Wormwood Artemesia 'Silver Mound' $ 10.00 A low mounding, silvery foliage plant that looks great on the edge of a garden path. Does not need a lot of watering and is deer resistant.

Butterfly Weed Asclepias tuberosa $ 10.00 Bright orange flowers attract all sorts of butterflies and of course it is a host plant for Monarch butterflies. The plant itself grows about 24” tall and is a rugged performer in the summer garden. May be late coming out in the spring.

Aster Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' $ 10.00 This tried and true aster is a great flower to have in the fall. This native cultivar is compact, growing only to 18” or so. Attracts butterflies and bees late into the season.

Lesser catmint Calamintha nepeta subsp. nepeta $ 10.00 Another sun loving, drought tolerant perennial good for butterflies and bees. Stays low at 12” it can spread out. Deer resistant.

Turtlehead Chelone obliqua 'Tiny Tortuga' TM ‘Armitpp02’ PP25350 $ 10.00 Pink, turtlehead-shaped blooms cluster atop dark foliage on this stunning plant. This native blooms mid-summer and is deer resistant.

Tickseed Coreopsis grandiflora 'Early Sunrise' $ 10.00 An early blooming coreopsis, this is a tried and true native. Bright yellow semi-double flowers go well with other early summer bloomers. Good for butterflies and bees.

Threadleaf Coreopsis Coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb' $ 10.00 Bright yellow flowers sprawl across the tops of soft, fine foliage and make a stunning show midsummer. This native grows to about 15” tall and is drought tolerant. Popular with all sorts of pollinators.

Ice plant Delosperma cooperi 'Table Mountain' ® $ 10.00 This drought tolerant succulent is perfect for rock gardens or any other hot sunny spot. It forms a mat of gray-green foliage topped with bright magenta flowers in the summer. An individual plant can spread out about 18”. Quart pot

Globe Thistle Echinops 'Blue Glow' $ 10.00 This well-behaved clumping perennial is topped with intense blue spheres during the summer. It is popular with many pollinators. Grows 30” tall. Makes a good cut flower for arrangements.

Sea Holly Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' $ 10.00 A solid, drought-tolerant perennial that produces blue spiny flowers that add a different texture to the garden. Butterfly and bee friendly, it also is a good cut flower. Foliage stays low (6”) but flowers stick up as high as 36” inches.

Blanket Flower Gaillardia aristata 'Arizona Sun' $ 10.00 Masses of orange-red blooms cover this native cultivar each summer. Once established, little care and watering is needed, and it can be quite drought tolerant. Deer resistant and it attracts pollinators. Low mounding habit, growing to about 10” tall and wide.

Baby's Breath Gypsophila 'Summer Sparkles' ® $ 10.00 Often used as a filler plant in the garden (and in flower arrangements) this compact cultivar is a great compliment to other plants. The gray-green foliage and white flowers make a nice foil for brighter neighbors, yet it still attracts butterflies. A sprawling habit makes it good for covering foliage of dying back spring bulbs. Drought and deer tolerant.

Hibiscus Hibiscus 'Ballet Slippers' $ 10.00 This is a show-stopper plant for the late summer garden. A tall plant for back of the garden, it gets 4’ tall and produces large white flowers 7” wide. This is a hardy hibiscus so no need to bring indoors for the winter. This native is good for pollinators and is deer resistant.

Louisiana Iris Iris 'Black Gamecock' $ 10.00 A late blooming iris, this plant is best in boggy soil or on the water’s edge. Dark purple flowers definitely catch the eye. Deer resistant and bee friendly.

Bearded Iris Iris germanica 'Alpine Journey' $ 10.00 A beautiful bicolor bearded iris with brilliant white standards and yellow falls. It will grow to 38” tall. Prefers well-drained soils.

Siberian Iris Iris 'Caesar's Brother' $ 10.00 One of the more versatile irises for the garden. Siberian irises can take moderately dry locations or do well in moister spots. They also are more shade tolerant than other irises. Caesar’s Brother has been around since the 1930s and has proven its worth for decades. Beautiful blue flowers.

Red Hot Poker Kniphofia 'Fire Dance' $ 10.00 A great plant for sunny spots without much water. Tall spikes of orange and yellow tubes draw all sorts of pollinators and hummingbirds, yet the deer don’t like this plant. This cultivar is smaller than others, growing to only 20” tall so is suitable for smaller gardens.

Shasta Daisy Leucanthemum superbum 'Becky' $ 10.00 A sturdy cultivar, this daisy produces loads of white flowers each summer. It stands tall at 36” but does not require staking to keep it up. Removing spent blooms helps keep the flowers going during the summer.

Blazing Star Liatris spicata 'Kolbold' $ 10.00 This prairie native is one of the best plants for attracting pollinators. When the spikes are blooming in early to midsummer, expect to find them covered in butterflies. The purple spikes will stand 18-20” tall. Deer resistant.

Hollyhock Malva Malva sylvestris 'Zebrina' $ 10.00 With flowers reminiscent of a striped hollyhock, this perennial is a star when it blooms in early summer. It grows 24” tall. Heat and drought are no problem. May be somewhat short lived but reseeds readily.

Bee Balm Monarda 'Electric Neon Pink' PP30347 $ 10.00 This hybrid of the native bee balm produces intense dark pink flowers. Bee balms are great plants to attract pollinators and hummingbirds. Deer resistant. Spreads easily. Suitable for rain gardens.

Catmint Nepeta faassenii 'Walker's Low' $ 10.00 Aromatic leaves and soft lavender-blue flowers make this a great plant to place along the edge of a path. Blooms through the summer and attracts all sorts of pollinators. Grows to about 24” tall. Does not need much water and is deer resistant.

Ozark Sundrop Oenothera missouriensis $ 10.00 This drought-resistant native produces beautiful yellow flowers in the summer. Plants can sprawl out to 15” even though it will only grow about 10” tall. Good for rock gardens or along a border.

Poppy Papaver oriental 'Beauty of Livermere' $ 10.00 Brilliant red blooms top this early summer bloomer that grows to 30” tall. The plant will go dormant after flowering, so it mixes well with plants that fill in later in the summer.

Dwarf Fountain Grass Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln' $ 10.00 A compact form of the species fountain grass, this is a great ornamental grass to mix into the perennial border. Grows to only 2’ tall and is deer resistant. The showy seed heads catch the sun nicely and are a delight to pet. Effective in mass plantings or as a specimen.

Beardtongue Penstemon 'Prairie Dusk' $ 10.00 This cultivar features 24” tall spikes of rose-purple flowers that bloom in early summer. Popular with hummingbirds all it needs is plenty of sun and room to grow.

Creeping Phlox Phlox subulata 'Emerald Pink' $ 10.00 A long-flowering pink creeping phlox, this is a great plant for steep slopes, retaining walls and rock gardens. It will spread out to form a small carpet only 6” tall. Drought tolerant.

Salvia Salvia 'Ballerina Pink' PP29957 $ 10.00 A pink flowering form of the hardy garden salvia, this plant produces 18” tall spikes of soft pink flowers. Pollinator friendly and deer resistant.

Salvia Salvia nemerosa 'May Night' $ 10.00 A top landscape performer with dense spikes of violet-purple flowers. Blooms reach 18” tall in early summer. Pollinator friendly and deer resistant.

Hens and Chicks Sempervivum assorted $ 10.00 A larger rosette called “the hen” sprouts many smaller rosettes (“chicks”) of this succulent. Easy to divide, you will soon have a whole flock. Great for a rock garden, in the crevices of a path or in containers.

Spiderwort Tradescantia 'Concord Grape' $ 10.00 Triangular, purple blooms top this plant with strappy leaves. It grows to 18” or so and sprawls out slightly wider. Blooms in early summer. This native attracts both butterflies and bee.

Ironweed Vernonia 'Southern Cross' $ 10.00 This rugged perennial can get tall at 4’ feet or more. Purple blooms in late summer are perfect for butterflies and bees yet the deer don’t like it. It will take up some space in your garden but worth giving it the room.

Spike Speedwell Veronica 'Royal Rembrandt' $ 10.00 These spikey blue flowers are attractive to pollinators. A compact plant, it fits nicely into a flower garden. Once the flowers are done, shear the spent blooms off and you should get a second round of flowering.

Adam’s Needle Yucca filamentosa 'Color Guard' $ 10.00 This spiky leaved native plant works well in a dry garden bed or a container. Drought and cold tolerant, it has white flowers in early summer.

Bugleweed Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' $ 10.00 A spreading groundcover with dark, almost black leaves. In late spring, spikes of blue flowers bloom but the dark foliage is the real feature through the summer and fall. It does well in full sun, but it does equally well in the shade of a tree.

Lady's Mantle Alchemilla mollis $ 10.00 This plant has fine star-shaped yellow flowers in early summer, but the real attraction of this plant is the foliage. Fuzzy gray-green leaves catch water after a rain or morning dew and make the whole plant sparkle. A slow spreader, it works as a nice ground cover or edging plant. Deer resistant.

Arkansas Blue Star Amsonia hubrichtii $ 10.00 This southern native is attractive in 3 seasons. Blue star-shaped flowers bloom in spring and the soft, finely textured leaves just beg to touched. In fall, the leaves turn a brilliant golden color for an added touch to the autumn garden. Deer resistant

Anemone Anemone 'Honorine Jobert' $ 10.00 The tall single white flowers of these fall-blooming plants are a perfect addition to a cottage garden where a little shade is present. A nice stop for butterflies in the fall garden it is deer resistant.

Columbine Aquilegia 'Origami mix' $ 10.00 These large flowering hybrids of an old-fashioned plant provide bright colors in the late spring garden. They do well in a little bit of shade and enjoy the spring sun. They do well as a cut flower.

Astilbe Astilbe 'Bridal Veil' $ 12.00 This is the classic white astilbe. Lacy panicles of bee-friendly white flowers bloom in early summer and get as tall as 28”. Can thrive in full sun or full shade so very adaptable to many growing conditions. Deer resistant.

False Indigo Baptisia 'Blueberry Sundae' $ 10.00 This cultivar of the native species is more compact and features slightly brighter blue flowers. Still, this plant has a presence in the garden and takes up some space, growing 3’ tall and wide. A low maintenance perennial that works well as a mass or as a single show plant. Likes full sun but does well even with a little shade.

Montbretia Crocosmia 'Lucifer' $ 10.00 Tall sword-like leaves make this plant a spiky vertical element in garden design and the red blooms on wiry stems just adds to that them. It will get 36” tall, but only about 12” wide. The red tubular flowers are attractive hummingbirds. It loves full sun but can tolerate some light shade.

Pink Dianthus 'Cute as Button' PP31453 $ 10.00 Called pinks because the edge of the flower is cut, as if by pinking shears. These flowers bloom in later spring above a cushion of spiky leaves. Pollinator friendly and deer resistant, they need well-drained soil in full sun but can tolerate some shade.

Hardy Geranium Geranium 'Rozanne' $ 10.00 This hardy geranium hybrid does well in heat and humidity. Blue flowers hover about the sprawling plant, which makes a good ground cover. Continues to flower through the summer. Does well in full sun and prefers some afternoon shade.

False Sunflower Heliopsis helianthoides 'Summer Sun' $ 10.00 An easy-to-care-for perennial, this plant features many bright gold flowers during the summer. This native is a good cut flower to bring in for arrangements. Very heat tolerant, they grow tall (36”) so do well in the back of a flower border. They thrive in sunny spots but tolerate some shade.

Leopard Plant Ligularia 'Britt-Marie Crawford' $ 10.00 Dark, bold leaves make a statement in a mixed planting of flowers. In late summer, golden daisy-like flowers perch over the flowers making a 3’ tall showy display. Prefers partial shade. Deer resistant.

Cardinal Flower Lobelia cardinalis $ 10.00 The late-summer spikes of red flowers of this native are a magnet for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and even swallowtail birds. It does well in moist or boggy areas or just average soil. It does best in partial shade but tolerates full sun. Deer resistant.

Peony Paeonia 'Festiva Maxima' $ 15.00 This classic garden plant is a standard in our garden. Deer resistant, it blooms in late spring. Festiva Maxima has been around for decades and is popular for its white flowers with a carmine eye. Slightly fragrant. It does well in full sun but thrives with some light shade.

Black-eyed Susan Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' $ 10.00 This native black-eyed Susan is proven performer in the garden. Strong, long lasting golden flowers provide color all summer long. A great plant for pollinators. If you let the flowers go to seed, it will also attract many birds. Goldfinches cover ours each year. While it will tolerate some shade, it flowers best in full sun.

Japanese Painted Fern Athyrium 'Godzilla' $ 10.00 This cultivar is larger than other painted ferns. It forms a large clump of arching silvery fronds that makes for a low maintenance filler in a shady spot. Can get has high as 3’ tall and will spread to 4’

Siberian Bugloss Brunnera macrophylla 'Sterling Silver' $ 10.00 We get lots of comments and questions about our Brunnera planted in the Water Garden and Jasmine allee. This cultivar features heart-shaped silvery leaves and beautiful blue flowers in the spring. Grows 10” high and spreads out about 20”

Foxglove Digitalis purpurea 'Candy Mountain' $ 10.00 A classic in any garden, we have some planted in the Herbaceous border where the flowers show off against the dark yew hedge. Pink bell-shaped flowers with speckled throats. This 3’ tall plant is the natural source for the medicine digitalin. Will take plenty of sun as well.

Autumn Fern Dryopteris e. 'Brilliance' $ 10.00 The newly emerging fronds have a slight orange tint while the mature fronds are dark green. It grows 2’ tall and wide and is deer resistant. We have some in the Green Garden.

Barrenwort Epimedium 'Domino' $ 16.00 A slow spreading groundcover, the airy display of spring flowers leads you to underestimate how tough this plant is. It is deer/rabbit resistant and tolerates dry shade so it does well under trees. It can grow to 24” tall and wide.

Barrenwort Epimedium 'Pink Champagne' $ 12.00 This barrenwort features white spurs with a raspberry center. The dainty flowers and fine foliage make a nice contrast with the bigger leaves of hosta. It is deer/rabbit resistant and tolerates dry shade. It can grow 24” tall and wide, spreading slowly for a nice ground cover.

Red Barrenwort Epimedium rubrum $ 16.00 This plant features dainty red flowers rising high above mottled foliage. Drought and deer tolerant it will get about 15” tall and wide. A good slow-growing ground cover.

Sweet Woodruff Galium odoratum $ 10.00 This is a vigorous groundcover for partial or full shade as long as there is consistent moisture. Deer resistant. White flowers in late spring but the foliage is nice throughout the year and is fragrant when crushed. Growing to only 6” tall, it is good for planting along edges of paths and under taller blooming bulbs.

Lenten Rose Helleborus 'Honeymoon ® series' mix $ 10.00 Blooming in late winter/early spring, Lenten roses are a welcome sign that spring is on its way. Numerous blossoms of single flowers on each plant provide a variety of colors. Good for naturalizing in shady areas, it will grow 18” tall and gradually spread. Deer resistant. We have many of these plants near the Spring House in Kathie’s Spring Garden at the MSV.

Coral Bells Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' $ 10.00 The first purple-leaved coral bell, ‘Palace Purple’ continues to perform in the garden. Dark 0live and purple leaves provide a stunning backdrop for 20” spikes of small cream flowers. Its mounding habit helps it fit in nicely with other shade loving plants.

Ostrich Fern Matteuccia struthiopteris $ 10.00 This bold fern features large fronds that are wider at the top and taper towards the base. Reaching 3’ or higher, they command attention and space. They do like to spread if situated in a good spot. Don’t be surprised when the early leaves die back in mid-summer leaving smaller fertile leaves. Deer resistant.

Primula Primula 'Pacific Hybrids $ 10.00 A great, showy spring flowering plant with a variety of colors. Most have eyes that contrast with the rest of the flower petal. It will grow 6” tall and wide. A good bee-friendly plant for a shady cottage garden.

Foamflower Tiarella 'Sugar and Spice' $ 10.00 This cultivar of the native woodland plant makes a great groundcover, spreading slowly by stolons. 10” tall white spiky flowers bloom in late spring.

Toad Lily Tricyrtis h. 'Miyazaki Hybrids' $ 10.00 These plants don’t get a lot of attention in our Water Garden until they bloom in late summer/early fall. The mottled, orchid-like flowers are best seen up close, so plant them along a garden path. They can reach 30” tall.

Vines Clematis Clematis 'Giselle' $ 20.00 Large pink flowers bloom summer into fall on this medium growing vine that grows to about 6’ tall. It thrives in sun and does best with the roots planted in a little shade.

Thai Butterfly Pea Clitoria ternatea $ 8.00 Edible tropical vine that is an annual here. Brilliant blue flowers make a natural dye or calming tea. When you add a drop of lemon to the deep blue tea, the color instantly turns a bright pink. Grows vigorously in one season, covering a small trellis.

Wisteria Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls' $ 25.00 This native wisteria is not as aggressive as its Asian counterparts, but still has the clusters of very fragrant flowers that drip from the vine in late spring. It can grow as high as 20’ so give it some support.

Woodland Native Plants The following plants are native to woodland areas in the Shenandoah Valley

Many of these plants are hard to find in nurseries. We have sourced them from a reliable wholesaler, Sunshine Farm and Gardens.

Jack in the Pulpit Arisaema triphyllum $ 10.00 This spring woodland wildflower consists of the spadix (Jack), an erect spike and the sheath-like spathe (pulpit) which encases the Jack and forms a hood over the top. Likes partial to full shade. Mature plants are difficult to move so these are small plants, several in a container. This is a spring ephemeral and will die back during the summer.

Wild Ginger Asarum canadense $ 10.00 This native groundcover has heart-shaped leaves and small brown flowers that hide underneath. Prefers consistently moist soil and woodland shade.

Trout Lily Erythronium americanum $ 10.00 One of the earliest blooming spring wildflowers, a nodding, 3” tall, yellow recurved blossom stands atop the mottled leaves that give it its name. Likes woodland shade. Can be slow to establish. This is a spring ephemeral and dies back in late spring/summer. Plant immediately, foliage will disappear shortly after purchase.

Wild Geranium Geranium maculatum $ 10.00 A native groundcover, the 4” cut leaves have a slight fragrance and pink blooms in the spring with sporadic reblooming for several more weeks. Quick spreading, it can smother weeds if in the right conditions. Likes shade but can take some sun.

Twinleaf Jeffersonia diphylla $ 10.00 Usually found on limestone soils in damp woods, this unusual native is named in honor of Thomas Jefferson. White blooms in April are similar to bloodroot. Leaves are deeply divided into two lobes, hence the common name. Makes a good groundcover in shady spots when planted in mass.

Virginia Bluebell Mertensia virginica $ 10.00 This native produces a showy blue flower starting in late March into April. Does well in rich, moist soils along streams. Needs shade and great for naturalizing in a woodland garden. A spring ephemeral, it is best planted where ferns, hostas, or other summer plants will cover the gap. This plant will go dormant in the summer and leaves will disappear.

Broad Beech Fern Phegopteris hexagonoptera $ 10.00 This native deciduous fern has 2’ tall fronds and is as wide at the base tapering to a point. It does well in dry or moist shade and is excellent for naturalizing. This is a great companion for many spring ephemerals as it comes out late, after plants like Virginia Bluebell start to fade.

Indian Pink Spigelia marilandica $ 10.00 This summer flowering native is a clump-forming perennial that does well in natural areas or a formal garden. Red flowers topped by yellow stars appear in summer. Best in partial or full shade.

Great White Trillium Trillium grandiflorum $ 10.00 One of the most beloved of the spring woodland ephemerals, this shade-loving native produces beautiful white blooms in spring. Spreads gradually if left undisturbed. The foliage will die back in the summer.

Red Chokeberry Aronia arbutifolia 'Brilliantissima' $ 25.00 This 8’ tall native shrub has white spring flowers and brilliant red fall berries popular with birds. Great for naturalized plantings. Best in full sun but can tolerate some shade. We grow them near the Jasmine Allée.

Carolina Allspice Calycanthus 'Aprhodite' PP24014 $ 35.00 A reblooming hybrid of the native sweetshrub. It will grow 5’ high and wide and features fragrant reddish-brown flowers that bloom in spring. Deer resistant. A specimen is growing near the tool shed at the MSV.

Summersweet Clethra alnifolia 'Sixteen Candles' $ 25.00 Spikes of fragrant, white flowers cover this plant in mid-summer. Blooms best in full sun, but naturally grows under larger trees. Does well in moist soils. Shrubs grow about 3’ tall and wide. We have several planted in the shrub border behind the Pink Pavilion in the Glen Burnie Gardens.

Red twig dogwood Cornus sericea 'Baileyi' $ 25.00 This native shrub naturally grows in low wet areas along lakes and rivers. While it has small white flowers in late spring the red twigs in winter make a spectacular show. It grows about 6’ tall and wide and is good for attracting wildlife. Several are planted in front of the Museum.

Willowleaf Cotoneaster Cotoneaster salicifolius 'Scarlet Leader' $ 25.00 This low growing semi-evergreen shrub makes a great ground cover. Glossy green leaves set off bright red berries. It grows about 3’ tall but can spread as wide as 8’. Many are planted in the parking island near the MSV barn.

Witch Alder Fothergilla major 'Mt. Airy' $ 35.00 This native shrub with fragrant white bottlebrush flowers in spring has bright yellow-orange leaves in the fall. Best in a shrub border or foundation planting. Upright growth habit and gets to 6’ tall and 4'. Look for them growing in the shrub border behind the Jasmine Allée at the MSV.

Inkberry Ilex glabra 'Shamrock' $ 25.00 This compact form of inkberry holly is a nice lustrous green year-round. It is great for hedges and foundation plantings. Does best in full sun but tolerates some shade. Grows to 4’ tall and wide. We have a hedge of them near the Carriage House in the Glen Burnie Gardens.

Winterberry Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red' ® $ 25.00 A native female deciduous holly with spectacular red berries through the winter. It can take damp soils or dry areas. A moderately slow grower, it will eventually get large – 9’ tall and 8’ wide. Needs a male holly nearby to make berries. We have large groupings of them at the MSV parking lot.

Winterberry Ilex verticillata 'Southern Gentleman' $ 25.00 This male form of the native winterberry is compact slow growing deciduous holly. It does not produce berries but is needed for pollination so female winterberries can make berries. Only 1 needed for every 3 female plants. Will grow to about 6’ tall.

Virginia sweetspire Itea virginica 'Henry's Garnet' $ 25.00 A cultivar of a native shrub found naturally growing in wet locations. However, has good drought tolerance. Can handle full sun or shade. Spreads gradually and has long fragrant white flowers in late spring/early summer. Great fall foliage. Will get to 4’ tall and 5’ wide. We have large groupings in Kathie’s Spring Garden at the MSV.

Ninebark Physocarpus opulifolius 'Tiny Wine' ® PPAF $ 35.00 This dwarf cultivar is a rugged shrub for dry soils and difficult spots. Dark bronze-maroon leaves are the perfect backdrop for small white flowers in late spring. Gets 3-4’ tall and wide. We have a hedge of ninebark planted in the parking lot at the MSV.

Fragrant Sumac Rhus aromatica 'Gro-Low' $ 35.00 A low, spreading native deer-resistant shrub that is excellent as a ground cover and especially on steeper banks. The glossy green foliage turns a nice orange-red in fall. Grows 2’ tall but spreads out to 6’ wide.

Spiraea Spiraea japonica 'Goldmound' $ 25.00 This hybrid has pink flowers in late spring, but the real show is the golden foliage that it maintains throughout the growing season. It is a great foil for darker green foliage in a shrub border. It stays compact at 3’ tall and 4’ wide. We have these planted in several locations at the MSV.

Reblooming Lilac Syringa x Bloomerang ® $ 35.00 This hybrid was one of the first to be developed to rebloom later in the summer after an initial spring flowering. A classic lilac purple flower will bloom on a shrub that will get 5’ tall and wide.

Arrowwood Viburnum Viburnum dentatum 'Blue Muffin' ® $ 25.00 This native cultivar is more compact than other viburnums but still grows to 6’ tall and wide. It is a rugged plant that can grow in a variety of situations and produces white flowers in the spring and intense blue fruit in the fall. We have planted many of these near the Makerspace entrance.

Doublefile Viburnum Viburnum plicatum tomentosum 'Summer Snowflake' $ 25.00 White flowers blooms in May along the tops of horizontal branches creating a spectacular display. We use this as a hedge along the walk from the Glen Burnie House to the Carriage House. It grows to 6’ tall and wide.

Most shrubs are in 3-gallon pots Camelia Camellia sasanqua 'Yuletide' $ 35.00 This sasanqua camellia features red blooms in late fall, early winter. One of the more winter hardy camellias, it will still need some protection from winter winds in the Winchester area. Ours is planted right by the Glen Burnie House kitchen door.

Smooth Hydrangea Hydrangea arborescens $ 35.00 An improved cultivar of the native smooth hydrangea, this shrub features massive snowball white flowers. Prefers light shade but grows well in sun. Will get 5’ tall and wide.

Bigleaf Hydrangea Hydrangea macrophylla 'Endless Summer' ® PP15298 $ 35.00 This hydrangea produces large showy flowers (blue or pink, depending on your soil pH) on old growth and new, allowing it to flower through the summer. It likes some light shade and will get about 4–5’ tall and wide.

Oakleaf hydrangea Hydrangea quercifolia 'Alice' $ 25.00 This native cultivar produces large white cone-shaped flowers. The oak-shaped leaves turn a bright burgundy in the fall for added interest. It will get 5’ wide and tall. One is growing in the shade of the Pink Pavilion.

Mountain hydrangea Hydrangea serrata Tiny Tuff Stuff TM PP24842 $ 35.00 This Asian cultivar has smaller leaves than the traditional bigleaf hydrangea and produces a lacecap flower with a blue-lavender center with cream-colored outer edges. It stays quite small at only 2’ high and wide so is well suited for a smaller garden.

Trees Red Maple Acer rubrum Autumn Blaze ® 'Jeffersred' $ 125.00 This Red Maple hybrid is more drought tolerant than the species and is known for its brilliant orange-red fall foliage that lasts longer than other maples. Fig Ficus carica 'Hardy Chicago' $ 35.00 This fig cultivar is hardier than many but may freeze to the ground in severe winters in the Winchester area. It will produce figs on a small tree that grows 8–10’ tall and spreads as wide as 12’. Current plant is in 3-gallon pot, 2’ tall.

Black Gum Nyssa sylvatica 'Wildfire' $ 125.00 A tough native cultivar that produces brilliant red fall foliage. It can tolerate dry soils or wetter locations, including standing water. Excellent for rain gardens or a street tree. A slow growing tree which can reach 30+ feet and spreads to 20’ wide. We have these in numerous locations on the MSV campus.
