We have always dreaded playing a TimMurphy-coached team, because we knowthey are going to make first downs, scorepoints, and always be in a position to win thegame. His are the best double-wing teams Ihave seen since this type of offense took off.I highly recommend his book to anyone tryingto better understand the high-powereddouble-wing offense.

As far as “power offenses” go, Tim Murphy’s isas good as any I have seen. Year in and yearout, his teams overachieve, and they do soplaying some of the best teams in the country. This book is very easy to understand andMurphy’s philosophies on how to attackdefenses can help improve any coach’s game.
– Jim McElwainOffensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach

Tim Murphy is widely accepted as thepremiere double-wing coach in the country. This book should be a required text for anyfootball coach who wants to lead his programto the next level of the game.

Tecumseh High School (MI)
When looking for a solid offensive system toimplement with my team, I found the double-wing offense, but felt that something wasmissing—until I saw Murphy’s style in action. We emulated Murphy’s program from top tobottom and the results took our programfrom 0-31 to 10-2 practically overnight.

Preface
Football and life have countless correlations. In our program, trust and work ethic are atthe very core of what we teach. If we can teach our kids to be reliable, no matter whatthe situation (trust), and to give it everything they have on a continual basis (workethic), then we have won. Bob Ladouceur, head football coach at De La Salle HighSchool (CA), once said, “Football doesn’t just build character, it reveals it.” Our goal isthat after a young man leaves our program, his divulged character will be one he andeveryone can be proud of.
The double-wing offense helps us achieve this goal. It is an offensive system that’swhole is greater than the sum of its parts. It is the definition of synergy, which issynchronized energy. Each player has a role that is specific and important. The doublewing enables groups of young men to work together as a team to accomplish thingsmany may have thought impossible. The double wing has the greatest combination ofpower and deception you will ever find in an offense. At first glance, this offense maylook strange and to coaches with thin skin, may be tough to incorporate. The doublewing is not something seen on Sundays, but when run correctly, is a thing of beauty. This offense is a ball-control offense that moves the chains and produces very fewturnovers. At the same time, this system has a surprisingly large amount of big-playcomponents. The double wing is the holder of several offensive records and hasenabled our teams to average over 4,000 yards per season and almost 400 yards pergame over the past 11 seasons.
Coaches must remember, although this book provides 101 plays, it would be adisservice to run all of them in a single season. Plays should be chosen carefully.Personnel, experience, talent level, and opponents should be considered whendeciding which plays to implement in an upcoming season. Another plus is that thedouble wing has an answer for anything and everything the defense is doing to stop it.The bottom line is that players must be able to execute each play precisely andaggressively. If players have too many plays to practice and remember, theirperformance will suffer. It is also crucial to choose plays that complement each other.Putting defensive players in conflict is another beneficial component in the doublewing. Staying within the series is key in building a playbook as opposed to “grabbagging” several different plays without rhyme or reason.
