From the Principal

Dear Community of Munroe Elementary,

I hope everyone had a very good holiday and happy 2016! It is unbelievable

how fast this year is going by and we are starting our third quarter already. We

have had a fantastic first half and I know that the second half is going to be just

as great. We have a lot of things going on and May will be here faster than we

know.

January and February are very busy months. We have the fourth and fifth

grade Winter Olympics, Munroe’s Annual Cooking Contest and the Book Fair,

just to name a few activities. Third grade will be getting a visit from a dentist

about oral hygiene, we have spring pictures, and our Valentine’s Day Parties.

Please look on the website for dates and information as well as flyers coming

home.

There is no school on January 18 for Martin Luther King Day and on February

15 for Presidents’ Day. We will also have no school for students on February 12

for a teachers’ in-service day. Spring Break this year will be March 21-28.

Ask your child about Being Caught or Having a Shout Out… Two programs we

have at school to recognize students for making good choices, or being good

friends.

Please follow Munroe on Twitter @monachino64.

If you are going to be dropping off your child after 8:20 (when the busses are

gone), please drop them off in front of the building. We will be locking the side

door at 8:25. If you have any questions about this, please call the office.

Another reminder about recess – students will be going outside on the

playground during part of their lunch period unless the wind-chill temperature

is below 20 degrees, the playground is snow-covered, or it’s raining or snowing.

Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for cold weather. If you

child needs any outside winter clothing, please have them come to the office.

Also, if your child needs to remain inside due to health reasons, please send a

note to your child’s teacher indicating the day(s) he/she is not going out for

recess.

Please do not hesitate to call or stop by if any staff member or I can do anything

else to help your child be successful.

I hope that everyone had a great break. So glad that there was warm weather while the kids were home. I still was not ready for the snow to start. I am ready for the warmer temperatures to return and the second half of the year to get underway. There are so many great events in the next few months. The first event is COSI for the Third graders. COSI on Wheels will be at the school for the day. The kids will get to do some really cool science experiments. This a fun day for students, teachers, and volunteers. If you are interested in helping please let us know. At the end of the week, the Fourth and Fifth graders will participate in The Winter Olympics. These are games and races that they can compete in and have a great time. It makes for an exciting day for the students. Ms. Stevens does a great job getting the gym ready and planning the games. If you would like to help please let me know. We are still in need of a few helpers. On February 3rd, we will be kicking off our Butter Braids sale. This is a big fundraiser for our school. 40 percent of what we sell will go to our school. These are delicious pastries and cookies that are easy to make when you need a dessert or a treat with your coffee! This is a tradition at Munroe. Everyone always ask when they are going to be sold and are an easy sell. Just ask anyone that has had kids in our school! There are so many more great PTA sponsored events that are coming up in the coming months. Be sure to read through and come and see what is going on. I guarantee that the kids are going to love what we are doing! Hope to see everyone soon Kim Parks

Keep collecting those receipts!

Turn all eligible receipts in to

the school by February 1, 2016

Drop them off, or send them in with the kiddos!

I don’t always save my

Acme receipts. But

when I do, I send them

to Munroe Elementary!

Valentine’s Day Party!!!!!

COSI On Wheels Day at Munroe: Please Sign Up

Here’s a message from your VolunteerSpot organizer Mary Gutman & Holly Miktarian

Hi everyone! Thanks so much to those of you who have volunteered to help out all day! We have a

few more spots to fill – ideally, we’d like 20 people – so we have opened up sign ups to the

individual class sessions. The only catch is that you still need to attend the orientation at 7:45-

8:30am. You can attend the general assembly after that if you’d like, but it is not required.

Please take a look at new sessions and fill in where you can. You are welcome to sign up for

multiple sessions too.

If you haven’t visited VolunteerSpot before, type the link below into your browser.
