Structure info:

• Cardiac muscle- • involuntary (we cannot control them)

are striated and found ONLY in heart.• Smooth muscle- • involuntary (we do not control them)

- found in digestive organs and blood vessel walls. Contract rhythmically without getting tired.

• Skeletal muscles- • voluntary (we control them) striped

and striated. Move bones, skeletal muscles work in pairs. One extends and one contracts.

• Muscles always pull; never push.• Tendons attach bones to muscles

Diseases/Conditions of the muscles:

• Muscular dystrophy, or MD, is an inherited muscle disease that causes muscle fibers to become incredibly susceptible to harm.

• Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. The pain associated with fibromyalgia often is described as a constant dull ache, typically arising from muscles.

FUN facts:

• The body has over 630 muscles, which make up almost half of its total weight.

• Eye muscles are one of the busiest muscles in your body: scientists believe they move more than 100,000 times a day.

• The largest muscle in your body is called the gluteus maximus, which is the muscle in your buttock.
