Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I want to apply for a six months internship in your company from about end of August till about end of February.

My interest in fashion already raised in my childhood, when I started to draw and change clothes that I liked.

After my A-levels I absolved an internship at a Turkish designer‘s company in Istanbul and afterwards another one in a custom tailoring in Germany. It tur-ned out to fit my interests and expectations very well, that is why I applied to study fashion in Pforzheim. In the meanwhile I’m studying in the fourth semester and working at a women’s collection with the topic “future classics”. During my studies I was able to improve my drawing skills as well as pattern and converting.

I would be very pleased if I could deploy the skills and knowledge that I gained so far in this internship and also develop it further.

In the fourth semester we are supposed to create a women’s collection with the topic “future clas-sics” in pairs. My fellow student and me did some extensive research and decided to pick the subto-pic “fake and imitation”. Ever since, individual fulfillment is a part of the life. You ingest, because life is not possible without aliment. You dress up for reasons of protection and soci-ety. However that is known so far. Nowadays, it is about eating the healthiest food and wearing the best clothes. Individual fulfillment is not enough anymore- we are craving for self-optimi-zation. We want to bring on the best in us and impress the people of our surrounding with our appearance, our education or our skills. We want to be appreciated and honored, what is natural and human. To reach that, we work very hard in our working environment and our private life. For instance we go to the gym frequently to get the body that accords to the temporary beauty ideal. However, the fact that is even more important- we fake! Fake and imitation are the topic of this collection.

In terms of self-optimization, more and more people decide to undergo plastic surgery. Faked noses, breasts or hair are more and more aspired and we can suppose that this will rise in the fu-ture. If we do not want to be bothered by plastic surgery, we visit Dr. Photo-shop and fake this way. Or if we can’t afford brand products, we find imita-tions that get close to the original. To sum up, it is about the ambivalence of fake and original, as well as artificia-lity and naturalness.

3rd semester

“VIRTUAL HEROES”

Prince of Persia

In the third semester we were supposed to design a menswear collection with the topic “vir-tual heros”. I chose one of the world’s most popular video games, the “Prince of Persia”. The hero of this game is armed by a sword and fights for the good. He has got two basic characteristics. One thing is his heritage, the Oriental Persian Empire and the elegance that comes with it. The other point is his flexibility and his quickness. The concept of the collection is due to these fea-tures: chic and expressive, though very casual and cool. The famous college jacket gets wide sleeves, a wide collar and a voluminous corpus. The usual sporty jacket turned out to be a blouson that is up to the claim for a sporty-chic effect. Another outfit is repre-senting this balance through a capejacket with an oversized hood and two-layer sleeves.

In terms of the Persian his-tory, turbans are very cha-racteristic and fascinating. Wrinkles in trousers, sleeves or collars of the outfits are quotations of the wrinkles of the turban. The hoods and high banded collars in this collec-tion are due to the wrinkles, and they can be interpreted as a modern way of head-, or face-pieces.

Within the short project Structure- and Brand Analysis we were supposed to choose two opposed brands or fa-shion boutiques, to analyze them and combine them in a new collection. I did some research on Gareth Pugh and Anna Sui and named my new collection “Balance”. This name marks the balance between the stylistic elements of Pugh and the varieties of prints and colours of Sui. Mainly the stylistic elements of his current collection are quoted and composed in a new combination. The clo-thes get more wearable and adapted to the style of the American designer Anna Sui.

The rose is an important element of Sui. It can be seen as decoration in her stores, often as a print in her fashion and also her in-house perfume bottles are ad-orned with roses. You could see the rose as her trade-mark. How would the rose look like, if Pugh would de-sign her as a print for Sui? How could the rose turn from looking vintage-like to seem futuristic?That was the initial point for a novel rose print.

2nd semester

In the second semester we learned about the work “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” of Pierre-Ambroise-François Choderlos de Laclos. Our task was to choose a charac-ter, to analyze it and to create a man’s or woman’s outfit out of nettle. I dealt with the scheming and power-obsessed Mar-quise de Merteuil and let myself be in-spired by her in terms of the mood and the concept of the outfit. The construc-tion as top arose from the treatment of the material. The idea about the gloves however has its source in the marionette hands of the character.
