Activities, workshops and services for schools

2011/2012

Award Winning Learning Services for SchoolsFollowing the merging of Worcestershire County Museum with Worcester City Museums service in April 2010, Museums Worcestershire now offer a comprehensive learning service available for your pupils to enjoy either in school or at one of our historic venues.

The Learning Service at Museums Worcestershire provides activities and role-play sessions covering Medieval, Tudor, English Civil War, Victorian, First World War and Second world periods. We also offer a range of science and nature topics linked to our collections. Each cross-curricular activity is rich in creativity and language and focusing on historic enquiry, stretches children’s thinking and reasoning skills. Many sessions and workshops can be adapted to suit particular requirements. Look out for special themed weeks too.

In addition, Worcester Museum and Art Gallery deliver activities linked to their changing programme of temporary exhibitions and our Outreach service provides activities in your school linked to such topics as Tudor Music, The Solar System, Samuel Pepys and The Great Fire of London, The Life of Florence Nightingale and more.

Our Object Loans Service is also available to schools, which enables you to borrow objects from a huge selection of artefacts to support your teaching in the classroom and our award winning Museum on the Move can bring exhibitions straight to your door.

All activities can be tailored for SEN groups to fit with your individual requirements.

For further information about these services, please read on. We look forward to welcoming you to Museums Worcestershire soon.

Museum on The Move is a unique exhibition experience that brings museum objects, activities and displays to you.

MOM is one of only a handful of heritage attractions across the country (that is not a historic building) to win the prestigious Sandford Award for Heritage Education as a mark of excellence in the field of heritage learning.

Exhibitions currently change annually and have covered such themes as The Olympic Games, Rivers, Communication and recently the History of Numbers.

MOM exists to challenge rural isolation and social exclusion and to provide access to museum services for a variety of audiences. These include visits to schools, sheltered accommodation, disability groups, care homes, hospitals, town centres, festivals and shows and a range of other venues.

A visit from MOM is a truly interactive experience for all key stages. The bus is accompanied by two members of staff and can park up at school for whole or half day sessions.

Museums Worcestershire recognises the benefit of bringing learning to life with objects previously seen only in pictures. Children’s experience and understanding of diverse ages and cultures will be enriched as they handle these artefacts and find out about times past.

All of our artefact resource boxes contain suitable original objects tailored to meet your specific requirements.

Themes can cover Roman life, Victorian life, toys from the past, the Second World War, and much more. We really do have more items than we could list, so if you are looking for objects to enhance your lessons and enrich your pupils learning, do contact us.

Artefact resources boxes are loaned for either a whole or half term and can be collected from one of 8 centres. See back page for details.

If you have not subscribed to this service before, please contact Hartlebury for a subscription form and return this with any loan request.
