• I know, I know, it’s expensive, but it’s all you’ll need, and we will be using it a great deal.

• Do not try to take this class without it.

Two Tests

• Mid-term of 100 questions

• Final of 200 questions

• All multiple choice and machine graded

Two Papers

• Mid-term (spotting session)

• Final (spotting session and analysis - five pages double-spaced minimum)

• Hardcopy or online preferred (Word format).

Films

• Each student will be required to have two different films for your papers.

• No student can have the same film as another student

• Films will be chosen from those listed on a special website that I will post on the class website this afternoon.

• Sign in. • Only films with check boxes are possible

choices.

• I have seen all of these films and know their soundtracks

• Films not appearing here are omitted because– I have not seen them– Soundtracks are not that interesting– Composer too heavily represented already– Am covering in class– Etc.

• Do not try to switch films with someone else

• Do not try to convince me to add a film• Let me know if you cannot find the film

you’ve chosen• Films are available on a first-come first-

serve basis, sorry . . .• Films that you never heard of, or don’t

like, are actually better choices!

• Don’t give the website out to other people

• Don’t try to select more than two films by creating a new connection with your room mate’s name

• Remember - messing this up will hurt your fellow class members. Let’s play fair.

• Buy your films online.

• Rent your films from Netflix or other source.

• Download your films.

• See them in the library Media Center.

• Borrow your films from someone.

• Buy your films used at Streetlight.

Attendance

• Mandatory• Each class will have a quiz where I will play a

film score. You will write down the film name and/or the composer’s name along with your own name on a sheet of paper.

• No harm, no foul. All correct answers receive extra credit. Incorrect answers, get no extra credit. We take roll from these sheets of paper. One sheet per customer - no handing in sheets for friends.

Grading

• Test 1 (mid-term): 20%• Test 2 (final): 33%• Paper 1 (mid-term): 15%• Paper 2 (final): 32%

• Attendance - miss more than three classes and risk failure.

• Extra credit - three or more correct answers and increase grade by half a step.

Attendance

• Will be taken every class except today.

• No harm no foul quiz. I will play a bit of a film score. If you get the composer or the film correct you’ll get extra credit. If not, you’ll just get your ass covered for being here.

Grading

• I do grade on percentage

• I do not grade on the curve

• If you learn what I ask you to learn, attend class, do the reading, do well on the tests, write great papers, then you get an A, no matter how many others get an A.

• And so on.
