical unknown. There will be no let‐up in quality choral sounds with the Doreen Irwin Singers, or‐ganized only last year but already delighting Sacramento audiences. Tonight they will be fresh from an invited performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Next on the program is Cantare Chorale, a 20‐voice mixed chorus that is equally at home with classical or contemporary music – and everything in between. Listening to them you will be impressed not only by their profi‐ciency but their warmth. And for a grand finale you’ll see and hear the award‐winning, nationally ranked Voices of California. These 80+ men deliver a high‐energy, eye‐popping performance that raises barbershop to a new level.

The poetry and music inspiring this concert speak of skilled musicians with magic powers who through their music cre‐ate quick electric tones and moods of majesty that shake the earth and move the stars. It is our hearts’ desire to in‐spire you and lift your spirit through our music. The varied selections of style and mood will surely send you home humming one of your favorite selections.
We welcome you to our 2015 spring concert Give Me Mu‐sic. We sing for the joy of it and work diligently to develop the musical skills required to create harmony, rhythm, and expression. We are here for our community, not only to share the music, but also to provide avenues for potential musicians to express and develop their talents.

Introducing our Director Mariia Pechenova
Hailing from St Petersburg, Russia, Mariia has lived in the US since 2012. Her short stay here has been punctuated by excellent acknowledgements and performances.
In 2014, Mariia became an assistant pro‐fessor of music at Folsom Lake College and since then has taught and accompanied all levels of voice, and assisted with and con‐ducted the college choir. She teaches pri‐vate voice and piano lessons. She is also the pianist and organist for traditional and contemporary services with St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in El Dorado Hills.
Mariia’s background includes a Master of Arts in Conducting at St. Petersburg State
University in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2012.
She has performed in operas as soloist and as member of the choir in re‐citals of Russian, German, Italian and British operas in the different con‐cert halls and theaters in Russia and Europe with such prominent artists as Vladimir Miller, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Elena Obraztsova, and conductors Saulius Sandetskis, Alexander Sladkovsky, and Alexander Tchernushenko.
Mariia worked with various choirs such as the St. Petersburg Women's Choir, the Youth Chamber Choir of St. Petersburg, and the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir "Petersburg‐Concert".
Mariia became artistic director for Cantare Chorale in the fall of 2014 and brings to our community excellence in musical instruction and perform‐ance.

El Dorado County’s Finest First organized in 1992, members come from diverse backgrounds, all with the common goal of shar‐ing quality music. You may have seen the chorale perform at other venues – the Capitol Rotunda Holi‐day Music Program, Imagination Theater, Memorial and Veterans Day tributes, the Placerville Festi‐val of Lights, and the Community Concert Series, the Harris Center. In 2015 Cantare will be singing in the 2nd annual Sacramento Choral Festival Event—SacSings! Their concerts emphasize vocal variety with colorful insights on the com‐posers and the selections. With 20 members singing 4‐ to 8‐part har‐mony – the sound is impressive.

Wendy grew up in Placerville where she began her piano studies with John Trenalone, then studied piano with Dilworth Simmons in Sacra‐mento. At the age of twelve, she began teaching piano and had a studio of ten students throughout her high school years.
She double majored in piano performance (studying with Frank Wiens) and music history at University of the Pacific, and did graduate work in music history and theory at University of Illinois (where her piano teachers were Daisy de Luca Jaffe and Lydia Artymiw) and at the University of Iowa, where she earned a master’s degree in organ (studying with Paul Tegels, John Chappell Stowe and Delbert Disselhorst).
Wendy served on the music faculty at Stillman College (Tuscaloosa, AL) and at Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS). She has performed in 29 states. She accompanies the choir at Union Mine High School, serves as choir director, hand bell director and organist for First Lutheran Church in Placerville, and teaches piano and organ in Shingle Springs, Placerville, and at El Dorado Hills Music. She has accompanied Cantare Chorale since 2008.
Annika Andersson, Soprano, a new mem‐ber to Cantare is a native to El Dorado County. She hopes to give back to the community that helped rear her. She is the mother of three teenage children, holds a Master in Mythology with a Depth Psychological emphasis and her passions include the creative process, photogra‐phy, psychology, religious studies, philoso‐phy, and mythology Barbara Anderson, Alto, has lived in Cam‐eron Park/Shingle Springs for 28 years. She has two children and has always en‐joyed living in this community. Music has been a big part of her life—participating in various choruses from school days to pre‐sent. This is her first season with Cantare and she reports great joy to be a part of it. Linda Babin, Soprano, sang with the Foot‐hill Women's Chorus for many years be‐fore joining Cantare. Originally from the Bay Area, Linda came to Shingle Springs to get married and to rear her three children. She has spent the last 20 years working as a Real Estate Broker. She enjoys skiing, hiking, travel and time with family and friends. Diane Boul, Soprano, has been involved with singing for much of her life. Small‐ensemble singing has been her favorite, since high school in Illinois. In California, she has sung with a jazz choir, small‐opera chorus, Renaissance choir, and a women’s chamber choir. She joined Cantare in 2014. Diane also enjoys hiking, native‐plant gardening, her cat, and healthy liv‐ing. Cindy Cockerell, Soprano, has been a member of Cantare since 2012. She has had many years of experience with singing in church praise teams, small groups and local musical theater. She and her hus‐band have three children and six grand‐children. Other interests include vaca‐tioning in Maui, golf and science. Richard DiMauro, Bass, was born in Rhode Island, and after a tour of duty with
the U.S. Air Force, settled in California where he and his wife Wanda reared three children. Retiring from Eastman Kodak after 31 years, he enjoys singing with various choirs and playing golf. Carmen Disho, Alto, moved from the Bay Area to El Dorado HIlls in 1991 with her husband, Varda, and three children. She sang with the Foothill Women’s Chorus for over 11 years. Carmen worked for Franklin Templeton Investments for 10 years before retiring. Now she enjoys her three grandchildren, gardening, hiking, cycling, fishing, traveling and the arts. Florene Haile, Alto, moved to Shingle Springs from Fort Collins, CO. She has been in music since she was eight years old. While in Colorado, she was the ac‐companist for Woodland Park High School. She met Wayne while singing in the college choir, and they have been together in various choirs for 56 years. Wayne Haile, Bass, is beginning his sec‐ond year singing with Cantare. He courted his wife in college choir, and they both have remained active in church choirs and musicals for 50+ years. After working as an Air Force civilian for 40 years, Wayne's post‐retirement avocation has been to work as a maintenance/fixit man at a Christian camp in high Colorado. Linda Ford Hughes, Soprano, a native Northern Californian and retired school teacher, has been singing in choral groups since elementary school. Linda joined Cantare in 2010. She has 2 adult children and 4 young adult grandkids. Linda and husband, Floyd, are active in Placerville Church of the Nazarene and love to ex‐plore the United States and travel the world Kathy Keleshian, Soprano, grew up in southern California and the Bay Area, and now lives in Shingle Springs. Her family includes husband, Phil, daughter, son, and seven wonderful grandchildren. She has worked as a teacher and administrator‐‐

A former teacher, she is a cantor and member of the Holy Trinity choir, and serves as Cantare’s music librarian. She and her husband Dave have three grown children and a good start on grandchil‐dren. Ruth O’Shea, Alto, moved from SC to Shingle Springs with her husband, Larry, in 1986. She is an RN with a Master in Nurs‐ing from Emory University. In retirement, she volunteers as a Faith Community Nurse at the Church of the Nazarene. Ruth became an active member of Can‐tare in 1994 and now serves as President of the corporation. Bill Pearson, Baritone, an East Coast transplant, has had several careers‐‐civil engineer for El Dorado County, music educator at high school and community college levels, and co‐founder of the Can‐tare Chorale. He holds two music de‐grees‐‐bachelor’s from Sac State College and master’s from Indiana University. He currently teaches voice locally and is busy with numerous music projects. Carrie Penaloza, Soprano, born in Napa to an Air Force family, Carrie has lived much of her life outside California, finally returning to Shingle Springs in 2010. She has been involved since childhood in vari‐ous school choruses, church choirs and community chorales. She has two grown children and, in addition to music/singing,
enjoys reading, dancing, travel and learn‐ing new things. Bob Ridgway, Tenor, involved in choirs as bass and tenor for decades, joined Can‐tare in 2006. Holding a bachelor’s in Phys‐ics with post‐graduate courses in engi‐neering and other topics, Bob worked as an aerospace and communications engi‐neer in northern and southern California. He moved to Placerville for two years in 1984 and moved back after retirement in 2003. Stephen Shoff, Tenor, grew up in Califor‐nia and Arizona. His musical interests were in piano and violin through his col‐lege years, receiving his music training mostly through school‐related programs. Since college, his opportunities have been centered in church choral music. His en‐joyment of classical and choral music led him to join Cantare in 2010. Donna Tallman Trevino, Alto, born in Kansas, raised in Sacramento and vaca‐tioned at Sly Park often. She and husband Ed consider this area just about as close to perfect as a location can get and moved here in 1980 to raise their two boys. She teaches at El Dorado High and studied flute with the late Edna Comerchero at CSUS. Karen Tustin, Alto, is a recently retired attorney in Placerville. She and her hus‐band, Doug, a retired family physician, moved to Placerville in 1973, choosing the area as the perfect place to practice their respective careers and raise a family. They have three grown sons, all of whom are successful products of Placerville pub‐lic schools, and six grandchildren. Al Woods, Tenor, a member of Cantare since 2011, has been involved in choral singing since elementary school. He has also sung in gospel quartets and mixed quartets. Al holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and worked in the aerospace industry prior to arriving in Placerville in 2009.

She double majored in piano performance (studying with Frank Wiens) and music history at University of the Pacific, and did graduate work in music history and theory at University of Illinois (where her piano teachers were Daisy de Luca Jaffe and Lydia Artymiw) and at the University of Iowa, where she earned a master’s degree in organ (studying with Paul Tegels, John Chappell Stowe and Delbert Disselhorst).
Wendy served on the music faculty at Stillman College (Tuscaloosa, AL) and at Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS). She has performed in 29 states. She accompanies the choir at Union Mine High School, serves as choir director, hand bell director and organist for First Lutheran Church in Placerville, and teaches piano and organ in Shingle Springs, Placerville, and at El Dorado Hills Music. She has accompanied Cantare Chorale since 2008.
Introducing our Director Mariia Pechenova
Hailing from St Petersburg, Russia, Mariia has lived in the US since 2012. Her short stay here has been punctuated by excellent acknowledgements and performances.
In 2014, Mariia became an assistant pro‐fessor of music at Folsom Lake College and since then has taught and accompanied all levels of voice, and assisted with and con‐ducted the college choir. She teaches pri‐vate voice and piano lessons. She is also the pianist and organist for traditional and contemporary services with St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in El Dorado Hills.
Mariia’s background includes a Master of Arts in Conducting at St. Petersburg State
University in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2012.
She has performed in operas as soloist and as member of the choir in re‐citals of Russian, German, Italian and British operas in the different con‐cert halls and theaters in Russia and Europe with such prominent artists as Vladimir Miller, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Elena Obraztsova, and conductors Saulius Sandetskis, Alexander Sladkovsky, and Alexander Tchernushenko.
Mariia worked with various choirs such as the St. Petersburg Women's Choir, the Youth Chamber Choir of St. Petersburg, and the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir "Petersburg‐Concert".
Mariia became artistic director for Cantare Chorale in the fall of 2014 and brings to our community excellence in musical instruction and perform‐ance.

The poetry and music inspiring this concert speak of skilled musicians with magic powers who through their music cre‐ate quick electric tones and moods of majesty that shake the earth and move the stars. It is our hearts’ desire to in‐spire you and lift your spirit through our music. The varied selections of style and mood will surely send you home humming one of your favorite selections.
We welcome you to our 2015 spring concert Give Me Mu‐sic. We sing for the joy of it and work diligently to develop the musical skills required to create harmony, rhythm, and expression. We are here for our community, not only to share the music, but also to provide avenues for potential musicians to express and develop their talents.

OH, give me music in the twilight hour!

An unforgettable evening of outstanding choral music will begin with the men and women of the accomplished Valley Choral Society presenting a stirring program of sacred and Americana favorites. Then you will experience the elite, women’s choir, Vox Musica, whose concerts are jewels of refined, pre‐cise, and sublime singing that will take you to the musical unknown. There will be no let‐up in quality choral sounds with the Doreen Irwin Singers, or‐ganized only last year but already delighting Sacramento audiences. Tonight they will be fresh from an invited performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Next on the program is Cantare Chorale, a 20‐voice mixed chorus that is equally at home with classical or contemporary music – and everything in between. Listening to them you will be impressed not only by their profi‐ciency but their warmth. And for a grand finale you’ll see and hear the award‐winning, nationally ranked Voices of California. These 80+ men deliver a high‐energy, eye‐popping performance that raises barbershop to a new level.
