MST2000 Loop PoweredMultivariable SMARTFLOW Transmitter
Brandt Instruments’ MST2000 Series Loop Powered
Multivariable SMARTFLOW™ Transmitter sets new
standards for draft range Differential Pressure / Mass Flow
measurement of Air and Gas Flows. Combining Brandt’s
twenty plus years of experience in industrial process control
with state of the art digital signal processing technology, the
MST2000 is the most versatile, reliable, cost-effective and
simplest to operate loop powered multivariable transmitter
in the industry.
The MST2000 is a HART®
compatible, loop powered (two
wire ) device available in either a compact, NEMA 1 config-
uration for wall or panel mounting or a rugged fiberglass
NEMA 4X enclosure for hostile environments. With a turn-
down capability of 10:1 the available draft ranges can be
turned as low as 0.01 Inches W.C. full scale. Fully program-
mable and user friendly, the MST2000 is capable of produc-
ing and displaying signals for Differential Pressure (Inches
of Water Column) or for Flow (ACFM, SCFM, Lb/Hr).
Optional isolated 4-20 mA inputs are available for Absolute
Pressure, External Temperature and a second Differential
Pressure Transmitter. A HART®
Communications Module
and Digital I/O Module are also available. All the optional
modules can be installed in the field by the end user.
MST2000 Standard Features
High Performance at Ultra Low Spans: Standard spans from0.10 to 50 Inches Water Column are available (custom andcompound ranges are also possible) with a total accuracy of0.15% of Span.
Thermal Compensated Output: Each MST2000 has anonboard temperature sensor and is thermally compensated atthe factory to eliminate thermal effects.
Password Protection: The MST2000 provides for passwordsecurity so that modifications to program variables can only bemade by authorized personnel.
Adjustable Damping: The standard time constant is 500 mSecbut is user programmable from 0.5 to 5 seconds in 0.5 secondintervals.
LCD Display and Integral Keypad: A large, high contrast, easy to read LCD display and integral keypad allow the user toeffortlessly program the MST2000 for optimal process condi-tions.
Programmable Alarms: User selectable transmitter fault con-ditions can be programmed to set the 4-20 mA output to a low3.9 mA or high 21.0 mA state. User can also select HI/LO pro-cess conditions to control the optional digital outputs.
RTD Input: A non-Isolated 4 wire RTD input connection is sup-plied for external temperature input.
Integral Test Jack: Allows the user to monitor the mA output ofthe MST2000 without disconnecting the loop.
Programmable Constants: When external temperature andabsolute pressure signals are unavailable, these variables canbe programmed in as constants, allowing the end user to selectan output signal which will represent ACFM, SCFM or Lb/Hr.Without these constants, or external inputs, only the D.P. will bea true signal.
MST2000 Isolated Input Modules
The MST2000 can be optionally configured with up to
three (3) Isolated 4-20 mA input modules for true mass
flow measurement. The input range for each input mod-
ule is software rangeable by the end user. Any combina-
tion of the three can be mounted at the factory or field
mounted by the user to upgrade process capabilities.
Temperature Input Option: Accepts a 4-20 mA input froman external temperature transmitter.
Absolute Pressure Input Option: Accepts a 4-20 mA inputfrom an external absolute pressure transmitter. An optionalintegral absolute pressure transmitter can be mounted in theMST2400 enclosure.
External Differential Pressure Input Option: Accepts a4-20 mA input from an external differential pressure transmit-ter. A second differential input can be used to extend theavailable range to provide up to 2% flow rate accuracy over a25:1 flow range.
MST2000 Digital I/O Module
The MST2000 can be optionally configured with (1) one
digital input and (2) two digital outputs. This option is ca-
pable of either being installed at the factory or in the field.
Digital Input: Accepts external signal to trigger events, suchas a blowdown sequence. The MST2000 will hold the lastoutput signal throughout the duration of the event.
Digital Outputs: For control of external devices (AutoZeroValve, High Pressure Blowdown Systems, Alarm Circuits,etc.).
HART® Communications Module
An optional HART®
Communication Module can be in-
stalled to provide industry standard HART®
access to the
MST2000. This option can be installed at the factory or in
the field.

MST2000 Multivariable Versatility
The MST2000’s multivariable capabilities provide the
necessary versatility required to satisfy today’s de-
manding industrial process applications. With program-
mable constants, input/output options and
communication features the MST2000 will concurrently
measure and/or apply the numerous process variables
for a true mass flow measurement.
The MST2000’s configuration is user friendly and is ac-
complished through the integral keypad (no external
software or hardware is required). Optional input, digital
I/O and communication modules can be installed at the
factory or in the field as required.
