The Legacy of al-Andalus is a publicfoundation that belongs to theJunta de Andalucía (Andalusian
Government) headquartered in Granada. Itsboard of trustees includes the AndalusianGovernment Department of Tourism andCommerce, the Department of Education,Culture and Sports, and the Department ofGovernment.
The routes designed by the Foundationwere nominated “Cultural EuropeanItinerary” in 1997, and, together with the“Road of Santiago”, they are unique inSpain. These routes were declared a“Major Cultural Itinerary” by the Councilof Europe in 2004, which recognized itsimportance in the dissemination of thecultural patrimony that the foundation hasdeveloped over the years.

The foundation’s main goals are focusedon the appreciation and education aboutthe Hispano-Moslem civilization throughits cultural and artistic heritage, as well asthe historic and social relationship withthe Arab world and the Mediterraneanarea.
For more than 20 years we have beeninvolved in all aspects of tourismdevelopment, and it is our purpose tolaunch, together with our partner andcollaborator, Singularize Spain TravelGroup, this project that makes ofAndalusia a “Muslim-Friendly”destination.
Andalusia can be proud of being one ofEurope’s richest areas in the heritage ofal-Andalus, ready to be visited. Hence, theaim of our proposal is to offer thispatrimony together with the necessarycommodities, services and facilities tosuitably serve Muslim tourists.

The Pavilion of al-Andalus andScience is the headquarter of theAndalusian Public Foundation El
legado andalusi (The legacy of al-Andalus).Located at the Science Park of Granada, itis one of the most visited in Andalusia,and it offers the visitor a wide visionof the Arab scientific legacy and thediverse contributions of the civilizationof al-Andalus.
It is unique in Europe.
The themes have an educational natureand they cover the period of al-Andalus,the Arabo-Muslim scientific legacy and itscontribution to the world of science.
The Museum, furthermore, shows a fullseries of resources to enhance andpromote intercultural exchange,knowledge of al-Andalus and thecommunications among Andalusia, Spainand the Arab world, thus boostinginternational cooperation.

Andalusia, cradle and crossroads ofcivilizations throughout history, isalso the repository of a monumental
cultural legacy. The period of Arab-Muslimpresence in Andalusia gave rise to anextraordinary cultural exchange between Eastand West, whose marks are still visible inthis region's daily life. Its heritage, as thereflections of that splendor, can be admiredin monuments as singular as the Mosque ofCórdoba, the Giralda tower of Seville or theAlhambra of Granada, all universal examplesof the historic, architectural and artisticlegacy of al-Andalus, which has also beenpreserved in the region’s gastronomy, in itslandscape and in the hospitality that peoplefrom Andalusia grant their visitors.
Echoes from al-Andalus remain strongimprinted on the countryside and urbanlandscapes, and we invite the traveler to visitone of the regions where the weight of historycan be sensed through the beauty of artisticpatrimony, a past that opens its doors to ustoday.

The Routes of al-Andalus go through allthose ancient roads that were once tracedto connect the city of Granada and the restof the southern provinces in the IberianPeninsula (Spain and Portugal). When werefer to the “Routes of al-Andalus” we aretalking about history, culture, architectureand particularly the hospitality of peoplein present-day Andalusia, all of which areessential features resulting from theirmany historic legacies and the intenserelations among its peoples.
The more than 200 cities in the Routesalong the South of the Iberian Peninsulaare nurtured by the inspirations of history.All the activities, including adventuretourism, sports, equestrian activities,popular celebrations, crafts, gastronomy,nature, and many other possibilities willmake every traveler feel the experience asan unique and special one.
The global value of Andalusia made itpossible for UNESCO to declare CommonHeritage of Mankind status on places suchas Granada’s Alhambra and its Albayzínneighborhood, Cordoba’s historic quarter,the cathedral and Alcázar of Seville aswell as the cities of Úbeda and Baeza.These cities together comprise a “goldentriangle” where the patrimonial riches ofAndalusia have been concentrated overthe ages.
