Synopsis FOR THE HOST – this outlines the suggested flow of the party.

The Oceanside Palace Hotel of Maui was hosting their nightly luau on Sunset Beach. Exciting Polynesian spirit filled the air as the guests were greeted with festive Hawaiian leis. Everybody mingled while enjoying delicious appetizers. The celebration kicked off with fun party games, but it became apparent that some guests didn’t get along and others were hiding scandalous secrets. The party forged on with a delicious Hawaiian dinner while the guests enjoyed a fun challenge. With stuffed bellies, the luau partygoers gossiped and laughed, and to everyone’s horror, a dead body was discovered! The guests rallied together and underwent a thorough investigation including a fiber analysis provided by the local police department. Taking short breaks to relieve the stress of the investigation, they engaged in more exciting party games. They took turns accusing the suspects they believed were guilty, and everyone came clean with their involvement in the crime. Backed into a corner, the murderer confessed! After a brave escape attempt by the killer, the guests enjoyed a delectable dessert and reflected on the evening’s exciting events! It was a luau that the guests will remember forever!

when they arrive to the hotel! Holi bursts with energy and hospitality and takes her job very seriously. Her enthusiasm has

been known to make children cry and animals flee the scene! Holi is the sister of the hotel’s main hula dancer, Poni Mulokeli.

seen with a bunch of friends wherever he goes. Optional to add a team of ~ 5-10 players to play along as

Sol’s friends.

This party is an entertaining and comical mystery where the players act the roles of hilarious personalities while sleuthing the intriguing story line. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way.

DÉCOR: Create a Luau ambiance with a Jimmy Buffet mix, reggae mix, or a steel drum band mix playing softly, Luau décor and any movie (on mute) about the beach / Hawaii (i.e. Lilo & Stitch, Gidget Goes Hawaiian, Point break, Blue Crush, etc.) if there is a television / monitor in the party room. Also, take a look at our Pinterest Page (MyMysteryParty) for some DIY options. Cocktails for adults (i.e. Mai Tais, Pina Coladas served in pineapple or coconut shells, etc.) and appetizers can be served, and a round one envelope should be handed to each guest. ACCUSATIONS: after you collect the mystery investigation sheets, allow the guests to one-by-one accuse who they believe the murderer is and how they did it. Instruct them to also tell the group their guess of the murderer’s motive. If you are having an awards ceremony using the awards certificates as discussed above – or you can go to any trophy, sporting goods, &/or party store and purchase award ribbons, trophies, plaques, etc. You can use this round as the final decision maker on the best actor/actress award – if it already wasn’t apparent during game play.

GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

You’ve been assigned a character, and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most awesome luau costume. You’ve been instructed to play your role. Now what?

The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the game, you will receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues provide everything you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to all clues in the game to get the whole picture of what has happened.


PURCHASED GAME

From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If

you are playing a ‘quirky tourist,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any manner you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. If you’re feeling more reserved, opt to allow others to approach you, or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.


OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS

Character S For some pre-party fun, contact

the following guests: Contact the guest playing Character S and say that you can’t believe he’s been in Maui for 3 weeks already and hasn’t attended the Oceanside Palace Hotel Luau on Sunset Beach. He should know you’re the star performer, but there’s no need for him to ask for an autograph, you’ll have a signed picture waiting for him in the hotel lobby when he checks out next week! (Contact info :___________________________) Contact the guest playing Character E and tell him you see he finally talked the concierge into giving him tickets to the Oceanside Palace Hotel Luau on Sunset Beach. He must have been persistent, as you’ve never seen the hotel management give away luau tickets before – they’re expensive! He must know how to ‘work the system.’ (Contact info :___________________________)

CHARACTER K ROUND ONE CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND

Talk to Character U about how she said you knew how to ‘work the system’ because you were given the luau tickets for free by the concierge of the hotel. If that is a reference to your lawsuit, you are offended.

Talk to Character P and say you know who they are, but you won’t say a word. They’re not the only ones hiding something.

Ask Character V why she hangs around the resort instead of her mansion in Maui.

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL You’re an FBI agent working two cases here:

Case #1: Character S is suspected of murdering her billionaire mother and then her sister with poison. Because there was no suspicion of murder, there was no toxicology analysis performed, and she had her lawyer put a stop to both autopsies. She has a niece who was unaware the autopsy was declined in both cases. Once you have enough evidence, your agency can exhume the bodies.

Case #2: Character B is a suspected con artist. Interview the others without acting suspicious and blowing your cover. You need more evidence.

You want people to believe that you are a recent lawsuit winner against Mickey D’s fast food hamburger chain. The story is that you burned your mouth on an overly-heated hamburger that you were served, and you are using your lawsuit winnings to travel. You need people to believe your cover as a donut artist.


ROUND TWO

CHARACTER K -ROUND TWO

PRE MURDER: Character G hasn’t tipped you all night. S/he is a con

artist and shouldn’t be trusted – and, s/he has never left you a tip so s/he needs to just die.

Tell Character P that the Hollywood paparazzi are on their way. ‘Sorry, not sorry!’

Tell Character Y that the management of the hotel is looking for a way to fire her – just FYI.

Ask Character B why she is estranged with her famous niece. She’ll have plenty of opportunities to explain her side to the Hollywood paparazzi when they arrive at the hotel. You called them ~8 hours ago.

POST MURDER: You probably touched the murder weapon, or a few just

like it, as you helped set up the luau this evening. It’s your job and can’t be avoided, unfortunately.

You saw the victim leave the luau area about 5-6 minutes prior to the time the body was discovered.

If Character T is not an honest person, why should you believe she simply ‘discovered’ the body? How do you know she is not the murderer?

Characters Q and W left the luau at the same time earlier. Character Q returned first.

There is one entrance/exit to the luau and it is a long, dark path. It leads to one restroom, and branches off on either side to an employee break room and a kitchen. Further down the path is how you return to the resort.

xxxxxxxxxx removed xxxxxx. Is this a reason to kill someone? I certainly think so, as I hit a

friend with my car once for not paying me back on a Super Bowl bet. However, I didn’t

do it this time!

Example Time Line The game can be shortened by excluding the optional activities, or lengthened by adding

more bonus games. 7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made (optional) and receive a refreshment / cocktail for adults.

The guests will view the guest instructions and character list while they wait for everybody to arrive.

The host should build in at least a 10 minute cushion for guests to arrive late. Hey, it happens.

7:10 PM: The host reads the guest instructions to the group. It is optional to have each guest introduce

their character in front of the group. Play the video game trailer on Your Mystery Party for your

game &/or read the game synopsis from Your Mystery Party to the group to give the premise.

7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out and the game begins. The guests mingle and

reveal the clues on their clue cards. It’s just like a normal party, but the guests remain in character

and gossip about each other’s characters. The motives & story lines will start to unveil.

7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played. Bonus activities keep the energy flowing and the guests

have a blast. They are optional, but highly suggested. The players must remain in character. 8:05 PM: Optional to serve dinner. Dinner can be sit down or buffet – or even as simple as a

pizza that’s delivered! You can also just serve appetizers/snacks during the party.

8:35 PM: The Round Two envelopes are handed out to the guests and pre-murder clues are discussed.

8:55 PM: The victim becomes the victim and the host passes out the investigation sheets to the players.

The guests interrogate each other to determine whodunit. The full story is in the player clue cards,

but the guests will have to be skilled at asking the right questions of each other, etc. 9:10 PM: The forensic analysis report is revealed and within ~5-10 minutes, everybody submits their

guess of whodunit.

9:20 PM: Optional accusation round – the guests can take turns accusing who they think did it,

and why. You’ll be surprised at how everybody’s inner actor will surface during this activity.

9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to

the guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each of the

guests, and the murderer will confess at the conclusion of the round. The murderer is notified in

their round three solution card that they are the murderer. They will not know or have any

advantage over anybody of knowing whodunit before this round. 9:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played.

10:10 PM: An optional award ceremony. My Mystery Party has award certificates of all kinds that you can

choose from in the Prop Emporium. The host can determine who receives the awards while the

bonus game is being played. Some awards are traditional and some are snarky but hilarious!

10:30 PM: Game over!
