GOALS OF THE ISWMP (Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan)
I. To significantly extend resource recovery, including but not going beyond the creation of enabling environment and the development of markets for recyclables;
II. To build (awareness and capacity for) source separation as essential components of sustainable waste management;
III. To restructure and extend efficient and equitable collection of source-separated waste streams with the view of protection of public health and the environment; and
IV. To build new environmentally sound infrastructure and systems for safe disposal of residual waste and replacing current dumpsites which should be decommissioned

GOOD PRACTICES
Despite the dismal collection of solid waste in Nairobi,city, there are practices and activities of informal actors(CBOs, CBO-SACCOs and yard shop operators) and otherformal industrial actors on solid waste collection,recycling and waste reduction.
Practices and activities of these actor groups are viewed as innovations with the potential to change the way solid waste is handled.

Resource Allocation
There is no urgency to prioritize solid waste management in the city budgeting process.
Efficiency
Lack of efficient solid waste collection and disposal mechanisms
Public Apathy
There is insufficiency of concerted efforts to support public education on solid waste management issues
CHALLENGES
Open Dumpsite at Dandora dump site: Through Public Education on source separation of waste, the
situation can be reversed.

RELATIONSHIP TO CCAC Nairobi is one of the C40 cities
In this respect, various actors in the solid waste management space have adopted a variety of technologies to reduce short lived climate pollutants, including
Source Separation
Recycling
Marketing of the recycled products
Through the network, we expect to benefit from expertise of thedifferent actors in the network in terms of applicabletechnologies and best practices in reducing the short livedclimate pollutants

CONCLUSION
More resources should be allocated to Solid Waste Management
There should be concerted effort towards public education asfar as SWM issues are concerned
Efficient collection, reduction and disposal mechanisms shouldbe implemented
The C40 Network is therefore a platform for City manager toharness the necessary expertise and technical backstopping inreducing Climate Pollutants
